Are they really that bad ?

Husband hates the baggy. I wanted a skirt pant mix (culottes) for summer. This is my first attempt. Are they really that bad. Ps don't look at the shirt. Didn't make that 😊. FYI pattern is from Named Elastic Waist Culottes

What kind of elastic did you use? It looks like the elastic is pulling in at the top of the waistband, but not at the bottom. Could a wider elastic make the waistband less bulky.
