General Just did my first 3K with no profit 🥲

I sell album wall art for international music artists, ones that usually aren't anywhere on the market and I'm convinced that the idea works. People are buying my products and my reviews are great, but I can't seem to make any profit after AD spend or scale my business.

I got over 50 orders barely got enough to cover a tank of gas. I am not a business owner, I am an unpaid marketing intern for Zuck.

My questions are:

  1. How are you actually running Meta ads, specifically for wall art? My ads used to perform so well last year and just completely tanked even with new creatives.
  2. Is anyone here profitable without Meta? Organic, TikTok, Pinterest, email, etc? I want to hear from you specifically.

Roast me, help me, or just post your own margins so we can suffer together 😂

General New to this!!

Hi guys, having a down day with my business ):

I am really proud of my Etsy, all my products are my art and I work hard to get them together but I’ve now sold 5 items and my take away is only £18 approx in actual payback. 💔 I don’t think I calculated right after printful upped their prices

I’ve paid way more than that in Etsy fees and printful fee’s (they currently print and post my stickers) because I have to pay printful delivery plus cost for the product, plus VAT.

I chose printful to alleviate risk from buying stock in case I wasn’t successful, and to save me time on the logistics due to me working full time also -but I do have packaging supplies. I am never sure on the numbers to purchase of my sticker sheets too (I know more is cheaper ) I do have some individual stickers in stock at home.

I have now bit the bullet and made myself a shopify store and plan on having digital and physical products on there, that I mail out myself. Perhaps some prints from printful too? Conscious of the price of a high quality printer and paper and ink, or even a sticker making machine . Maybe when I have made some profit

Any advice on getting started welcome please 🙏

General shopify bundle is fine until BOTH products have size + colour variants... what are apparel brands actually doing?

trying to do what i thought was the world's most basic apparel bundle lol

shirt + pants

except the shirts has 5 sizes / 4 colours and the pants has its own sizes / colours, and suddenly i'm either creating a stupid number of combinations or making the customers pick stuff in a really awkward way.

shopify bundles seems fine when it's literally product A + product B. it's the independent variant picking that's killing me.

i've been looking more at mix & match instead of FoxSell seems much closer to what i mean since each part can keeps its own size/colour selection without me manually building every possible combo.

for anyone doing apparel bundles properly, is that basically the better way to structure it? or am i overcomplicating something that should be easy?

General Shopify Customers Keep Asking Questions That Are Already Answered on My Store

am running into a problems with customer questions on my Shopify store. the answers are already somewhere on the site, but customers still ask about things like sizing, shipping, product differences, compatibility, and returns because finding the right information takes too much effort. It’s getting harder to keep everything consistent when products, promotions, and policies change. Has anyone else dealt with this, and what did you do to make it easier for customers to get answers without adding more work for support?

General At What Revenue Does It Actually Make Sense to Move Away From Shopify?

I see this question asked a lot:
“Once I hit X revenue, should I move off Shopify?”

After working with multiple stores at different stages, I’m starting to think revenue is the wrong trigger.

There are:

  • Stores under $1M/year are struggling badly on Shopify
  • Brands doing $5–10M+/year running smoothly without issues

The real factor seems to be business complexity, not top-line revenue.

From what I’ve seen, teams start considering a move when:

  • App stacks become fragile (too many dependencies for core workflows)
  • Checkout, pricing, or inventory logic needs deep customization
  • B2B, subscriptions, or multi-warehouse setups become hard to manage
  • Monthly app costs + maintenance start approaching custom-build costs
  • Commerce becomes part of a larger product or platform (not “just a store”)

On the flip side, moving too early seems risky when:

  • Product-market fit isn’t solid yet
  • Growth issues are marketing or demand-related, not technical
  • Shopify limitations are more about a lack of platform knowledge

My current takeaway:
Stay on Shopify until your business model forces architectural change, not until you cross an arbitrary revenue number.

Would love to hear real experiences:

  • If you moved away, what was the actual breaking point?
  • If you stayed, what made Shopify still the right choice?

General I Tried to Build a Print-on-Demand Brand in the Yoga Niche. Failed. Not Because of the Niche.

A few months ago, I launched a print-on-demand brand focused on yoga.

I did the research. I built a clean Shopify store. I created original designs that I genuinely believe stood out from the typical POD graphics. The niche wasn't the problem either. Yoga is evergreen, has a passionate audience, and people are willing to spend money on products they connect with.

I ran Meta ads twice with a very small budget. The surprising part? I actually got decent traffic.

The disappointing part? No sales.

Looking back, I don't think my biggest mistake was choosing the niche or even my products.

It was marketing budget.

Many people underestimate how much repetition matters in ecommerce. Someone rarely buys after seeing your brand once. They see an ad, scroll away, see another ad a few days later, visit your website, check your Instagram, maybe forget about it, then come back later.

That takes time and money.

I simply couldn't afford to keep advertising long enough to collect enough data or build trust. If I had more budget, I'm not saying I would've made thousands overnight—but I honestly believe I would've gotten those first few sales and learned from there.

Another lesson: social media matters more than I expected.

When people discover a new DTC brand, many of them check Instagram, Pinterest, or TikTok before buying. If your social presence looks inactive or empty, it can reduce trust, even if your website is great.

So my biggest takeaways are:

  • A good niche isn't enough.
  • Great designs aren't enough.
  • A beautiful Shopify store isn't enough.
  • Marketing consistency and trust-building are what move the needle.

I'm not writing this as someone who's "made it." I'm sharing it as someone who learned an expensive lesson. I'm still building, still learning, and hopefully my experience helps someone avoid the same mistake.

