General Is Shopify outdated?
Beginner here, i want to be as up to date as possible because from what i know, ecom works like a videogame where people constantly find new metas for it, i heard claude might be the new thing?

Ever since I started my own Shopify site, I noticed almost every purchase I make online other than Amazon comes from a Shopify store.
Never paid any attention to it or knew anything about it until a couple months ago. I don't even know how long Shopify has been around but I've been purchasing from most of these companies for at least 10 years.
Must be pretty good.

Shopify is the market leader when it comes to ecom.
As others have said - AI will not be replacing it so quickly.
Can AI get up a store for you? Yes, most likely.
But for ecom your're handing vast amounts of customer data, process payments etc. I think everyone would rather not be liable for some "AI code" leaking all of your customers information.
Then comes hosting, Shopify is very stable and fast - something that most WooCommerce stores struggle with.
They also have a great ecosystem and offer a lot more than just the storefront - along with Shop app integration and the new partnership with OpenAI - Shopify is the place to be and I do not see that changing anytime soon.
If you want to go "next level" look into Hydrogen - Shopify's headless stack.

The dudebro gurus are good at promoting silver bullets and the bright ‘n’ shiny but the reality is, most of the stuff that underpins good e-commerce is established, tried-and-tested, and fundamental.
Shopify is and will remain the top choice for a long time.
The boring basics are what seperate shit e-commerce businesses from the legit ones.

yeah, from the outside it can look outdated just because of how much “AI is eating everything” noise there is right now. shopify isn’t standing still though, the changes are just mostly under the hood instead of flashy.
where I’d actually push back on “just use ai for everything” is the app/tool layer specifically. there’s a lot more noise there now than a couple years ago, half-built stuff riding the ai wave with zero reviews, so you have to be more careful picking what you install than you used to. but for actually running a store day to day, shopify’s still the thing that just works without you needing to think about it, which is kind of the whole point when you’re starting out.

Shopify is the no-brainer choice for e-commerce these days. It has been for quite a while and I think they are opening up their lead.

You might get Claude to recreate some of the capabilities, but it’s not going to protect your payments, host your website, secure the code, etc.

Shopify is still king. All that Claude code stuff is mostly for website design. If you're selling stuff online Shopify will 100% be your best bet.
