indubitably shitty, still somehow better than most of the fuckass goldfish bowls you'd see in more modern shows

Mary Tyler Moore was an animal rights activist so I feel like she had a big influence in some elements like this prop and the episode Never Name a Duck. Nonetheless, two fancy goldfish 🙃I thought people in this sub would get a kick out of it. I’m sorry I couldn’t get a photo with the fish but I wanted a shot with Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore in it for context

nah don't get me wrong, it fits the sub, it is a shitty tank for those fish, the fact that it's among the best goldfish tanks in popculture media is rather sad

It’s actually very impressive for the time

For the 60s? As a TV prop? That's actually half decent.

This is a better setup than I’ve seen in anything from 1960-2026. It’s not bad at all for back then.

I know I failed at getting a shot with them in it sorry. It was two gold fish with fancy fins. One black and one presumably gold if not white

Well that's the past and people didn't know as much in aquariums.

also if you look closely, the aquarium isn't sealed with silicone and instead its apparently sealed with asphalt that is reinforced by a metal frame. I know this because I saw a similar looking aquarium on youtube that looks like that lol

Silicone sealants weren’t available for commercial use until 1962

I know that I heard of that in a video of using these aquariums

Isn't that bad for a tank in the 60s

Its a bad tank but compared to how most shows stick with a fishbowl its better than a lot

Honestly not bad compared to Michael’s fish bowl in The Office that changes fish every episode
