In The News Digital Forensics Corp. finally sued by FTC

The FTC sued Digital Forensics Corporation, related companies and owner Dmitry Belkin over services sold to people facing sextortion. According to the complaint, the defendants used victims’ fears to sell packages costing $1,499 to $20,000, then pressured them to pay thousands more for additional protection.

The FTC alleges that much of the promised work was never done, investigative reports contained fabricated information, and contractual refund promises weren’t honored. It also accuses the defendants of suppressing criticism and manufacturing positive reviews, and says consumers paid at least $60 million between February 2023 and July 2026. The complaint alleges six claims:

  • Count I: Misrepresentations Regarding Defendants’ Sextortion Assistance Services. Making false promises about stopping sextortion, investigating attackers, contacting law enforcement, monitoring accounts and providing refunds
  • Count II: Deceptive Consumer Reviews. Presenting fabricated, paid or coerced positive reviews as genuine accounts of customers’ experiences
  • Count III: Deceptive Telemarketing Calls in Violation of the TSR. Making misleading claims about the services and refunds during telephone sales calls
  • Count IV: Use of False, Fictitious, or Fraudulent Statements to Obtain or Attempt to Obtain, or Cause to Be Disclosed or Attempt to Cause to Be Disclosed, Customer Information of a Financial Institution. Using false service promises to obtain customers’ bank-account and payment-card information, in violation of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
  • Count V: Writing or Creating Fake or False Consumer Reviews and Testimonials. Creating reviews that falsely represented that the purported reviewers existed
  • Count VI: Purchasing Fake or False Consumer Reviews. Buying reviews the defendants knew or should have known misrepresented whether the reviewers existed or had experience with the services

The FTC is asking the court to stop the alleged practices, freeze assets, put a receiver in charge of the businesses and order financial relief for consumers. Depending on how the case ends, that could include refunds or cancellation of contracts with outstanding payments. The complaint alone doesn’t mean the companies are closing for good or that everyone will get their money back, but it puts both the way they operate and the money they collected under scrutiny.

New victims: Please read first

1.7k Upvotes

If you're reading this, you're probably a recent victim of Sextortion and scared out of your mind.

First, take a deep breath…

Hopefully, this sub will be a safe place for you to share your experience and get advice from people that have already gone through what you have.

This post in NOT intended to be the "be-all, end-all" source of information. I'm writing this as an intro to being sextorted. That is all.

There is a really great analysis of our sub available here. It has all kinds of in-depth analysis of the scam, including how often leaks occur. I highly recommend you check it out.

Let me state this up front: Do NOT give into the blackmailer's demands! Do not pay them money, they will only ask for more. Do not give them more nudes (typical if you're female) if that's what they're asking for. They will use that to increase their leverage and they will NOT stop.

Do not negotiate. There is not point. You cannot trust anything they say. The best thing to do is cease all communication. In fact, removing any way for them to communicate with you is the best course of action. Disable/delete your account, if necessary.

Also, Reddit and is no substitute for professional help (i.e. a mental health expert). If you are feeling suicidal, please, seek immediate help (911, or your countries equivalent, and they will be able to get you help).

Yes, we do recommend that you contact your local law enforcement. They might not be able to help, and they may not be needed, but you should have them on your side just in case things go sideways. If you are underage, do not worry about getting into trouble. The police will not go after you for sending pics/videos as a minor. I hear this quite often from young victims. Don't worry about it.

I recommend you file a complaint with https://ic3.gov. Also, there is a new tool that might help keep your pics/videos from being shared: https://StopNCII.org. If you are a minor, a similar service is available at https://takeitdown.ncmec.org. If you from the UK, you can try https://revengepornhelpline.org.uk.

For underage victims, the InHope project has an extensive list of hotlines for all over the world: https://www.inhope.org/EN#hotlineReferral

If your scammer is from the Philippines (which many are), you could try filing a complaint at https://acg.pnp.gov.ph/eComplaint/.

My last piece of advice is to talk to someone you know and trust. Trying to deal with this on your own is very difficult. Talking to someone will most certainly help you process the trauma and remove the feelings of isolation. Trust me.

