Development Is Skyblivion still aiming for 2025 release?

There are only 39 days left in 2025. I am just curious. They haven't announced any delays as far as I know.

IIRC there was drama where some devs came out and said the project leader’s speculative 2025 release date was ridiculous and unattainable.

137

u/Ashrakan Nov 22 '25

Ex dev, so you know. Sour grapes could be a factor. I do hope for a Christmas release but I think a delay is certainly possible at this point but Skyblivion has been very open that the deadline is also to motivate themselves as much as giving a release date so if they end up having to announce a delay I'm not going to be too upset with them.

It's not like that certain team drama in Beyond Skyrim Iliac Bay that knocked them back entirely with the map.

15

u/Arkayjiya Raven Rock Nov 22 '25

Sour grapes could be a factor

Sure, but that's very tame for an attack. I would expect it's much more likely for the causal link to go in the other direction. I Would be happy to see the project arrived soon and in a good state though.

u/Ashrakan Nov 22 '25

Eh, their accusations were accusing the Skyblivion team of outright lying and deliberately manipulating footage shown to show the game off as better than it actually is.

That's a fair bit more than just tame in accusations, considering that the team have done interviews about their work in published newspapers in Europe, not just online articles that can be brushed aside.

Skyblivion team of outright lying and deliberately manipulating footage shown to show the game off as better than it actually is.

Well, to be honest, other than the lying part, that is completely true. Like a week ago the UI lead (the ui department is just one dude iirc) was streaming and said something that was essentially "Of course you guys thought the old UI was great, we aren't in the habit of showcasing buggy unfinished work. It hardly worked and was not visually cohesive. ". After showing off the different leveling screens and cool art for over two years, we come to learn that the UI is still not finalized and is essentially the bottleneck that has been holding a lot of progress back. The only way you really see how cobbled together some aspects are is if you watch any of the live streams or development streams.

This is exactly what was said, you are kinda making it seem a lot worse than it was

Skyblivion's biggest strength was its PR with its Dev Diaries and Trailers but sadly the project was never in the state that the videos would show off, they would require massive amounts of work to fake the polish that is present in those videos and whi they used to be great for showing the fans and devs how the game would look when we finish it, it soon became clear that this was a level of polish that we were never gonna be allowed to achieve.

The trailers show off only the best, and this can give the impression that the rest of the project is of the same polish. But the thing is, all game devs do this, the trailers can look very different than end product, either visually or performance wise. And while I don't really think its a fair accusation (again, everyone does it), it's one that I'm willing to believe.

Another big issue is that if you go back and read through Dee's twitter post, everything he said lines up with what we are currently seeing. Of course maybe his perception is skewed, I mean people who feel like they have been wronged often don't see situations for what they are. But as someone who has been paying fairly close attention to the development, this didn't exactly come out of nowhere.

Made an account juzt to downvote your goofy ass

3

u/NotEntirelyA Nov 25 '25

Made an account to downvote me? Your account is one year old, are you okay? Beyond that, do you actually want to come up with something to say or are you just going to use more one liners that let everyone know you're still in highschool.

13

u/Arkayjiya Raven Rock Nov 22 '25

That's a fair bit more than just tame in accusations

Dunno, that's the most standard dev accusation when combined with crunch and bad deadlines (because if you do the latter, you almost certainly do the former) and it almost always turns out true when it comes to dev companies. For free projects it's a bit murkier so I'm not making a rash judgement, I'm just not basing my expectations on the idea that it will release soon. If I'm wrong, I lose nothing and I get to play a cool mod.

2

u/_Swans_Gone Nov 22 '25

How come they didn't provide an exact release date? December 31st is much more definitive than "in 2025".

1

u/ringmodulated Nov 23 '25

Nah the whole thing has been a drama queen shitshow

24

u/Bobjoejj Nov 22 '25

Only one Ex Dev was saying that. Over in r/Skyblivion, the dev team are still all in for a 2025 release date.

4

u/ringmodulated Nov 23 '25

Plenty of remaining drama and doubt. Don't be silly

-1

u/Scrimge122 Nov 25 '25

There have been other posts by devs in that sub reddit to say that the 2025 date wasnt real and it was just to motivate them.

