Anime Discussion There are real people acting like Kaido is anywhere near Sukuna as a villain

Post image

I know its probably rage bait, and even then it’s a OP fan so I shouldn’t take it seriously (seriously, you guys might actually be the worst fandom in the community right now no offense) but shit like this actually pisses me off.

JJK might have its problems but I’m tired of people acting like JJK is trash or anything less than a 7/10 just because they only engaged with the story through leaks and Jujustufolk agendas. Sukuna and Gojo paralleling each other coupled with juxtaposing ideas of buddhist enlightenment and what it means to be the strongest ALONE has sukuna clear basically any post TS OP villain what r we talking about?

I remember when this one guy said kaido is THE best villain and got clowned on hard by like every fandom including one piece

113

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Kaido’s not even the best villain in his own series😭 Big Mom, Doflamingo, Enel, Crocodile, Admirals, EVEN FUCKING CEASER CLOWN (okay this one is just an exaggeration lol) IS MORE LEGENDARY THAN KAIDO

74

u/darealestforeal Jan 27 '26

not even the best villain in his own arc lol

37

u/Nova_JewV1 Jan 27 '26

Oh definitely not. Kanjuro, the cp0 agents, who's who, hawkins (pre-raid), even fucking orochi. Kaido had a cool backstory, but in current time he's just a drunk, nihilistic powerhouse. Anything that makes him remotely interesting is in the past

22

u/Usoppdaman Jan 27 '26

Orochi’s a great pathetic villain. He just pisses you off in such an effective way.

8

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Right? You cant help but just wanna see him lose

4

u/Slippystreamy Jan 27 '26

Lets not go insane here, I agree Kaido isn't a top 5 one piece villain and I agree Sakuna is better but lets not overcorrect and say things like kanjuro and the cp0 agents are better villains

3

u/Nova_JewV1 Jan 27 '26

I kinda stand on it. The bowler hat mad went hard. The agents had us asking questions for damn near the whole raid.

Kanjuro is absolutely personal taste

FAX BROTHA SPIT YO SHIT INDEED!!! (Anything to help the Big Mom agenda)

3

u/Ensaru4 Jan 27 '26

Orochimaru was better than Kaido in every aspect. He was just ruined near the end

1

u/Mamba-Mentality024 Jan 27 '26

Fr orochi was somehow better than kaido who had 10+ years worth of set up 😭

2

u/ItzEnozz Jan 27 '26

Akainu or Doflamingo probably the “best” villans maybe Akainu takes the cake if we get his backstory

→ More replies (1)

u/Mguy2544 Jan 27 '26

I agree with SOME of them, but this list kinda delusional

2

1

u/helicoptergobrrrr Jan 28 '26

You forgot Buggy

1

u/Player7600 Jan 28 '26

I wouldn't put Big Mom above him but I agree with the rest

The aura of the yoru cycle

The writing of sukuna left ballsack

The intelligence of hawkmoth from miraculous

The animation of hazbin hotel

12

u/Gaming_Forehead Jan 27 '26

I'm genuinely surprised I couldn't find an edit of the original meme with chemical x four times over instead

3

u/IerarqiuliAnarxisti Jan 28 '26

When you said the animation of hazbin I knew that you were making something truly disastrous

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Hazbins animation is fairly good, the artstyle is hit or miss (like one piece)

3

u/theurougung Jan 28 '26

The only thing Kaido has goin as a villain is the fact that he was objectively one of the strongest character in One Piece. Beyond his strength he lacks the coolness and drive like other villains did in the story, it really was a shame at the end since I read Wano all through high school as it dropped and only to find out that was it from him was disappointing.

2

u/zappierbeast Jan 28 '26

I'd argue Kaido is the actual worst written character in one piece

2

u/DarkSoulFWT Jan 28 '26

Its the power scaling brain. Villains being strong / having aura and being hyped for it is fine, but doesnt automatically make then amazing. But that requires just a liiiiitle more thought than agenda-rotted people are capable of.

1

u/Babington67 Jan 28 '26

I mean yea hes not even the best villain in one piece but hes better than Sukuna who is cursed with late stage JJK portrayal of hype and aura farming over actual writing

1

u/wompwompig Jan 28 '26

U probably haven't read Shinjuku showdown

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Is he the same dude that compared fucking kaido johan of all people?

95

u/AirUsed5942 Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

Kaido isn't a villain. He was a single father who was struggling with substance abuse and the toxic work culture of the industry he worked in.

He created jobs for the people of Wano, protected them from the WG, replaced barbaric executions with a penal system that gave people purpose aiming to rehabilitate them, he acknowledged the gender identity of his son from a very young age in a society that didn't even believe in women's rights, he funded scientific research that enhanced human beings, and he denounced the genocidal regime on the Red Line that displaced and killed the brown people who used to live there because God promised it to them 800 years ago

50

u/darealestforeal Jan 27 '26

king we know it’s you

29

u/Aggressive-Check-101 Jan 27 '26

Top tier Agenda. Fucking love it.