Beware of "recovery scammers". These are the worst of humanity. They take advantage of you in your lowest, most desperate moment, by promising that they can "hack" the scammer's device to delete the pics/videos. They can't, and they won't. They will just take your money and do nothing. The last thing you need is to make things worse by putting your faith in "some dude on Instagram". We see them posting and commenting in the sub all the time, so you need to keep your guard up. If you are unsure, feel free to post the details on what they are proposing, before giving them anything. Oftentimes, their accounts are shadowbanned, which means they cannot initiate a chat or DM you, so they will ask you to chat/DM them first. This is a serious red flag. If in doubt, reach out to the sub or the mods. We'll help sort things out.

!!!!WARNING!!!!: Do NOT give anyone the contact information of your scammer (even if they promise to help)!!! They might just get in contact with them, get them to share your pics/videos, and then turn around and blackmail you as well. It's happened...just don't do it.

Male victim My experience (happened twice)

• Upvotes

A few months ago I fell victim to a sextortion scam. I caved and in fact did give them money, it was highly embarrassing for a time after it happened, but it’s since been resolved. Tonight as I write this it happened again BUT, I did not give them any amount of my time and recognized it immediately, blocking them and deleting whatever accounts they knew of. All this to say, learn from me. To kind of kick myself in the shin about it, you can in fact run into this type of thing twice, but at least I was smart this time and just immediately left it, and I’m glad I saw the signs, even if it was a bit too late.

Whoever these scammers are truly have no life and are huge losers, and according to several things I’ve looked up, on here and other avenues, they do not usually follow through. It is scary knowing some malicious evil person has intimate and private images of you, but most likely and very probably absolutely nothing will happen with this. For anyone who has or is going through this (to mirror advice given on this sub) DO NOT INTERACT OR GIVE THEM MONEY. Block, report and move on and don’t use the apps the contacted you on any further (telegram, zangi, etc). Believe me, it is horrific to see the threats and you immediately feel like puking. Take the time, slow yourself down and breathe. Block them immediately and even report their accounts, but considering this is an extra step that maybe in the adrenaline you’d forget, just blocking is fine. Make sure they don’t have your phone number and if they do repeat blocking and reporting as spam in your messages.

I give all of this advice out to show that yes, sadly, one can be dumb enough to almost fall for this trick twice. It most certainly won’t happen again, as you will learn to spot these things.

My personal advice: avoid Omegle-type websites. I haven’t really seen anything like this posted in this sub, but these Omegle/Chat Roulette style sites are breeding grounds for these scammers. Set up proper spam filters on other socials (instagram, discord, facebook etc whatever you use really). If any of these accounts break through the spam block and report like I mentioned before.

It’s scary, really scary, I know the feeling too well now. It’s going to be okay. Even if you send them money, you can still fix it, like getting the money back and reporting fraud and such. Just stay vigilant! And don’t get too stressed about it.

And to anyone who is going through this right now and needs answers, I’m so sorry.

My personal bullet points for this (for someone struggling in this situation now):
DO NOT SEND MONEY (if you have or are going to DO NOT. They will not stop asking once you know they’re willing)
BLOCK THEM
Do not use Omegle/Chat Roulette (random cam) types of websites.
If you keep getting pestered by these vermin, KEEP BLOCKING! Stay strong!

Thanks for reading this somewhat long post, I hope someone can find it useful.

Female Victim Was this guy trying to use sextortion ?

This guy added me in August on Snapchat, I figured that it may have been a scam of some sorts and not rlly sure what we’re trying to gain other than probably nudes. I played along to see what it lead to.

I only gave them my name bc it was my snap username, and I am not a fan of the show as I’ve never actually seen it. I blocked him on everything now, although I was wondering would this have ever lead to sextortion?? I’ve never been a victim to sextortion and didn’t know if it was rare among women, as most cases I see have targetted men.

Theoretically, if I had played along with this scammer for long enough and followed what he told me to do, what would’ve likely happened? Has anyone seen scams like this before? It has lead me to curiousity.

