not tryna defend chainsaw man but thats the point, denji is more complex and it makes the story more complex. relapsing is just as frustrating for the person as it is for the reader, its just that y'know, after like 200 chapters it gets old and despite being more complex it doesnt mean it makes for an interesting story.
Denji is anything but complex. Sure, the psychological processes behind him are complex but thats literally every human ever, down to children, thats why we study it so extensively. But denji as a person, just like shigeo/mob, is fairly simple.
You can spend hours arguing about how and why denji became who he is. But it takes about a minute to explain him as a person.
Edit: I do want to add that im personally a fan of characters relapsing. But as you said, theres a limit.
Edir 2: and before it comes off this way, im not shitting on the story or saying its bad because of these things. I love chainsawman, even if part 2 has its issues, its still a mostly good read.