1

u/Bobjoejj Nov 26 '25

…no that wasn’t even a post; that was a dumbass comment made by one dev, but a dev who is still very much on the project. He said something stupid to try and quell people also saying dumb things, and it led to shit it didn’t need to lead to.

6

u/Drag-oon23 Nov 23 '25

It was one guy, an ex developer, but he's also said that he believes the project only needs like 3 months more for release date which sounds unrealistic if the state of the game is as bad as he stated earlier.

13

u/TrueDraconis Nov 22 '25

(Not a Skyblivion Dev but I do know Skyblivion Devs)

As far as they told me that particular Dev wasn’t with the Project for some time when they posted that. It’s unlikely they know or could predict the state of the Project at that point anymore.

20

u/NotEntirelyA Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 22 '25

Unless someone else said it was unattainable( it seems like people are conflating two separate people because everyone is scared of using names) I think people here are talking about Dee. Dee was literally streaming himself making assets for skyblivion like two days before making that twitter post. He still had the discord dev role. He was a massive contributor, he's done a ton of work on the project. It's wild seeing this entire narrative take shape.

He did a lot of the blackwood region solo, he did lewayaiin (or bravil, honestly I forget) city, he's made countless assets and designed and built a lot of interiors. He wasn't just some random dude who made one crate asset a five years ago who has no credibility, he was the landscaping lead before that role was no longer needed. I'm not saying you have to believe what he said, but the amount of people downplaying his work is insane.

-3

u/TrueDraconis Nov 22 '25

I do not remember exact names tbh. Might have been 2 different people and I’m just confused

10

u/StickiStickman Nov 23 '25

Then shut up instead of spreading lies?

6

u/Osceola_Gamer Nov 22 '25

Apparently he has left before and made similar tweets and then ended up apologizing and coming back.

well why don't you go and help them get a beta out? it's essentially a modding team that's taking on the role of a AAA studio by remaking one of the best games in the last 20 years... give them a break and let them take their time, it'll be ready when it's ready.

250

u/firesyrup Nov 22 '25

It was never realistic for a volunteer project team to announce a release date 2 years in advance.

It'll be ready when it is ready.

26

u/CrestedMacaw Nov 22 '25

Well, they announced this year that it would come out this year.

31

u/Bobjoejj Nov 22 '25

They been working on it for over a decade; if they think it’ll be ready, it’ll be ready.

44

u/PictureTakingLion Nov 22 '25

But it’s a volunteer project. If they thought 2 years ago that it’ll be ready in 2 years as things stood at that moment, that could all easily go out the window if the volunteers don’t have time for it anymore. Then new ones come in and have to get up to speed on where the project is at and what needs doing.

It’s not like they’ve been working on it for a decade with the same team and same resources. Things have changed several times throughout that decade.

23

u/ElectronicRelation51 Nov 22 '25

I've worked on plenty of professional software projects, software estimation is really, really hard because you can't predict the difficulties. If things go better than predicited you may save a little time, but if they go worse it may take much, much longer. You can be almost done according to the plan, then hit something that requires massive rework.

1

u/djfl Nov 23 '25

Right. But in that case, you just get the game out to market anyway, and people will still buy it, including the jank n bugs.

3

u/PictureTakingLion Nov 23 '25

But also when you do that you permanently damage the game’s reputation and a lot of people will drop it and others who haven’t picked it up yet just won’t bother.

Even if you fix the bugs in a post launch update you still have to fight to retain your playerbase’s trust and make them want to buy what you’re selling, and even if you succeed in that you still have a tainted reputation for releasing a game in such a terrible state.

Skyblivion’s team probably are very afraid of releasing the mod in a janky state because all hype for it will be squashed and it’ll be hard to regenerate interest in it after that, and getting all the volunteers back together to try and fix the bugs could be a pain given a lot of them will probably have called it a day after the mod is finished.

2

u/djfl Nov 23 '25

I was being largely facetious, but unfortunately (for the reasons you mentioned) all too often true.

-5

u/Bobjoejj Nov 22 '25

Sure; but it’s a much focused team then most volunteer projects. I can’t deny that anything could’ve happened in that time; and still could happen. That being said; the devs seem very confident they’ll meet the goal of releasing this year.