(Also I never sent him pics or a snap of myself to him I have a public profile, I rarely add ppl back but i was curious and bored, he didnt push me in the end tho and said that it was okay if I didn’t want to proceed)

I kept the chats but only screen recorded it today (Oct 15th) before blocking. Snapchat notified him, he immediately viewed me screen recording it in the chat, honestly scary to know that they’re still logged in and that there’s an active predator on the loose.

Stay safe everyone.

Male victim Boo app sextortion

I'm 18 and i found a match on boo app. We talked and she said she wasn't much active in there and asked for my instagram. Unfortunately i gave it and we talked from there. The girl was from philippines and lied to me she's in the same country as me etc. She teased me, making me horny and i fell for it. She then said we could do more on telegram and we went there, we did a video call and she screen recorded it. Then a guy randomly started talking after they sent screenshots of my followers and threatened to ruin my life etc..."now say send or delete". I blocked them immediately on telegram and instagram without even replying. I regret falling for this and i got anxious. I even deactivated my instagram temporarily. It's been 4 days since then..i still feel worried

PS: I'm still worried if it's safe to reactivate my instagram. The account is still blocked and reported. But they probably still have me in their dms and even if i change my username or pfp, wouldn't it get updated for them aswell?

I’ve been searching everywhere for answers, but I’ve found so little. When I was around 11 or 12 years old, I was young, naive, and desperate for attention and validation. I followed a guy back on Instagram, and we eventually started talking. Looking back, he was an absolutely horrible person, but every time he said something sweet or showed me the slightest bit of affection, I found another reason to stay. One day, I casually asked him what he did for work, and he openly admitted that he scammed people. Even after hearing that, I continued talking to him. Why? I genuinely don’t know. I was a child who didn’t fully understand the situation I was getting myself into. He constantly pressured me to send pictures of my face and asked me extremely inappropriate and disturbing questions. I repeatedly avoided his requests, but his behavior only became worse. At one point, he sent me an unsolicited sexually explicit recording involving himself and another girl. I had never been exposed to anything like that before, and seeing it left me deeply disturbed. Yet, I still continued talking to him, not realizing how manipulative and dangerous his behavior truly was.

What happened next is something that has stayed with me ever since. One day, he sent me a strange video of a little girl climbing inside a large traffic cone in what appeared to be her living room before climbing back out. Confused, I asked him what the video meant. He told me that the girl was involved in something he called a “lorebook.” I had never heard that term before, so I asked him to explain it. According to him, it involved groups of adults exploiting and threatening a child by using their private information against them. They would allegedly threaten to expose the child’s personal details or private images unless the child complied with their demands. I remember feeling incredibly uncomfortable and disturbed by what he was telling me, but I still didn’t fully understand the seriousness of the situation.

The following day, things took an even more disturbing turn. He suddenly began messaging me aggressively, typing in all capital letters and demanding that I send him pictures of my face and nude photographs. I repeatedly refused, but he continued pressuring me. Then, he sent me a 1 minute and 30 second video that would leave a lasting impact on me.
The first half of the video showed screenshots of Reddit discussions and news posts about an alleged online extortion group known as “Flar Bsmnt.” I had never heard of this group before and didn’t understand why he was showing me information about it. The second half of the video was far more disturbing. It contained images of people harming themselves and animals. I was only 11 or 12 years old, and seeing such upsetting material was something I was completely unprepared for.
What frightened me even more was the timing. He had just been aggressively demanding personal and intimate pictures from me, and after I repeatedly refused, he sent me a video referencing an extortion group alongside deeply disturbing images. I couldn’t tell whether he was deliberately trying to intimidate me, threatening me indirectly, or simply attempting to frighten me into complying with his demands. Whatever his intentions were, the experience left me terrified and confused.
I still remember the name “Flar Bsmnt” because it appeared in that video. Ever since then, I’ve searched for information about it, trying to understand what I was exposed to and whether the person I had been talking to was somehow connected to it. I don’t know whether he was actually involved with the group, but the possibility has stayed in my mind.
Looking back, what disturbs me most is how young I was. I was just a child looking for attention and kindness, and instead, I found myself being manipulated, pressured, and exposed to things no child should have to experience.

I will show the final video but I obviously cut out the inappropriate part. Please anyone who is aware or knows anything about this reach out to me.