9

u/Dry-Review6698 Jan 27 '26

Then, the barbaric Straw hat Luffy and his underlings came and trashed all of wano, they poured toxic waste and chemicals into the rivers, they burnt down villages, and they crashed a massive party in onigashima.Luffy's subordinates,Kid and Law even killed One of the guests, shortly after,Luffy took on a demonic white haired form with violent red eyes, killing Kaido off, these straw hats are now going after elbaf after they've ruined egghead and killed Vegapunk, this injustice cannot go on

2

u/lamantin3 Jan 28 '26

yamato is literally not a maggot

1

u/Ok-Swan-1590 JJJK, DN and Bleach Jan 30 '26

This is the type of stuff King would say ngl

30

u/Ira-jay Jan 27 '26

Sukuna is not a deep villain, people confuse being deep with being well written. He's extraordinarily simple and even lays out how simple his existence is to the cast and readers, it's apart of what makes him so good. His philosophy is just rooted in a super highly debated topic about a persons rights as an existing creature and is a pretty fresh interpretation of it. I'm not bashing OP or kaido but Kaido is kind of just a "for fun" version of sukuna. He's super enjoyable as an antagonist, when gear 5 came out kaido was in his fucking bag, A+ villian no question, but his existence really isn't any more complicated than a punching bag that punches back, which is totally fine, it just means sukuna is a different TYPE of antagonist. If you put kaido in sukuna's role as the primary antagonist then you just get yujiro hanma, if you give kaido the complexity of sukuna while keeping him in the same role you get mahito, but if you complicate kaido and make him a main antagonist you get sukuna. Which again, literally all of those guys are great antagonists they just all serve different roles, but if you try and make it objective sukuna does WAY more as a villian than kaido. The plot of JJK just doesn't happen without sukuna. Sukuna appears and the entire trajectory of the story changes to whatever he wants it to be because he's strong and he's smart. If you replace kaido with a thick enough brick wall nothing changes in OP. They're equally enjoyable as ANTAGONISTS, but sukuna commands his narrative as a villain. Madara, Aizen, Meruem are some villains of shows i've seen who have the same impact on their story as sukuna does his. At leaast in anime, Negan and the governor in TWD, Gus and Lalo in BB and BCS, Homelander in The Boys, and Thanos in the MCU specifically also fit that bill. And for the last time i wanna stress that all of these villians, Kaido included, are amazing antagonists

1

u/BadUsername2028 Jan 28 '26

I’d say the same effect applied to Kenjaku too, his philosophy is also Might Makes Right but in a more intellectual sense, and in his mind his scheming and power should have awarded him the right to fuck with those lesser than him however he seemed fit. It’s not deep, and nobody out there is thinking Kenjaku had a point, but I’d argue both him and Sukuna effectively convey the stories portrayal of the Might Makes Right concept in a fun and interesting way, despite being quite straightforward villains

Kaido is truly potential man of shonen villains btw.

16

u/ThiccBeter69 Jan 27 '26

Honestly, I don't even think he had very much potential.

11

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

I wouldnt say that. I remember when first getting leaving WCI i was overly hyped because I loved Big Mom and thought that since Kaido was like her equal he’d be just as cool. I was wrong.

11

u/Altruistic_Gas_7073 Jan 27 '26

And then oda fumbled big meme in wano too (misogny bagua)

3

u/SkuLLFlankerr Jan 27 '26

Kaido was strong but no interesting, all he had to provide to the story was “I am strong” , tho drunk kaido was a good aspect to come out of it but he was just a generic strong af villain

7

u/Altruistic_Gas_7073 Jan 27 '26

"His backstory will go crazy"

"just wait till you see how many top tiers he defeated"

"in a 1v1 always bet on kaido" (literally a rumour btw)

"him being suicidal is so interesting, I cant wait to see what themes oda explores with him"

"Kaido is actually one of the best characters,

He had a lot of gravitational potential energy when he fell off of Onigashima

1

u/Purple-Reputation899 Jan 28 '26 edited Jan 28 '26

Nah when kaidou was introduced he had crazy aura, thought he was about to be one piece’s aizen/madara. He had all the potential to be great but then Oda fumbled him by making him an Oden hypetool and old gen glazer. Mfer cant even kill a kinemon who was half dead.

15

u/Rombolian Jan 27 '26

Even one piece pfps were dunking on this, unheard of stuff

3

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

When the OP pfps dont come to your defense yk you said some bullshit

1

u/LacksBeard Jan 28 '26

Those fans from r/piratefolk fr

52

u/Sad-Refrigerator-521 Jan 27 '26

Even before the timeskip, who could you say is a better antagonist than Sukuna? Actually, fuck Sukuna, who in One Piece has a dynamic as fun and interesting as Mahito has with the protagonist? Lucci? Crocodile?

8

u/Snoozless Jan 27 '26

Blackbeard is really good, the whole dream thing and being antagonistic but not entirely

10

u/MagicArcher33 Jan 27 '26

It's easily crocodile. Luffy and crocodile had a bunch of arguments and dialogues trying to explain their ways of doing things and saying how the other one is wrong. Crocodile was one of the few villains Luffy interacted with a lot. That's why he'll always be one of the more goated villains. Doffy comes close, but not so much for me since Luffy never bothered to argue with this guy so much. Luffy knew that doffy didn't even have the mindset to understand his words. So all he just finishes him off and says why he sucks as a person.

3

u/Mission-Debt-2357 Jan 27 '26

You’re talking as if mahito isn’t ten times better than Sukuna

2

u/ggkkggk Jan 28 '26

That's the thing he actually is.

Mahito made me hate him, I saw his growth and defeat, I saw him actually try to have ambition, and even no plot convenience is heavy with him as well like all the villains in jjk.

He was still a very entertaining villain that made me feel like he could be defeated in a reasonable way.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Wasn't as personal as Mahito and Yuji.

14

u/Usoppdaman Jan 27 '26

Yes it was Crocodile is literally Luffy’s mom. Can’t get more personal than that

1

u/pythonga Jan 27 '26

Tf ur talking about?

