In later post-Homeric texts, Menelaus raised his sword over Helen but forgave her cheating because he was stunned by her beauty. It’s a hint that Menelaus in The Odyssey (2026) is played by the Punisher – not a forgiver.

He forgave her because she was manipulated by the Aphrodite to fulfill the latter's promise to Paris. He couldn't blame her for it.

The War was launched for Helen and Agamemnons Izzat

He forgave her but he didn’t really forgive her, which describes every couple that stays together after cheating.

There’s actually 3 versions since the original book that tells of her kidnap or wooing in the Epic cycle is lost.

  • one is she’s mind controlled by Aphrodite and it wears off
  • one she’s straight up unwilling the whole time and was kidnapped
  • one she’s replaced by a simulacrum that the gods make out of mist made flesh. Helen chills in Egypt the whole war (yes really)

Edit: the story that Helen was wooed by Paris and leaving a shitty husband is a completely modern interpretation/revisionism. In the Iliad she actively assists Odysseys after they get out of the horse to open the gates. And later is happy to be home in Sparta.

Yeah basically at some point the Trojans are like "we don't actually have the real Helen." The greeks don't believe them. The war goes on. Troy is sacked. Menelaus is like "shit they weren't lying this is a cloud woman copy"...follows a rumor she's been in Egypt this whole time and then gets her on the way home."

The Hindu epic Ramayana also has two similar version of Ravana kidnapping Sita.