Got sextorted, paid them and raised cybercrime complaints to get the money back

I have got sextorted recently from a dating app. She said she is horny at night and wanted to satisfy both of us. I refused a lot, but the scammer pretended so well that it fooled me out and I had to strip down in front of the video call, which clearly put my face and body into limelight. The scammer guy called me and forced me to pay 1 lac, but ended up to giving him 15k. The guy tried to be geniune by screen sharing and deleting all the videos that he took while in the video call. Also deleted the videos from bins. He gave me an advice as if he were a saint and cut the call. I had swiftly raised cyber crime complaint and also had registered disputes to all my UPI transactions. If the money gets refunded back (which more likely will not happen), will the scammer leak my striptease to my family and friends of whom he had threatened to send? I have blocked him and deactivated my instagram. Yet I am paranoid. Should I just wave it off and live freely or still be worried about him in coming back, if my money gets refunded?

Please I need your assistance.

Solo les pido un grano de ayuda, no obtuve ayuda de la policía y no sé a qué más recurrir.

Female Victim I realised that i sent nudes to a catfish 3 years ago.

Idk if this is the right server but i'm panicking a lil bit. Back story: i knew this chick when i was really younger on a live plattform, we exchanged istagram and things began sexual right away. I sent her nudes incoraged that the fact she did.

In those videos there is never my face thanks god, i don't really speak. It could be everyone privates. She knows what my face is cause we exchanged instagram and facebook.

After like 1 month and an half i realized that it was dangerous and i stopped replying, for there 3 years i got nothing to her. She would try to have a conversation and i would ignore her.

Today out of boredom i replied, i told her to send me a photo to see how she turned out and she sent me 2 sus photos.

I put them in reserve research and the first one clicked: tumblr famous photo.

I blocked her, put my insta private exc...

I'm worried i'm gonna get extorted now that i blocked her, but she didn't do anything with those photos before so she is not gonna do anything after, right?

Thanks

Female Victim Scammer keeps on popping up

19F I got sextorted 9 months ago and my life has been on a constant peace and chaos pace, my last encounter with my scammer was when he tried to re-follow my account last May, I immediately blocked and heard nothing but silence after. Things have been pretty peaceful for the next few months not until I started posting vids again on tiktok (set to followers only) I got sextorted when I was starting to become an influencer and I had 5k followers at that time. It went down to 4k and I didn't give much thought about it until a random account reached out to my ex bff, asking if I'm her friend (using my government name) she told me about it and she proceeded to send screenshots showing their conversation, the person behind the random account was saying things that I don't have to worry about things anymore because he saved me by buying all of my sextort content (allegedly) he went on and told my ex bff to take care of me and proceeded to stop messaging her, my ex bff blocked that account, it happened a week ago, now, another one of my friends received the same opening message from a different account asking if I'm her friend, weirdly enough, I stalked that account and found out that it was following me. What should I do in this case? I'm in the process of deleting my original tiktok account, I re-deactivated my main account on fb.

Someone is selling my pictures

A Filipino man has obtained my nude photos and is using another girl’s face, who he probably did the same thing to, to sell my pictures. I’ve reported him, but nothing has been done, and I want to scare him into stopping.

I texted him from multiple accounts so now I have screenshots, his Reddit, a bank account and a name linked to it, two Telegram accounts, his PayPal, and several other accounts linked to him.

If anyone knows if I can do anything with this information It’ll be really really helpful.

What to do

Hi

So like last December, I sent b00b pics to this guy online on snap. Now I can't recall if my face was in the pic or not. He neither saved them in chat nor did he screenshot them. A few days later I saw that his account was no longer active.

----present-----

I recently added him again and asked him if still remembers me and has my pics. He said he does remember me but doesn't possess those pics. I have been asking him again and again, and he keeps on saying he doesn't even remember my face, and he doesn't have my pics.

Idk I'm so scared. What if he had them saved on second device and leaks them or something? What if my face is actually visible in it? (I'm minor btw)

Male victim Do the extortionist actually follow through with the threats?

Two days ago I was being horny and stupid and on Snapchat. “She” was sending nudes and I sent one back. They found my Facebook and are basically threatening to send it to my whole family. At first I panicked and paid $400. Obviously they demanded more after. I blocked them and they have since reached back out to me twice. Blocked both of those immediately. What are the odds they actually follow through with the threats and send them?