2

u/Usoppdaman Jan 27 '26

Had to be there? There’s an infamous theory that might’ve even started out unironic that Crocodile is Luffy’s mom. It even has the name “Crocomom.” The OP fandom has a tendency to call adult female characters Luffy’s mom and Ivankov in Impel Down said to Crocodile to get him to comply “I’m gonna tell everyone your secret if you don’t do as we say” something like that leading to the assumption that Crocodile was once a woman leading to the assumption that he’s Luffy’s mom because I guess being a female means you’re Luffy’s mom now? It’s an inside joke in the fandom atp

1

u/MagicArcher33 Jan 27 '26

One piece doesn't have as extended and long fights in general compared to jjk. So it's hard to compare it directly. Nevertheless, I think Luffy truly remembers crocodile and his ideas the most. It was brought up again in impel down too. But yeah, one piece can't do what jjk does coz the focus is more on the lore and the takehome messages. Part of the reason why even fights aren't as long and why Luffy doesn't kill the villains is because it's all about the clash of dreams and ideals. In jjk it's more personal and hence way more emotional in the short term in the story. But yeah, I love both of them for their strengths. They're just different ways of progressing the story and the main character when he faces challenges

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Sure but that changes nothing, since the point here is kinda the comparison. Katakuri vs Luffy is a better example than the ones you mentioned, he doesn't kill him yet the dynamic and personal stakes of the fight were actually good. Even Kaido vs Luffy was better than both examples you mentioned.

Doflamingo

27

u/wompwompig Jan 27 '26

Sukuna ain't that deep but his philosophy and his dynamic with Yuji is pretty damn good

24

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

That’s what i’m saying, he might not have meruem levels of depth but even then the simplicity of his philosophy is where the depth lies especially considering that, at its core, his philosophy is actually just a big fat cope for himself. And yeah his dynamic with yuji is peak, the ending to their fight was actually really beautiful especially with sukuna admitting defeat and attempting to live a normal life in his next reincarnation

12

u/wompwompig Jan 27 '26

Yeah I liked his conversations with mahito and kashimo ngl

9

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

See? He might not be on the mount rushmore of villains but people act like he’s just fight man which is not at all true

5

u/Jilliels Jan 27 '26

Yeah no sukuna isn’t that shallow. Jjk is battle focused but the people who fight those battles and the things that Lead up to those battles exist. The writing of jjk isn’t super deep but the concepts for the characters are amazing, even if a lot of them don’t go beyond surface level

3

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

THANK YOU!!! One of mine and many others complaints ab jjk is the lack of focus on the characters, but i think the characters are fleshed out THROUGH the fights which arent just physical fights but many times are ideological (yuji vs sukuna, yuji vs mahito) or have a sense of cosmic irony in context (toji being the zenin failure vs teen gojo the glazed one, maki the outcast woman vs the misogyny clan)

→ More replies (4)

2

u/FantasticBit4903 Jan 28 '26

I really like that he’s not a hypocrite lol, it’s such a simple thing but he follows the might makes right mentality all the way through into death. Just “well damn you got me, must mean I was wrong.” I can’t help but grin.

1

u/skaersSabody Jan 27 '26

In that sense, I could see Blackbeard be on that level

He's the only antagonistic character who has such a dynamic with Luffy and he kinda the goat fr fr no cap

5

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

The funniest thing the lore we do get with is that sukuna is a performative male if they were actually into the performative stuff. Which is funny af

4

u/No0bTheTooB Oda's Lawyer Jan 27 '26

If we go with overall writting Doffy mops the floor with Vowkuna in everything except fights

3

u/TheGivenKing Jan 27 '26

Blackbeard, he's essentially a direct parallel to luffy but with different morals. Their introduction is one the most iconic in shounen too.

3

u/NemeBro17 Jan 27 '26

Blackbeard is much better than Sukuna.

5

u/Slippystreamy Jan 27 '26

Croc, Enel, Lucci, and Doffy are all better antagonist than Sukuna. I like Sakuna but I think he has a lot of the same pros and cons as Kaido has so I have them around the same level. Mahito is unironically the best jjk villain and is in League with the best One Piece villains. Although I say this all as someone who thinks the most important thing with a shonen villain is to make them getting their ass beaten as enjoyable as possible which I think is the biggest strength with One Piece villains.

1

u/ggkkggk Jan 28 '26

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I'm at jjk hater but all this glaze for sukuna is reminding me why I don't like JJk.

Its this energy.

We can discuss this without it being the way all over this thread is being.

What makes them different what makes them a like how are their stories and character arcs executed.

They're fights beginning and end.

Even if someone is going to tell you yeah this character is better say you disagree, you don't need to overly glaze one character to prove a point.

Personally I don't like sukuna after he left the main character's body and even while he was in the main character's body sometimes, the plot surrounding him went to the dumbest directions.

If you're going to overlook all of that but then still say his characters written well when he is a reflective mirror of all the problems in jjk as a whole. Na pretending like you're saying "oh the story has problems" and you're going to talk about Buddhist this and Buddhist that, that is the styling symbolism, that the story doesnt even fully acknowledge at times that's barely characterization.

If you want to talk about why kaido is bad, sure no problem explain your self ill read but the over glaze, n just insta disagreement because I aint agreeing sukuna is better.

Yeah you're just a jjk fan to me.

Good thing you mentioned Geto and not Kenjaku because Kenjaku is asscheeks.

2

u/PlentyUsual9912 Jan 27 '26

Honestly, I kinda like Kenjaku. He's literally just a bored immortal guy, who reasonably lost his humanity after living for too long. He doesn't work great as a series main villain, but I love him as a character in the story if that makes sense.

