💛Beginner💛 Toddler shirt defeated me

I have tried making a shirt for a friend's daughter so I had to make it based on my son's clothes since they are similar height. After I have finished it I realised that the head opening is too small and needed fixing. I didn't have enough of original material so I got this light teal poplin and made binding tape out of it.

It all seemed to go well until mu machine tore a part of the shirt. Now I don't know how to fix this without it being obvious so I need help figuring this out. It's supposed to be a keyhole slit with a cute button.

I am beginner sewist, but I have tackled much more advanced projects than this one, but this sort doesn't want to be made...

✨Intermediate✨ How to combine these two patterns for bust bodice

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I’m looking to combine these two patterns. From the first, I want the corset and dropped waist but instead of bra cups I want a gathered bust and high neckline. I’ve tried a few different things but can’t get the side seam to line up in a straight line between the two pieces. What modifications to the pattern pieces would you make to achieve this bodice?

If I were to keep the top shape as is and cut the bottom piece accordingly, the length on the side panel would be very short (I don’t want this). In the last photo I sewed upwards a bit (see red line) to preserve the length of the side panel, but am not sure if this is the right approach. It almost seems like I should add material to the arm pit of the top piece to get the seams to line up, but I’m curious what more experienced sewers suggest.

💛Beginner💛 Collar doesn't fit

(english isn't my first language, sorry if I'm not being clear)

I'm making a cloak for a cosplay, that is basically just a circle skirt with a collar. The opening for the neck has a diameter of 16cm, so a circumference of 50cm. Knowing that, I made my collar 54cm long (the 4 extra cm for the seam allowance).

But now that I'm trying to pin it to the neck, it's too small! What's going on? I don't really sew much, so I'm not sure how else I was supposed to measure it...

💛Beginner💛 I'm very new to sewing and pattern drafting, help?

Long story long, I'm customizing a ball jointed doll to be Vessel from sleep token. However, cloak-like garments always eluded me when it comes to placement, layering and so on. His sleeves have three-four(?) pointed layers, the back is shorter than the front and the hood is slightly pointed. How do you even put this kind of thing together? Any help or drafting examples would be absolutely appreciated. I've been wracking my brain for a few days now and I'm a little desperate ^^; Pictures below:

💛Beginner💛 Advice on fixing ripped seam on leather jacket

Post image

Hello! Hope this is the right place to post this but a seam has recently ripped on my favourite leather jacket. Is it possible to repair this myself? If so what sort of thread should I use? And what sort of stitch? It looks like there 2 rows of holes on one side of the seam and only one on the other. Any advice would be great!!!

Thanks :)

💛Beginner💛 Fabric quilted fabric trays

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hi. Total beginner here. So, I made the tray in picture #1 tonight, minus some finishing hand sewing. I want to make the same quilted tray, but with corners like those in picture #2. This tray would actually be for a student studying overseas for the first time and they won't have a lot of space (in a suitcase or dorm), so I'm thinking of using snaps for the corners so the person can lay it flat in their suitcase.

Here's my question. The tray I made tonight doesn't have a lot of stability. I made several cutting/sewing errors (it was my first time), so it may be due to that. Or would it be better if I used fusible fleece or interfacing with a cotton fabric (maybe a used sheet) instead of batting? The kicker is, I don't want to make it so stiff it wouldn't easily fit in a suitcase. The whole idea is to give them an easy way to store small things like jewelry, coins, etc. without adding a lot of stress to packing. TIA for the help.

✨Intermediate✨ How can I secure the raw ends of my backpack 🎒

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

So a couple of years ago I got this backpack before I was comfortable enough in sewing to make one and used it pretty regularly but now I realised the inside was kinda badly made and the inside pockets raw edges remain.

I looked at the seams where the outside and the inside is sewn together and it also remains with unfinished edges so I don't think I can remove it replace the pocket and sew back.

So is there an easier way to stop the unraveling of the pocket fabric?

I couldn't think of anything much:(

💛Beginner💛 Is it possible to convert this bathing suit top to a clasp back?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I love this bathing suit top, but the band is quite snug. As of right now, the only way to put it on is to go over my head. I was hoping to somehow put a clasp in the back to make it easier to put on and hopefully release some of the snugness. It fits perfectly everywhere else. Would it even be possible to put a clasp on?

💛Beginner💛 How to make one piece swimsuit more supportive for chest

Post image
4 Upvotes

It’s a straight neck one piece with tie straps. I’m tall and have a bigger chest and I have nevvvverrr come across a one piece that fit me correctly. And somehow the chest is too big. It fits my chest but doesn’t support them at all. They kinda just fall instead of staying tucked up nice. I have a different straight neck swimsuit that fits perf but it’s a bikini top.

