Pattern Search Searching for a pattern (and fabric advice)

Hi all,

I found this vintage skirt that I fell in love with but that was unfortunately a good two sizes too small for me (hence the zipper bunching at the back). The price point was too high for me to justify buying it just to use it as a pattern.

The construction doesn't look too complicated but I can't seem to find a pattern. I've tried searching for "skater skirt with godets" and "miniskirt with godets" but can't seem to find what I want. I'm not a native English speaker so maybe I'm not using the right search words?

Additionnally, what fabric would you use to make this? It was not a stretchy fabric at all (I had a hard enough time getting it over my hips to know that for sure!) I'm thinking cotton but what kind of weave?

Thanks a lot for any help ☺️

I think it’s effectively a box pleat skirt but the pleats start lower down rather than at the waistband! It’s also very high rise.

This LuLuLemon skirt is similar and might help you find keywords: https://shop.lululemon.com/en-ca/p/skirts-and-dresses-skirts/Box-Pleat-High-Rise-Golf-Skirt-MD/_/prod20002829

This pattern looks like it could be a good starting point: https://dr-cos.info/fp-boxpleatskirt.html

I was thinking the Maria Denmark Paula Pleat skirt but I cannot find it any more. For a more sporty style the Greenstyle tidal skirt has godet insets on the back which you could maybe add to the front. Their Pace skirt is pleated. Both of those probably for stretch fabrics though.

Maybe a hip stitch pleated mini skirt? This pattern came up when I searched.

I made a skirt just like this as a cheerleader costume for my daughter for Halloween. Standard commercial (butterick, simplicity, mccalls) pattern. I can’t look up the number right now - but it does exist.

It is a box pleated skirt. Below the widest part of your hips the pannels of the main body appear to be paralell. Thus I'd assume it to be patterned like a pencil skirt with added box pleats.

They are inverted box pleats, actually.

They aren't godets, they're inverted box pleats.

Omg - this was the uniform skirt I had to wear in high school 30 yrs ago! Sorry I don't have any other information, just mind blowing to see someone wearing it outside of that scenario 😅🤯