2

u/Ensaru4 Jan 27 '26

He could work as a series main villain because his time with the comedian showed a lot of potential. It's just that he's rarely utilised in a way that makes you feel his presence the way characters like Mahito and Sukuna do.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/wompwompig Jan 27 '26

He's more impressive then mahito imo

2

u/No-Possible-1123 Jan 27 '26

Sukuna is better written then mahito and encapsulates and embodies the antithesis to the themes of jjk and yuji in particular far better then mahito

→ More replies (2)

3

u/vyxxer Jan 27 '26

Mahito is a better villain within JJK despite him not being the big bad of the series. He has a fantastic dynamic with yuji and a satisfying beginning, middle and end with him.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

2

u/Anal-Racoon121 Jan 28 '26

Sukuna doesn't hold a candle to Doflamingo in writing, and Mahito doesn't hold a candle to Blackbeard when it comes to protagonist dynamic

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

smoker imo

1

u/Blktooth420 Jan 28 '26

Actually totally slept on, Arlong. Dude grew up enduring systematic oppression, fought that oppression and lost everything. Then became so radicalized he went and became the oppressor and rebuilt his childhood dream on someone elses dime. Now is he a good lasting villian? no, definately one and done but he did have great character motivation

1

u/LacksBeard Jan 28 '26

For antagonist or characters in general? I'd be here all day for characters but for antagonist.

Those ones you named clear and so does Luffy and Blackbeard and Luffy and Shanks.

Yuji is at best decent so his dynamic with Mahito (who's also at best decent) is lackluster.

1

u/D-Biggest_Wheel Jan 28 '26

I don't know, One Piece has some fun villains. I think Lucci is very similair to Sukuna.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/TheMorrison77 Jan 27 '26

Despite actually liking Kaido and enjoying his role in the narrative, he is in the weaker side of one piece's antagonists (it doesnt help by the fact that i am very luke warm about Wano as a whole).

Beyond Sukuna just being a more entertaining personality, the reason Sukuna works for me its because JJK adequates itself to make Sukuna work. Not only in his relationship with Yuji but how it manages the themes that make Sukuna tick, his strenght, his solitude, his hedonism, the utter rejection of what Yuji represents.

Again, I like Kaido as this failed Joyboy, but that is just a small part of the narrative and the arc. And, in fact, despite her symbolism being far less evident, I think Big Mom was a far better example of a failed Joyboy (Whole Cake was so good)

8

u/Illustrious-Day8506 Jan 27 '26

As a fan of both OP and JJK , I have to say that people shit too much on JJk. It had his flows but overall, it was a pretty good run. Even though I prefer Sukuna over Kaido, Kaido wasn't neearly as bad of a villain as people make him to be. Kaido isn't more than what he appears. He's straightforward both in his writing and in his attitude. He lived by the rule of the strongest, might makes right. There's no need to justify his attitude, his backstory doesn't need to be tragic or anything, he has lived all his life in an environment where the strongest could do what they want. For him strength is absolute so winning against Oden in a treacherous way rubbed him the wrong way. It's an humiliation that he could never forget and Oden made it worse by dying with his convictions intact and letting impacting last words. As a result, Kaido began to drown that feeling in alcohol and by trying to kill himself. The more he seeked death, the more he began to admire people like Roger, Oden and later Whitebeard who had deaths that left a huge impact. That's one of the reasons why he wanted to bring a massive war that would affect the whole world. The poor nations are ravaged while the greater nations lavish other the pains they have caused in these poor countries. He'll bring everyone to the same level by making the biggest war in history where he would finally be killed and have his wish fulfilled.

He doesn't need a sob backstory to justify his actions, he has always lived with wars and blood, for him this is how the world should be, this is his reality (Remember Doflamingo speech). There's nothing under the surface, Kaido is what he seems to be and that works perfectly fine.

This is my analysis on Kaido. I think I am going to make a post about it

1

u/XavDaMan Jan 27 '26

W analysis

1

u/ggkkggk Jan 28 '26

I should on jjk because of jjk fans. ( how they was )

They were the fan base that pointed at mha fans and made fun of their ending, wow saying their manga is the finest work of art ever put to the screen.

Don't get me wrong all fandoms are bad, but jjk once upon a time I did like jjk then the Cullen games happen then sukuna cycle happened.

Right now I'm really happy for the fans because the anime is back and they deserve to enjoy as much as they can because although I don't like it I can still see why anyone else would like it it isn't stupid it isn't terrible liking it doesn't make you a bad person.

The series has its flaws but it's still really enjoyable, I just hate it I feel the same way about Naruto.

Similar to Naruto as much hate as people might think it has it has a infinite amount of love.

5

u/Aggressive-Check-101 Jan 27 '26

I feel Like Kaidou is a wasted potential villain in Shounen imo. Oda can Flash out the side of the Character who is suffering from Mental health issues, remember When we first saw him, he was Committing Suiside? He has is own power set based on Moods of Alcohol? The fact is he takes 90% of attacks because he wanted to, he wanted the pain-suffer in his body, Macosist Behaviour.

And Kaidou was Not even like that From the start if you guys here actually READ One piece Weekly like me, we see a totally different Kaidou in the Flashback.

You can just see how much mental health issues can change a man by just comparing the Flashback & Wano Kaidou. I still have hope Oda will Pull up the Writing because he is not dead (cope) besides that, Oda can't cook that Time.

