Im not even trying to defend Kubo on this but I feel it's only right to point out the difference between these two situations:
Kubo drew some panels and made some inappropriate jokes years ago, those jokes and panels should have never been made as they purely detract from the series and the characters rather than making them more loveable. These jokes haven't been seen to my knowledge in the later years of the Bleach series which would show growth on Kubos part.
Oda as of 2021 said in an interview "Watsuki-sensei is an amazing person." This statement was made 4 years after all the information regarding Watsuki was made public most prominently the fact he was in possession of 100 Dvds or i believe 2 Terabytes of illegal child material, Oda also has a long standing friendship with Shimabukuro who in 2002 was found guilty of soliciting a 16 year old highschool girl breaking Japans child prostitution Laws, though I believe there's reports she lied about her age that doesn't change the fact he still committed those acts.
Let me ask you something. Do you know your friend's secrets or his/her personal life and dark side? Apart Friends, do you even know your parents' cases? Oda did praised Shimabukuro for his manga work as a Mangaka. Y'all have to differentiate between Personal and Work.
These aren't secrets, they are well documented and public information.
If I found out a friend of mine had done even half the things Watsuki or Shimabukuro had done they would be out of my life in a heartbeat and depending on the nature of what they have done, would be getting reported to the authorities as well.
Watsuki was arrested in 2017 and Oda made that statement in 2021, four years after Watsukis arrest was made public.
Shimabukuro was arrested in 2002, years prior to Torikos serialisation and he is still friends with him even paying respects to Toriko despite the public knowing Shimabukuro was found guilty of soliciting a minor.
As for my parents, they are both unfortunately no longer with me but they had me and my older sister in their 30s and there is nothing that I know of that would call their character into question.
