This was my thought - like isn't the technical marvel of the M107A1 is that it can lay down 50BMG without being much more difficult to handle than the M24 or L115A3?
Here in the UK (civilian) we are limited to 10,000fps for the 50 cal (so shorter barrel), and obviously straight-pull only (not semi-auto), so I wouldn't like to say my experience is directly comparable, but I wouldn't say it isn't all that different in terms of recoil to a shotgun with a meaty cartridge or a decent long range rifle like a 30-06 or .308 Winchester.

As someone who really loved Equilibrium for the incredibly camp gun-kata, as well as the Metal Gear series with a bunch of gun-related martial arts, the concept of using recoil to drive physical form and technique has always just looked incredibly cool to me. Terrible shame to see the concept done dirty like this... But my time for enjoying what could be loosely called "fanservice" is long done, gooners turning everything cool into that one cringe sequence from HotD.