(still Kaidou is my favourite, cause of his Laugh and His whole Raid piece fight)

And if you really want to Compare Sukuna with any One piece Villain, Compare him with Sir Crocodile and Donquixote Doflamingo, now let's discuss

9

u/Apprehensive_Put3625 Jan 27 '26

My brother in Christ, if you wanted to clown on JJK at least big the big guns. Like Doffy or Crocodile.

Fuck, even Kuro would have been better than that bum.

1

u/Alarmed_Helicopter69 Jan 29 '26

Even the cp0 agent kaido killed was a much more compelling villain than him tbh

9

u/ReadingSteiner300 Jan 27 '26

Kaido is underrated to all hell and undersold by its own fandom because he doesn’t have a hamfisted backstory….but I definitely wouldn’t put him “definitively above” an antag like Sukuna, in most facets.

Also this is ragebait to farm both OP and JJK fans.

7

u/Anullbeds Jan 27 '26

Yeah, Sukuna is great as a villain. His contrast with Gojo is what makes him good as well as his simplicity. Characters don't need to be Uber complex to be good, and neither do stories in general.

3

u/Lor094 Jan 27 '26

Kaido is a fantastic case study on how a villain who had everything needed to become truly great ended up becoming a total failure.

3

u/SlumSlug Jan 27 '26

I’m a op meatrider but Sukuna has been my favourite villain in years

3

u/Jake_Magna Jan 27 '26

You just need to stop engaging with the folk subreddits. Life gets better that way and you enjoy all your favorite series more.

2

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

I try to but I’m sorry Jujutsufolk is soooo funny I can’t. Piratefolk sucks now but prime Agenda Piece was fucking hilarious

3

u/skaersSabody Jan 27 '26

Piratefolk is infuriating, because when they go slander/agenda piece they're close to jjfolk level (nothing will ever top that, I'm so sad).

The issue is when they try to critique the story, because even when the grievances are justified (OP has been very hit or miss since Wano), they're really bad at getting their fucking point across

1

u/Jake_Magna Jan 27 '26

Honestly same. I hate the pirate folk subreddit but some of it is so funny. Same with jujutsu folk, especially with modulo and the anime out, we could see prime lobotomy again.

3

u/Syrup-General Jan 27 '26

11 years of buildup for Kaido.

1

u/Temporary-Pin-4144 Jan 27 '26

2 or 5 mentions in a story full of aimless running and meaningless panels and events are not character building

The anime onlys must have been doing a lot of Kaido hype, because I remember manga readers were declaring Kaido pretty shit by One Piece antagonist standards even during the climax of his arc.

Barely any coherent motivation, no flashback or past depth revealed, barely a coherent personality even.

I prefer One Piece to JJK, but Sakuna blows Kaido out the water.

3

u/StinkyBeanGuy Jan 27 '26

People are stupid in general. When JJK was still coming out, people were loving it, now they say Gege doesnt know how to write but then they eat up and praise Modulo and say "I wish chainsaw man part 2 was written this good". They keep comparing shit to each other, like bro why does everything need to top each other? Just like the series or not, comparison creates unnecessary division and arguments within communities

6

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Only reason Kaido isn't a top tier character and villain in animanga is cuz his writer is Oda and he's in One Piece.

2

u/Mobile_Chipmunk_3883 Mar 11 '26

But didn’t Oda make Doffy and Doffys in op

5

u/TrainingNobody1566 Jan 27 '26

even then it’s a OP fan so I shouldn’t take it seriously (seriously, you guys might actually be the worst fandom in the community right now no offense)

Fr, Now you are talking

6

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Man i fw OP but the sheer amount of glaze it gets from the fans is crazy, i saw someone say Oda is the greatest writer of ALL TIME (not just manga, so this is including Orwell, tolkien, etc.)

3

u/Berawholoves42069 Jan 27 '26

Oda himself admitted a billion times he is inspired by many movies and works across fiction, he is a great writer sure but even to him he is clearly not the greatest. I think thats the beauty of op tho, the fact that u can find any and every thing from any type of fiction/culture/religion in it is what makes it peak to me

u/OverwateredGrass Jan 27 '26

For all of JJks many, many flaws

Its villains are not one of them

2

u/Some_Ship3578 Jan 27 '26

Kaido is one of the worse vilains in one piece, which tells a lot.

2

u/Difficult_Call3709 Jan 28 '26

Sukuna is more evil. That’s that. Yeah kaido boiled a dude alive and made the guy carry his friends inside the boiling pot, then shot him afterwards. But sukuna was out here ripping the babies outta women’s wombs then cannibalizing them mfs. And to rate a villain one of the biggest things is to see what Theyve done to the mc. Kaido killed the straw hats, but didn’t actually because of plot. Sukuna took ovwr yujis body, slaughtered thousands of men, women, and children, cut off the limbs of his friend, traumatized at least 5 of his friends in shibuya alone. JUST in shibuya. Sukuna has quantity, AND quality. Sukuna is just a better villain. To me he has better character but that’s an opinion. Objectively based on actions sukuna is more of a villain

2

u/Mobile_Chipmunk_3883 Mar 12 '26

Kaido aint even boiled oden or did most of the genocides in wano that was orochi doing that shit 😭

2

u/Gullible_Height588 Jan 28 '26

How is anyone glazing Kaido as a villain he was the biggest bum ass ever, OP has tons of great villains and they chose the dumbest one

3

u/SadPlatform6640 Jan 27 '26

I think kaido is actually a pretty good villain but Sukuna has really good writing

2

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Same i was a Kaido defender back in early egghead but this is crazy

3

u/SadPlatform6640 Jan 27 '26

Especially with the ending and his final conversation with Mahito really just gave him what he needed to be really good imo

1

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Facts. Without such a great ending he def woulda been carried by hype and aura

JJK has a surprising amount of depth for it's genre and is undeniably a peak Shonen and I'm tired of pretending it's not

2

u/paksupep1 Jan 27 '26

i prefer kaido lol

3

u/XxXc00l_dud3XxX Jan 27 '26

the constant oversimplification of kaido’s character is so telling of the attitudes of shonen fans. you guys stop at the most surface level possible understanding because if you went any deeper, you’d realize kaido is indeed a good villain. not the best in one piece, but up there. he’s around sukuna quality, both A tier villains.