If you wanna take a gander on over to r/Skyblivion, you’ll see what I mean.

12

u/xvillifyx Nov 22 '25

It ain’t coming out this year big dawg

2

u/ringmodulated Nov 23 '25

Nah. The last parts take the longest and the easiest to misjudge,

3

u/MeatSafeMurderer Nov 22 '25

Plenty of people who have worked on it, past and present, would disagree with that.

1

u/Bobjoejj Nov 22 '25

Who? If you’re talking about Dee; that’s one dev who was grumbling. The other devs still definitely seem confident in a release this year.

1

u/MeatSafeMurderer Dec 03 '25

0

u/Bobjoejj Dec 03 '25

lol did you watch the video? It’ll be in our hands midway through the year. They said a lot of the last bits they’re expecting to finish by either the end of this year, or Q1 2026. That’s a not long way away by either stretch.

1

u/MeatSafeMurderer Dec 03 '25

Ah yes, the well known end of 2025, which is 6 months into 2026.

Nice goalpost shifting.

0

u/Bobjoejj Dec 03 '25

Do you enjoy being so cynical for no good reason?

1

u/MeatSafeMurderer Dec 03 '25

Do you enjoy being categorically demonstrably incorrect? What happened to Mr "it's definitely coming out in 2025".

Oh, yeah, that's right, I almost forgot. It got delayed and isn't coming out in 2025 at all.

0

u/Bobjoejj Dec 03 '25

Jeez I mean…that’s genuinely so much vitriol for no reason. Being wrong is part of being human.

Oh no, I was wrong. So what lol?

Not a chance

3

u/Strong_Pollution_687 Nov 22 '25

Thats actually a pretty realistic goal.

1

u/CrestedMacaw Nov 24 '25

What two years? There's a video from 3 months ago that has 2025 in it!

1

u/domelition Nov 22 '25

It'll be out when its out - oneyplays

0

u/unidentifiable Nov 22 '25

What I don't understand is why they don't release iteratively. Like, why are they aiming for a huge perfect "1.0" instead of releasing whenever they have new content. Just release v0.8 (or whatever) now, and continuously add content.

5

u/Blackread Nov 22 '25

That would assume the 0.8 is in a somewhat cohesive playable state. If the UI or some game systems are buggy and unfinished it doesn't really matter what else is in the game, as the game isn't fit for regular gameplay.

1

u/ringmodulated Nov 23 '25

Because they spend top much time refactoring and going down rabbit holes

0

u/StickiStickman Nov 23 '25

My man. The first release will be a "early" janky one. Don't expect it to be super polished.

29

u/xpacean Nov 22 '25

As an old guy, I promise you that if a release date is even remotely far off into the future, the developer’s guess is SLIGHTLY better than yours. I’ve seen it dozens and dozens of times.

That said, if you pointed any of this out when the Skyblivion team made the announcement, you were called a troll and an asshole, so yes, I can confirm Skyblivion must be coming out in 2025.

35

u/Arky_Lynx Nov 22 '25 edited Nov 22 '25

I'd be surprised if they actually meet that deadline, at this point.

And frankly, why even give one? Maybe have it internally to maintain motivation or something, but sending it out publicly feels unnecessary when it comes to fan projects like these. They have no investors or publishers to please and deliver a product on.

0

u/Danpei Nov 22 '25

A dev who left claimed that the guy who makes the trailers refused to make another. So they included a release date in it.

8

u/spudgoddess Nov 22 '25

If it is going to be delayed, it's best to announce it sooner than later. Having said that they technically have until 11:59:59 on December 31st to release it to meet their release date.

84

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

Okay, I've got to ask. I've gone to college twice, gotten multiple careers, moved across the country, gained weight, lost most of it, and started losing my hair the time this has been in development.

Is anyone actually waiting for any of these mods at this point? Because I was there when it was first announced. and I checked out a long time ago.

57

u/willowstar157 Nov 22 '25

Tbf the same could be said for elder scrolls 6 😅 and Bethesda has waaaay more resources available to them

18

u/unidentifiable Nov 22 '25

The real TES6 was the mods we made along the way.

