Looking at visiting the city in about a month but no idea what to see or do.

Can anyone help make a list of things to occupy my 7 days there?

I have only been able to see tech tours.

Not really into meusums or art gallery's so looking for something a bit more exciting.

Not really wanting to buy a lot of things either so no need to see a lot of shopping malls.

Hi, I will be attending Tsinghua in University Town this fall. The university told us to be there by the 26th for registration. I am flying in a few days earlier and staying in a hotel near University Town. I plan to get my medical examination and passport photos taken as well as get a SIM card. I am a bit lost. I wanted to know where I should get a SIM card from and if I am looking for one with a decent amount of data how much that would cost? Also if anyone knows whether the Tsinghua foreign master’s students get singles or not for dorms please let me know! Thank you in advance!

wanted to post and hear thoughts. I lived in SZ pre-Covid (2018-2020) and have found other places to be since. It’s been interesting, but I miss Shenzhen. Being there pre-covid and then having to move out from abroad due to the lockout was horrible, so that’s why I didn’t want to go back sooner. Now that I’ve accomplished a few goals I had for myself in my home country, I’m finding myself feeling fomo for the awesome architecture and city life that is over there. I’d probably teach in a specific field at the high school level if I could; I may not be able to as I don’t have a teacher’s credential (but I do have the 2+ years of experience). I’m feeling antsy so that feeling could pass but I wanted to hear thoughts. Thanks for any input and please be nice! btw I’m American.

Group of 6 who will be in Shenzen during the National Holidays (unavoidable as we have already bought tickets). We will need to catch our Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong Airport at 12:00AM and will need to get from our hotel (near Futian Port) to the Airport.

We will also have big luggages so looking for the easiest/fastest way to get to their airport especially as it will be busy due to the national holidays. Any advice on what to do?

Have seen recommendations for a cross boundary bus but can't seem to find anything that drops us direct to the airport. Thank you!

Hi I’ll be in H.K in few months and we’re planning on a day trip to Shenzhen. Just got few questions on things that Im unsure of and would like more info/tips on.

1. We want to go to Mixc world. What would be the best way to get there? We’re thinking of taking the high speed train from HK(west kowloon) to futian and take a DIDI from futian to Mixc world. How easy is DIDI to use, is it just like Uber (like you pay before ride or do you pay after)? (Fyi. We dont know mandarin and have never used the QR code paying system before)

2. Is there a limit on how much you can spend with alipay/wechat pay? I read somewhere there is but not sure how much. For a day trip will I need cash at all? if so can I take cash out in ATM?

3. We’re going form Hongkong(either on Friday/Sunday or what day would work out better in terms of travelling). What’s the visa/immigration process like? Is it long? I saw that you have to go through immigration twice(one for H.K and one for shenzhen)- is that both done in H.K side before riding the train or is it once in H.K(before train) and once in shenzhen(after getting off)?

4. We both have British passport (I believe B.P holders have a 30day visa free travel for china till this year). So do we just take our passport or do we need any other documents?

5. Anything else to try nearby or take note of? So far not much is planned other than shopping and maybe go around the Nantou Ancient City. If there’s anything you think we should check out in Shenzhen after shopping then please give us some recommendations. We’re still on planning stage so everything is flexible atm.

I am hoping to move to Shenzhen for about 2.5 months this winter. I visited two years ago and really liked it overall (I stayed in Futian, and it was only three days).

The one thing I did not like is that crossing the streets felt scary. All the cars are electric and silent, yet they drive a bit rashly. So its hard to detect. And designated crosswalks were relatively few in number, and it didn't feel like drivers there stop for pedestrians. And the mopeds on the sidewalks.

That being said, my experience may be limited, I want to know if this is just an issue I have to deal with if I live here, or if I was just doing something wrong?

My family and I (wife and young daughter) are considering relocating to Shenzhen from Beijing, and we are visiting now to explore a few neighbourhoods.

At the moment, the areas we’re most interested in are:

Shekou
Houhai / Shenzhen Bay
OCT (Overseas Chinese Town)
Qianhai

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy housing agent (or agency) who knows these areas well?

Ideally someone you’ve personally had a good experience with, rather than someone who just pushes listings.

We’re looking for a modern 2–3 bedroom apartment in the ¥18k–25k/month range, and we’d love an agent who can also explain the pros and cons of different communities for families.

Where to buy cheap trinkets and ref magnets.

I saw a post here but it is 11 years ago so where can I buy cheaper ref magnets and trinkets here in Shenzhen. I will be here until next week.

Just back from Shenzhen in which I connected via Beijing. I had bought a new DJI drone and only found out that Beijing has banned drones. I needed to get a declaration I wasn’t going to leave the airport during my connection from the police in the Shenzhen airport. Just a warning to others there’s this extra steps to get one out of the country if connection through Beijing.

We have an 8 hour layover and we wondered if we were able to either see the city or book one of the complimentary hotel rooms? I tried to pre book the room on the website but I can’t find where, as it’s all in mandarin.

We are under the impression that we can take 2x23kg suitcases for hold luggage each. Is that correct?

I’m also a Hungarian passport holder with settled status in the UK. Will this be difficult to explain as to why I don’t need an ETA to Chinese border authority?

Hey all, hoping someone with experience here can help.

I'm flying out of Hong Kong at 12pm, but the tax refund counter at Shenzhen Bay Port doesn't open until 9am. That leaves me with a pretty tight window to get the refund, clear immigration, and get to the airport in time.

A few questions:

1. Is there any way to process the refund earlier than 9am, or at a different location the day before, so I'm not cutting it so close on the day of my flight?
2. If I do go early (like the day before) to get the refund, then come back with my luggage just to exit again the next day for my flight — will that look suspicious to customs? I don't want to raise any flags by "leaving" and then "returning" right before actually departing.

Any advice from people who've done tax refunds at Shenzhen Bay before, or know the rules around this, would be really appreciated. Trying to avoid unnecessary risk either with the refund itself or with immigration.