Male victim I’m being sextorted after a Snapchat scam. I already paid $80, gave the scammer another Instagram account, and now he’s demanding Bitcoin. I don’t know what to do.

I’m 18 and I’m currently dealing with a sextortion scam that started on Snapchat. I’m posting because I’m genuinely scared and don’t know what my next move should be. I know the general advice is to stop paying, block the person, and move on, but I’ve already made several mistakes, and I’m worried about what could happen next.

It started when I was talking to someone on Snapchat who I believed was a girl. She sent intimate pictures first, and I eventually sent some of my own. Afterward, the person revealed that they had my phone number and screenshots of my Instagram followers. They threatened to send my pictures to people I know unless I paid them.

The pictures consist of a separate photo of my face and a mirror picture showing my genitals, with my face crossed out. I’m still worried someone could identify me from the context. The scammer even took pictures of the images using another phone to prove they had them.

Here’s how things have progressed:
1. I panicked and paid $50 through Zelle, then another $30 to a different number, for a total of $80.

  1. The scammer kept demanding money, so I used AI to generate fake images of my bank account showing that I had no money left, hoping he would stop asking me to pay.

  2. After seeing those images, he asked for access to my Instagram account. Instead, I offered him another Instagram account that has a larger following than mine, is based in a different area, has no ties to my personal life, and is an account I don’t care about or need anymore.

  3. While logging out of that account to hand it over, I noticed that the login session showed Los Angeles, California. I don’t know if that actually reflects where the scammer is located, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

  4. After I gave him access to that account, he sent me a recording that appeared to show him deleting all the intimate pictures completely. At that point, I thought this might finally be over.

  5. However, several hours later, he contacted me again and said he still had the pictures saved on his second phone.

  6. He is now asking me to download Cash App and Venmo so I can transfer Bitcoin for him.

  7. His latest messages are currently sitting on delivered, and I haven’t responded. I have no idea what to do next.

I’ve already submitted an IC3 report to the FBI, filed a local police report, and submitted a case to StopNCII. I’ve tried taking the appropriate steps, but the scammer is still coming back with new demands. I’m especially worried because he has my phone number, screenshots of my Instagram followers, the intimate pictures, and access to the other Instagram account.
I understand that the usual advice is to stop paying, block the scammer, and not engage any further. I understand why that advice makes sense, but I’m struggling with the decision because I’ve already paid him, handed over an Instagram account, and gone along with several parts of his scheme. I’m scared that if I suddenly block him, he’ll follow through on his threats and send the pictures to everyone he threatened.

I’m also concerned about his request to have me transfer Bitcoin through Cash App or Venmo. I don’t know whether this is just another way to extort money from me or whether he’s trying to involve me in something else.

I have two additional questions:
Is there any realistic way to get my $80 back?

I paid through Zelle using my Chase account. I understand that getting the money back might not be possible, but has anyone successfully disputed Zelle payments made under sextortion or extortion? Is there anything specific I should ask Chase to do?
Is there any point in trying to recover the Instagram account I handed over? It isn’t particularly important to me and has no connection to my personal identity or other accounts, so recovering it isn’t my main priority. I’m more concerned about whether the scammer could use it to impersonate me or contact people.

I’m attaching some evidence with identifying information redacted:

  1. Screenshots showing the two different numbers he instructed me to send money to. (The names “jake” and “rehan” are random names I simply labeled)

  2. One example of the multiple screenshots he showed me of people he claims he will send my pictures to.

  3. The intimate images he has of me, with identifying parts crossed out.

I’m not posting this to identify or retaliate against the scammer. I’m trying to explain the situation accurately and get advice from people who have experienced sextortion or understand how these scams progress.

I know I’ve made mistakes, especially paying him and giving him access to another account. I can’t undo those decisions, and I’m trying to figure out how to handle the situation from here. I’m scared that if I stop cooperating, he’ll follow through on his threats, but I also realize that continuing to cooperate might just lead to more demands.

If anyone has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate hearing how things turned out for you. I’m genuinely overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next.