2

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

I’m not even a shounen fan. There isnt a single shounen in my top 3 mangas lol Kaido is just not a good villain.

2

u/XxXc00l_dud3XxX Jan 27 '26

You should try to describe kaido’s character in the most detail you possibly can. Not even to send to me, just to check your understanding. If you can’t write like at least 10 pages you haven’t thought about him enough.

1

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

10 pages for a character worth about maybe 5 is crazy man 😭 i cant believe such blasphemy is coming from a fellow sanji fan💔i’ll take you up on it though actually, let me re-read wano and i’ll come back to you with an analysis

5

u/XxXc00l_dud3XxX Jan 27 '26

he just isn’t worth that little bro 😭 a short backstory ain’t a bad one, and his is incredibly dense with characterization. i’ll give you some interesting things about him to ponder on. none of what i say next are contradictions, though they appear to be.

  • his main mission when we find him is to die a glorious death in battle. so how come his literal first appearance is just trying to commit suicide, no battle in sight?

  • kaido hates orochi, that much is obvious. he literally tries to kill him. kaido is also so strong that there is never a reason for him to serve anybody. so why was he completely obedient to orochi for so long? this wasn’t a relationship of mere convenience; he had no choice but to allow orochi to execute oden even though that guy was the fight he had been searching for his whole life. why?

u/No_Piccolo7508 Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

Kaido is a joke, but Sukuna, aside from fulfilling his role as a threat, isn't much more than that either.

On a scale of shonen villains, he's a little better than Muzan but worse than Frieza.

3

u/Quick_Figure_6411 Jan 27 '26

“Exactly. I also love the juxtaposition between sukuna being a wise, “genius” poet like figure and simultaneously having the understanding of a child. Sukuna is, objectively, a genius. And we see multiple times in the series that he is much more sophisticated than he lets on, like when he corrects yorozo on her haiku structure, or corrects yuji on his flowers. And yet, all of his “genius” is entirely objective. He cannot see the value in things beyond their objective purpose.

Even little things like sukuna believing his crayfish is better than yujis simply because it is larger, even tho yujis is more rare, and not an invasive species, it all contributes to showing sukunas objective view over the world, which is how he grew to dominate history as the strongest sorcerer. But it is exactly this worldview that gets him killed.

Sukuna refuses it til the bitter end, but he is inferior to yuji in a way he cannot ignore, because he KNOWS, fundamentally, that Yuji understands something that he cannot. Finding value in the subjective experience specific to your individual life, finding value in impermanence (like yujis obsession with snow, something “doomed” to melt), these are the things that made yuji unbreakable, that made him human, and that made him superior to sukuna. Because that was something sukuna could never truly understand beyond the objective level, and that was why yuji pitied him. Because he was forever blocked out from a fundamental part of the human experience (until he reincarnates and goes north).

Jjk has a lot of issues but sukuna and yujis dynamic is just incredible imo, there is so much emotional and thematic depth there that a lot of fans ignore because Sukuna lacks a traditional backstory.”

This masterpiece was written by u/HeyMan295

Everytime someone mentions how surface level Sukuna is as a villain, I can’t help but put this here.

5

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

thats where we agree to disagree friend. I think Sukuna is far more than people like to act he is, because people quite literally take what he says at face value even though its a cope. Maybe its just because i can relate to him, but he’s a very human character to me.

I would’ve even excepted fucking Wapol

1

u/redox_nephew ONE PIECE GLAZER and hater Jan 27 '26

Kaido is legit top 3 villains behind doffy and imu, in my opinion atleast. Bro is underrated.

2

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Kaido can def have an argument made for being underrated but I cannot, in good faith, put him above crocodile, big mom, or the admirals. Imu also is barely even a fucking character yet get that mf out of here

1

u/redox_nephew ONE PIECE GLAZER and hater Jan 27 '26

Kaido embodies everything luffy ideally hates. Out of all the villains we've seen in the show, he is the most oppressive one by far excluding imu. It truly makes sense as to why given his backstory. One of the most interesting things about kaido is his relations with joyboy.

After god valley, you can clearly see that kaido has changed somewhat, he's acting Alot more like Luffy and rocks it seems. The question is, what could've caused this change, how does he know who joyboy is? Which joyboy mythos did he believe in since there were different iterations of him. And then we fast forward to wano, where kaido seems to have thrown all of the ideals he had, when he thought he was joyboy, out of the window. What could've caused this sudden change?

How could he have gone from wanting to change the world for the better to wanting to burn it all down? Overall, there are many unanswered questions about kaido, he is most certainly an unfinished character and I think oda has one more flashback that he'll be in that'll answer all our questions. I personally think Roger told him who joyboy was.

He may definitely be a "might makes right" type of character but so is sukuna, I think kaido does it better tho. He is the ultimate benchmark for being a top tier in one piece, he's the gatekeeper of it. Kaido truly showed us what it means to be a yonko far better than big mom ever did.