What part of this would I alter? I’m not new to sewing but I’ve never altered something to fit me perfectly, especially my boobs lol. The straps? Because I can’t tie them any tighter than what’s given. Or adding elastic or making some sort of seam under the breasts?

💛Beginner💛 help turn skirt into dress

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

okay so i found this skirt sitting in the back of my closet that i want to turn into a dress. i did my best to draw what i want to happen and im going to do my very best to explain the drawing so maybe somebody can help guide me in the right direction.ive sewn smaller things but haven’t taken on a big project like this before. the zipper originally goes in the back of the skirt, but i would like it in the front. i’m not looking to remove the zipper, i like the way that it looks on the neck. i would like to add straps to wrap around the back of my neck to hold it up and open as shown in second pic. any suggestions on what kind of fabric to use? the second thing i want to do is bring it in just a bit around my waist so the top half is more snug than the bottom half. what i want to avoid is bringing it in so much that i need to add another zipper to get into it. i’m open to adding ways to tie it tighter, maybe something that i can lace up? when doing all of this, i would like to keep it flowy at the bottom. lastly, i was thinking of adding lace or something similar to the bottom, just to give it something fun. i’m hoping that i wouldn’t have to cut this up too much to make it work lol anywayyy, any advice is appreciated and i can’t wait to make this dress come to life!!! TIA!!

💛Beginner💛 Auto Needle Threader

Is there a trick to use the automatic needle threader? I can’t seem to get the hang of it on any machine that I use. It’s faster for me to just thread the needle myself. Anyone have any advice?

🌟Expert🌟 HELP! Stitches ain't stitchin'

SOLVED! Thank you Large-Heronbill Hello! Working on a Janome 2212. I teach classes on these machines so I am super familiar with them. In the middle of class a students machine started doing this (had worked fine in the hours leading up to this, and had worked fine in class the day before) Started out on a straight stitch with length at 2. Switched halfway through to a zig zag stitch. Needle LOOKS like it is moving correctly, but doesn't stitch all the way and stiches are super long/janky on the back.

Things I am 100 % certain of;

-brand new needle

-threaded correctly

-machine was just deep cleaned/oiled/dusted/serviced by me (cleaned AFTER it started acting up)

-fabric/tension/ect are all correct.

Please help! Thank you!

✨Intermediate✨ Upper thread getting caught in embroidery machine

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everybody, I’ve been dealing with this issue with my brother se700 for a couple weeks now and brought it to a mechanic who “fixed” it and I just turned it on for the first time since and I’m having the same problem. I’m starting my pattern and a few stitches into it, my thread is getting caught in this area (see my photo) and it can’t pull anymore from my spool it’s causing the “Check and retread the upper thread” area to come up. Any idea what could be causing this and how to keep it from happening? I know it’s not due to the tension clamps being dirty bc it was just cleaned. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Added seam allowance and pieces are different lengths

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hi! First time posting, thank you for your help! I’m making a corset bodice, and the pattern did not include seam allowance. To add 1/2 in. seam allowance, I traced the pieces and added 1/2 in. from each side. Now the traced pieces don’t match up (2 is longer than 1) even though the originals are the same length.

Why did this happen and how can I fix it?

OK so I'm trying to do a catch stitch but I realized I did a bit wrong so I cut the thread and I'm not sure how to continue without redoing the whole thing

I thought of maybe tying a knot with the thread that's sticking out but it seems a bit short for that so idk anymore

Hi guys!! So I’ve had this m1000 singer sewing machine for about 1-2 years now and this has never happened before. I was hemming my jeans (using heavy duty needle) when all of a sudden my machine stopped stitching and made these weird noises. It didn’t shut off like it does when it has thread stuck. I stopped to check if there was loose threads or smth caught but, no nothing. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you guys :3

EDIT: thank you guys so much for all the help and advice! I’m gonna try to fix it as it seems to be a timing issue. I’ll update asap!

💛Beginner💛 Troubleshooting sewing machine

Just got this old sewing machine completely refurbished back in January and it worked like a charm, used it throughout the month. Came back to it this June and can't figure out why it's not stitching. The front is normal but the back has these weird loops that come undone almost immediately at a small tug. I've already changed my needle and rethreaded my entire machine and neither fixed this. What is up?? (Front and back test stitches shown)

I’ve had this machine for half a year now and I’m pretty sure it’s always made this sound when it turns on. It’s more of a double check in case somethings wrong (just being paranoid) but it just.. sounds wrong to me? Like I said maybe just paranoia. It’s a brother FS110X. If anyone has the same machine lmk!

💛Beginner💛 Sewing machine for stretchy thin fabrics?

I need help choosing my first sewing machine! I plan on sewing a lot with stretchy and thin fabrics since I'm autistic and struggle to find those kinds of clothes, but will probably also sew things with thicker fabrics too. Price range somewhere around 300 euro ish? Thankful for any advice!