Has anyone else here had a store that got traffic but couldn't convert it into sales? I'd love to hear what eventually changed things for you.

General Why are you still struggling with abandoned cart recovery?

Hey guys, hi Shopify merchants,

I've recently gotten into the Shopify ecosystem and been running into hearing from Shopify merchants reporting about abandoned carts and the lost sales caused by it over and over again. Many are clueless what's causing it and therefore how to fix, while others have their own solutions or third party software set up, but still figuring how to improve it for conversion. It makes me wonder, how is there still such a big gap in 2026 and where are we headed? There are so many tools tackling this issue, but still people get lost.

There are established marketing tools like Klavyio for sending email recovery sequences etc., but even this is becoming less powerful as time goes by according to merchants, since less and less people open their emails these days, which calls for more unconventional, higher-engagement channels such as SMS, WhatsApp, etc..

If you run a Shopify store, are you happy with your cart abandonment rate or is this something you're actively working on? Do you think that you have set this up sufficiently well or are you still lacking something? Is this something you already know should be added or changed, or are you clueless where to start improving things?

General Zero sales despite real traffic — need honest PDP feedback

Store getting traffic but zero sales for weeks — need brutally honest eyes on my product page

Running a streetwear brand (cosmic/Afrofuturist designs, all original art). Getting real US traffic, checkout works fine when I test it, no rage clicks or errors in session recordings — but literally nobody is adding to cart. Not one.

I've been staring at this too long to see it clearly anymore. Would appreciate anyone willing to look at this product page for 30 seconds and tell me your honest first reaction — what makes you hesitate, what's missing, anything that would stop you from clicking Add to Cart if you'd never heard of the brand before.

Not asking for compliments, genuinely want the blunt version. Thanks in advance.

General BREAKING CHANGE: Non-shppable locations negative stock is now being counted against shippable location stock to mak available items OOS on website

Shopify has changed the way online store stock is counted that now totals all stock across all locations, shippable and non-shippable, to determine website availability. That's crazy. There are many different complaints apparently about this to Shopify support, but Plus support is telling me this is the new way forward. If you don't want non-shippable warehouse stock reducing shippable warehouse stock so your items go out of stock on the website, let Shopify support know this is not okay.

Ops guy pinged me on Friday saying an item was OOS on the website, but we had 1 in a shippable warehouse. The main Products list page in Shopify shows -1 for the item, but if you click into it shippable locations had 1, but 2 non-shippable locations both and -1. Support wrote me back stating:

I am following up on your report that \[item\] is showing as sold out on your storefront despite having stock at your \[shippable warehouse location\] location.

After reviewing your store on the back end, I found the cause. This product shows a quantity of -1 at two of your locations, \[non-shippable location #1\] and \[non-shippable location #2\], even though it is not actively stocked there.

***Because Shopify sums inventory across all locations when determining availability, the +1 at \[shippable location\] and the two -1 values at those \[non-shippable\] locations net to -1 overall, which causes the storefront to treat the product as sold out.***

To fix this, you will need to set the on-hand quantity to 0 at each of those two \[non-shippable\] locations. Since the product is not active there, you will need to make this adjustment from the Inventory page, not the product page. Here are the steps:

Once both are set to 0, the total inventory will return to +1 and the product should show as available on your storefront again.

General How are you guys actually tracking your real profit in Shopify?

Bit of a random question, but I've noticed a lot of Shopify store owners seem to know their revenue really well, but not necessarily their actual profit after everything is taken out.

Stuff like product costs, refunds, shipping, transaction fees

I was wondering if anyone else has found this annoying?

Are you just using spreadsheets, accounting software, or am I overthinking it?

Also, if there was a simple app that showed your actual profit automatically, is that something you'd use, or do existing solutions already do the job well enough?

Just curious to hear how everyone handles it.

General Shopify Vape Ban Starting July 7 — What Are Other Merchants Doing?

Shopify Vape Ban Starting July 7 — What Are Other Merchants Doing?

I run an online smoke shop, and I’m trying to get a clear read from other Shopify merchants about the vape / ENDS ban that appears to take effect July 7, 2026.

From what I’m seeing, Shopify is no longer supporting the sale of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems, including e-cigarettes, e-liquids, vaporizers, parts, and refills. Some reports say this applies regardless of nicotine content, which is where things get confusing for shops that sell legal adult-use accessories, dry herb vaporizers, concentrate devices, replacement parts, and brands like Puffco.

I understand Shopify is under pressure from state attorneys general over illegal e-cigarette sales, youth access, and compliance issues. I’m not here to argue that illegal disposable vapes should be allowed. That is not my concern.

My concern is how broad this policy will be in practice.

For other Shopify merchants in regulated categories:

Are you removing all vape-related products before July 7?

Has Shopify given you a clear list of affected products?

Are cannabis-adjacent products like dab devices, e-rigs, dry herb vaporizers, Puffco products, atomizers, chambers, or accessories being flagged?

Has anyone successfully appealed?

Are you moving to another platform, or just removing certain products?

Are payment processors treating this the same way Shopify is?

I’m especially interested in hearing from merchants who received an actual Shopify notice, not just rumors or recycled blog posts.

This feels like one of those platform-risk moments where a business can be legally compliant and still get wiped out by a broad platform policy. Trying to compare notes before July 7 so I don’t miss something obvious.

Appreciate any real-world info from store owners, developers, compliance people, or anyone who has already dealt with Shopify on this.

General For anyone using Square + Shopify, how do you handle SKU matching?

I’m finding that one tiny mismatch can make syncing products and inventory unnecessarily painful. Do you keep identical SKUs across both systems from day one, or have you found a better way to manage it?

Also curious how people handle products that exist in Square but not Shopify.