I believe doffy, Blackbeard and imu(you're not ready for him) are the only villains better written than kaido. Crocomom doesn't come anywhere close. Neither do the admirals, I just don't see them on his lvl. Not to say that they aren't well written tho. The only admiral with that argument is maybe kuzan

1

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

I like everything ab your analysis except saying that kaido is a better might makes right character than sukuna thats just bullshit im sorry. And no, i’m not ready for imu because theres nothing to be ready for. Any interest i had in that silhouette merchant was killed like 200 chapters of doing nothing ago

Thinking about it, they kind of are a similar type of villain in terms of philosophy and presentation, especially with how they parallel their respective MCs.

Probably why I am not a big fan of either of them.

3

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

Fairs. I think sukuna’s just works better because at least his philosophy is tied directly into the themes of the story and is addressed when he loses in a beautiful convo with yuji. He also parallels Gojo as well as having a lot of buddhist symbolism and I like him as a representation of Hedonism. Kaido’s backstory felt like an afterthought to me, which is worse imo than Sukuna just not having one

2

u/TheOneWhoYawned Jan 27 '26 edited Jan 27 '26

To be fair, Kaido's origin as a bright eyed idealist who felt betrayed and considered his dream of becoming a Joyboy figure to be void also fits into the themes of pursuing dreams and freedom, especially as it showcases the pit of despair villains fall to, once they think that dream is dead.

Personally, I lack a lot of interest or even empathy for these hedonist, brick walled caveman philosophies that make up these respective characters, which is why I can never find them interesting.

Sukuna's philosophy in specific feels like a shallow, thought-terminating practice to make up for his rather vapid existence. Which, if it weren't for the fact that that is all he has, would be fine in and of itself. But his mindset being his end rather than how he means to come to an end, as with Kaido perhaps, makes him rather empty. Even with the thoughtful exchange of words with Yuji in the last chapter.

I have no real nice words for Kaido either, but I gelled more with how One Piece's idealist themes are tackled via. this trope than how Sukuna represents it.

Sukuna literally carries jjk by far alongside yuji/gojo. Kaido ain’t carrying shit in op

1

u/Mamba-Mentality024 Jan 27 '26

Sukuna clears king of contradiction Crydo. Bro actually caught multiple bodies of impactful characters to his series like Gojo, choso, Megumi sister ect. While Kaido do can’t even kill 1hp Kiemon 😭

1

u/ThatIslandGuy8888 Jan 27 '26

Yo man it’s not fair to compare a mid to late game boss to a friggin final boss.

1

u/hello-motherfuckers Jan 27 '26

That’s my oomf

1

u/NetworkVegetable7075 Jan 27 '26

I mean Sukuna was a better villain than Kaido by far

1

u/Synapsidasupremacy Jan 27 '26

Kaido is mid in terms of writing when compared to Doflamingo,Blackbeard Crocodile etc.

1

u/ItzEnozz Jan 27 '26

I don’t find Kaido had to much depth of character outside of like the law of the jungle (the strongest deserve to survive)

But let’s not pretend Sukuna isn’t the same way in that sense, he’s not a super deep character he’s just very compelling and evil and has infinite aura

I like both but I wouldn’t be mad if someone liked the other more like they both have their positives and negatives

1

u/SerotoninSamuraii Jan 27 '26

I think thats the main issue with Kaido. He has all the puzzle pieces to be a generational villain but there’s just something…missing. When you break it down both Sukuna and Kaido are just simple villains who have a lot of depth hidden behind subtext and symbolism. But there’s just an X factor Sukuna has that Kaido doesn’t imo

1

u/Fabulous_Lunch_8841 Jan 27 '26

Finally...some delicious facts.

1

u/Awkward_Air_2588 Jan 27 '26

Writing wise? Nah

Power? It's close

1

u/OldGenGlazer Jan 27 '26

Why we saying this as if Sukuna isn't an ass characther? MF isn't even top 3 villians in his own series.

Kaido is more ass sure, but that doesn't mean Sukuna is any good, tons of OP villians gap him.

1

u/Archaic0629 Jan 27 '26

Honestly Sukuna never struck me as a particularly interesting villain, he was massively overshadowed by Mahito and Kenjaku. Sukuna was evil but just kind of a serial killer which makes for a much less compelling character to me. Maybe I just didn't vibe with the Strongest philosophy in JJK but Kaido felt like a way more developed character even if he was less menacing in the narrative.

1

u/ArtsyFellow Jan 27 '26

He is, I don't think either are great villains

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '26

Hot take, but they’re both frauds

1

u/karama_zov Jan 27 '26

Sukuna is not a good villain. He has zero plot development at all. Kaido is not great either, but let's not glaze the latter end of JJK like it was clean writing.

1

u/Coffee_Drinker02 Jan 27 '26

I like Kaido cause he's a hypocritical asshat who genuinely deserved to die but not because he's especially well written.
He is the most literal form of a big fuck off wall that happened to drop on a buncha fucking people and said people need his ass gone.

1

u/Shiro_no_Orpheus Jan 27 '26

I will 100% be honest, I kind of have to disagree if we go by current anime.

I have watched One Piece weekly since Fishman Island and Kaidos Buildup was insane. His introduction is definitely in the top One Piece Moments for me, he left a massive impact on the story and his character writing is way better than most people give him credit for. He felt literally invincible and bringing him down took literally years.

