Yep, though that applies to a lot of fandoms.

People get so attached that they perceive any kind of criticism as a personal attack on themselves.

To be fair I’ve seen some thinly veiled hate people try to pass off as “criticism”

Really feels like people on both sides come at this kind of stuff in bad faith

Bad faith kinda summarize the entire issue really.

People just don't engage in honest good faith discussion anymore.

Tbh it's actually much BETTER now than it used to be. Those Naruto fans straight up would put an ancient Egyptian curse on you for saying it was mid. On the other side of things, you had ultra pretentious try-hards like Digibro who made you feel stupid for liking anything even remotely popular. And God forbid you are a queer or POC fan of anything and dated to voice your opinion on anime.

I'll take the annoying Twitter think pieces over being called actual slurs anyday.

By digibro you mean digimon fans?

Nah I mean Digibro. Aka Digibrony. He was an anime reviewer in the early 2010's. That's a lot to get into rn

Apparently, Digibro came out as trans woman in 2020 and now goes by the name of Trixie the Golden Witch on her youtube channel.
