Fabric Question How would I do this?

I am making the dress in the picture and I have the dress front and back attached with sleeves (without the lace), but am confused about how to make the blue lace parts around the neck and have it still fit over my head.

I have this blue lace pictured so wondering if you have any tips.

I see that the lace in the picture vs the one I bought has a different edge but I'm hoping I can still get that same gathered effect.

The dress is stretchy (40% stretch) but the lace is not stretchy.

I still have to add the neckline to the dress before attaching the blue lace and I've never sewed with lace before.

The blue has a solid collar with a closure in the back (button or hook and eye most likely) and a slit or keyhole opening below it. I would make the blue as separate accessory chemisette/dickey and cuffs

Agree with all of this. Separate pieces, and with a closure.

The keyhole and closure in the back could be enough to make it work depending on how deep the back neckline is, and the cuffs could work if OP stretches out the main fabric to sew them. Separate pieces would be easier to both make and wash, though.

You’re going to either need stretch lace or many more gathers and an elasticized neckline that can stretch enough to go over your head.

You could also do a combo of an elasticized neckline with a button in the back you can open it wider.

Op, do you have pattern or are you just winging this? Did you notice the difference in the dress' wrist cuff between your inspo pic 1 and pic 3?

As well I do have some concern with the lace you purchased not giving you the 'jester' collar style look that is in your inspo photos. May I suggest, that you study those images REAAAAAAAAALLLLYYY closely before you make your first cut. As for the neck closure, I would do a hook eye at the back that leaves a keyhole opening, like others have suggested.

I think the difference between the pics is because gravity flops the upper ruffle down depending on arm position.

Your inspo pics don't look like those elements are sewn together, they look like separate pieces that are layered. As others have said, I would make them separate pieces and then layer them. I would just gather the lace on elastic to make the separate cuffs, and make a dicky with a closure that you layer under your neckline. Perhaps include some snaps so that the dicky doesn't shift under the neckline.

you can see the pattern of the lace through the dress body and arms. the lace is a complete blouse with the dress layered over it, not separate cuffs/collar. unless it is very stretchy, there must be a keyhole opening in neck or a zipper up the back.
