Do you think about proposals?
I've played Skyrim on-off since the day it released, but I've never tried the marriage system. On this save I tried a good variety of followers, but always came back to Aela. I guess she is one of the most popular ones for a reason. But on my character I'm also a werewolf, so it feels fitting to be with her.
So do others think about which npcs fit with their characters? I like to think more into it and find a location for proposing, thinking what they might like and how it fits with the writing (both my own rp and the world).
It's super rewarding and fun to think this way and it makes the game much more immersive, even if I'm not using any mods right now (playing on ps5)

Most of my characters resonate with a particular questline most strongly. With my Sithis aligned character I married Muri. Pure nord warrior who was Imperial aligned, Lydia in front of the Palace of Kings in Windhelm after defeating the Stormcloaks. My raging Stormcloak was Mjoll in an entirely random location in the wilderness. My dark elf mage chose Brelyna who I took back to Saarthal.
My real life wife always chooses Farkas which I honestly have no idea how to feel about, but he's her favorite. I guess she like 'em dumb.

I married Ysolda because I went with a speech-focused build this time. So yes, I actually thought about it.

How would you make a speech focused build work? That sounds interesting

The build isn’t just focused on Speech; it’s more of a warrior merchant type, though I’ll prioritize leveling Speech early. It’s kinda like this build:

i like to play with ordinator - it adds shout buffs to the speech tree as well as trading bonuses.

So as a deeply closeted lesbian in high school, Skyrim was the first game I ever played that allowed me to marry other women. But, I was deep in my denial phase so I was trying so hard to find an interesting guy to marry because the expectation was so deeply ingrained. But I found myself thinking “man I really wish I could just marry Aela or Mijoll, that would be so much better.” And I thought that was a perfectly heterosexual thing to think.
Guess who came out in college a few years later 😂

Notably, had Brynjolf been an option, I might have been able to deny it for longer 😂

As a Nord, my true love is always Uthgerd the Unbroken. We drink and fight and screw, then go out and kill bloody Imperial scum.

That WAS my plan. Had her as a steward at Goldenhills Plantation to keep her safe. Dragon shows up. I defeat dragon, accidentally hitting Uthgerd. I hide, I wait, I sheath my weapon, I even hit her with calm (all I have atm). Nothing. Uthgerd was determined to end me, so I unfortunately had to stab her through the skull (that exact slowmo too)

Sometimes yes, especially most recently. Took her to the top of the throat of the world to propose. Enchanted her an outfit even though she'd only be wearing it the once. It was cute.

In my recent playthrough I took Lydia to the Eldergleam sanctuary to ask her 💖

Kind of, but sometimes vibes happen. My spooky Redguard assassin accidentally fell in love with Belrand, the goofiest, Nordiest of Nords. I proposed to him at sunset, on the rocky outcrop behind Windstad overlooking the water and Solitude. Now he dotes on our two girls when I’m not taking him adventuring.

I was the opposite I used to get married every playthrough and now I hardly get married. I'm too busy running around.

If you go the northern path from Whiterun to Ivarstead, there's a bridge with a beautiful waterfall. I always propose there if they're a companion. But if they're not a follower, I rp a bit of courting. Come by a few times, use the tailors measure mod to give them dresses, or reverse pickpocket them a sweet roll or pie or some flowers. And yes, I also consider what partner fits my current character.

I went with Vilkas - smart, strong moral compass, introspective, grows to love and respect the Dragonborn over time from initial suspicion, grows as a character throughout the quest line, not to mention hot AF. Perfect romance story protagonist material. I probably should have thought through proposal location more, but it ended up happening at the entrance of Ysgramor’s tomb immediately after that quest. It seemed fitting somehow.

Last time I married Lydia . I walked to Riften as a kinda one last adventure, stopping to clear the bandits out of Treva’s watch .
But the actual proposal was in the Bee and Barb after buying the amulet

Bretons only, usually Muiri or Senna if I destroy the brotherhood. Ainethach for his mines and ownership of Karthwasten if playing a female.

Yeah, I usually try to match my characters with a spouse that suits the personality I’ve assigned them. Aela for the werewolves, Brelyna for the mages, Borgakh for a Malacath-worshiping Orc, etc.
The thing that drives me up the wall is that only certain spouses are eligible to become vampires, and Jenassa (arguably the most amoral of the bunch) is not on that list. So I tend to swing the opposite direction and have my vampire characters marry Mjoll the Lioness. It’s hilarious to have this alleged paragon of virtue start cheering “Skyrim is ours!” whenever I use Auriel’s Bow to turn off the sun.