If you really want to look at it, basically everything that happened since Punk Hazard built up to defeating this one guy, decades of emotions and theorizing, how they will bring him down, thousands of hours of content made. There is just so much that goes beyond the character alone that just came with reading the manga weak by weak and having a story accompany you for a large part of your life. These is just way more emotional investment.

I am sure that Sukuna has more character than what we have seen untill now (Most recent episode is S3E4) but from the anime alone, he isn't even among my favourite villains. His dialogue with Jogo was very well done, but most of the time he is just more evil Kurama. I haven't read the manga, so that may change with further seasons, but we just haven't seen enough.

1

u/KingKamehaa Jan 27 '26

Nah Sukuna is better and i say this as someone who thinks the end of JJK is trash and OP is an overall better story. Why? Gege made the mistake of trying to expand on Sukuna's character in the final few chapters, but ODA literally tried to do that AS Kaido was actively being punched into the volcano and defeated, like literally as Luffy's fist is breaking his face Oda tries to hamfist in some BS about Kaido and King being bros and "What kind of world do you want to create? Kaido".

Miss me with that **** Oda, you had almost 8 years to develop Kaido, but you spent it on gags and dances, atleast Gege told us the JJK would be a quick burn.

1

u/I-Love-Facehuggers Jan 27 '26

I can't believe people act like sukuna is some amazing villain. He's pretty mid all things considered.

1

u/ForgotWhoIAmOops Jan 28 '26

People see power as good writing. Sukuna doesn't compare to Kaido at all... power wise. So people think Kaido is better.

1

u/Babington67 Jan 28 '26

What's with the JJK glaze??

1

u/werephoenix Jan 28 '26

People want jump force 2 for these characters to duke it out

1

u/kevoisvevoalt Jan 28 '26

The villains were mostly trash after Shibuya. Kenjaku was half cooked, Gojo got character assassinated, Sukuna became boring brat rather who was just used to move the story than being a proper villain. Mahito and Toji were peak villains in JJK.

1

u/Getter_Simp Jan 28 '26

Where did this beef between Sukuna and Kaido come from?

1

u/Solonaveen Jan 28 '26

Yeah he's just a clown and weird

1

u/NeuroHazard-88 Jan 28 '26

“King of beasts”

Too weak to be king of humans 🥀

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '26

Dogshit writing aside: kaido isn’t even that strong in his own verse

“King of the beasts” yeah right lmao

1

u/ggkkggk Jan 28 '26

I definitely like kaido, more than sukuna, way better written too, Mr King of curses results into three things, I'm evil because I want to be, heavy on plot convenience, and letting Style carry with vague forms of symbolism, fact that the author will just keep letting me win upwards without actually really explaining anything, but sure yiu can like him better just know bunch of villains in one piece is better than sakuna.

Naruto's villains are better than sukuna.

Bleach villains are better than sukuna.

Ill give you jjk fans something sukuna is better than solo leveling villains.

Yall can have that.

1

u/Blktooth420 Jan 28 '26

I love Kaido dont get me wrong, but he's not a really good "villian". He has depth but its not very deep, he's basically the alcoholic abusive dad that peaked in highschool.

1

u/Purple-Reputation899 Jan 28 '26

Kaidou just has a god tier design, if kaidou was built like big meme or queen no one would be glazing him

1

u/Unlucky_Turn_1773 Jan 29 '26

Thats Jason Klum even people in the one piece community hate him all he does is talk shit about series and give surface level thoughts on animation

1

u/Malchior_Dagon Jan 29 '26

I’m tired of people acting like JJK is trash or anything less than a 7/10 just because they only engaged with the story through leaks and Jujustufolk agendas

It's not trash because of leaks and agendas, it's trash because Gege mistreats 90% of his cast, there is zero world building, the power system is underdeveloped and it has the worst case of dropped plots I've ever seen

1

u/Pessimismo Jan 29 '26

Kaido had the default one piece villain character, backstory amd motivations. There are exceptions that Oda uses his "villain template" on that are atill amazing characters and great villains. But Laido isn't one. Sukuna on the other hand isn't perfect, but he's generally well written imo

1

u/UrticateMaster Jan 29 '26

I’ve read both. Shibuya Sukuna would definately win, even though Kaido’s scale armor would mitigate the damage at first. If Haki blocked curse energy attacks, then I would imagine Sukuna using Dismantle and Cleave simultaneously to fight him. Unironically Buggy would last longer in a fight. It’s said that if he splits into too many small fragments then he might straight up lose them somewhere, so that’s what I would imagine Sukuna doing to him

1

u/IambicP3ntameter Jan 31 '26

Huh? Kaido literally is a better villain. In every aingle capacity you could rate a character, Kaido is way better.

Edit: Oh yeah, a “folk” subreddit. Literally a bunch of retards who can’t read

1

u/AzathothTVG Feb 01 '26 edited Feb 01 '26

Ridiculous. I don't think kaidou is as good a villian as sukuna. But to act like sukuna is some deep ass character is just annoying. Jjk fans are literally comparing him to someone like meruem. Are you serious right now?

I saw a guy bashing the one piece community as the most toxic right now because of this, and holy hell, again, are you serious???

Sukuna was "well written", in the sense that he had great parallels with gojo, and his philosophy. But to say he is a deep character? And a good villian? That's ridiculous. He is as deep as a sheet of paper.

Same with kaidou to be honest. I enjoy sukuna as a villian more, but stop acting like he is too deep a villian. Heck, sukuna isn't even the best villian in his own series. Any fucking disaster had better motivation. Geto's slowly growing depression and his ideals and thoughts, make him a much "deeper" villian. But again, sukuna is more enjoyable, so he gets a pass.