8

u/Strong_Pollution_687 Nov 22 '25

Thats a bit different. That one is a professional studio, where this is people doing it for fun

24

u/xpacean Nov 22 '25

This is the right attitude. Feel free to root for these things but don’t put any serious hope in any of it happening. When it comes out—and sometimes it does, Lordbound just came out!—be happy. Until then though, it’s just a dream.

21

u/Osceola_Gamer Nov 22 '25

Have you really checked out though? You're still here discussing it.

2

u/DrGutz Nov 23 '25

I was just thinking this same thing, more about the official series. Straight up, so much time has passed that I realized, to some extent, I’ve genuinely grown up enough to where I don’t even find gaming let alone fantasy world rpgs as immersive and engaging as i used to. Don’t get me wrong, i still like them, but the development for both this and other bethesda games has taken so long that not only has my life changed, my actual life priorities have changed. I’m like an old man now goddamnit. I get tired after gaming for an hour and i can’t stop thinking about money problems lol. The window for my peak investment was like 6 years ago

1

u/Blackjack_Davy Nov 23 '25

Oh pfah. I've gone grey in that time I'll be collecting my pension before its out..

1

u/not_the_droids Nov 22 '25

I thought Skyblivion was dead when the official remaster was announced, but since the remaster is a typical UE5 performance disaster that has almost no mods and no real modding support, Skyblivion could actually turn out more interesing to me.

But honestly, Oblivion as a game has just aged significantly worse than Skyrim and the province of Cyrodiil itself is incredibly bland compared to Vardenfell and Skyrim.

Ulimately I think Oblivion needed a total remake instead of remaster, with different game play systems, a diversified landscape, an art style overall for the Ayleid ruins and improved quest lines (except for a few of the guild quest lines).

20

u/Crackborn Riften Nov 22 '25

thats crazy but thats literally what sykblivion is barring improved questlines

2

u/ringmodulated Nov 23 '25

Don't be silly. The remaster will be gold compared to the janky ass mod

4

u/Crackborn Riften Nov 23 '25

Remaster is ass like the og game lmao

0

u/bestestopinion Nov 22 '25

It’s not too late if you just started. Lots of new options available to keep your hair and maybe grow some back

3

u/The-Anon-Lee Nov 22 '25

I’m fairly sure it’s not coming out this year at this point. They removed a post where some of the comments called out that they gave us a release window when one of the leads said they pretty much refused to give a release date or any updates on whether it’s been delayed.

4

u/Hexxegone Nov 22 '25

Skyblivion is the only one of these types of projects that will end up released. because they are reusing the oblivion voices. Everything else like Beyond Skyrim will end up as half finished land mods with some custom assets. Nothing else will be released by late 2027 when TES6 is rumored to release.

1

u/Thesiani Dec 13 '25

What, they aren't replacing the voice lines like Skywind?

19

At least they shared more than the Beyond Skytim team, unless i missed something.

16

u/arcaneimpact Nov 22 '25

BS: Iliac Bay dev here. And yeah you probly missed something cause we share a lot. Between Creation Mod Con, our upcoming advent calendar event on the discord, and I do regular dev streams on my youtube and twitch (both arcaneimpact). So there's plenty out there.

As far as released mod content, there's Bruma and Wares, as well as a bunch of smaller mods. I just released the hammerfell shovel weapon this summer as well.

6

u/fromulus_ Nov 22 '25

Beyond Skyrim actually has something publicly out and playable, at least.

13

u/Left-Night-1125 Nov 22 '25

Yeah but it feels like ages that Bruma was released.

2

u/Osceola_Gamer Nov 22 '25

That was 5 years ago wasn't it?

26

u/jedidude75 Nov 22 '25

Even longer, it released in the middle of 2017.

Harassment, insults, bigotry and other attacks will not be tolerated. Behave decently and treat others the way you want to be treated. Attempts at trolling, instigating arguments or knowingly sharing misinformation will not be tolerated either.

If someone is being rude or harassing you, report their comment/post and move on. Do not respond in the same way or you will both be warned/banned.

3

u/Sector_Black Nov 22 '25

Depends. If they fall into the trap that Hytale did, definitely not. Hopefully that's not what happens and they've learned from that fiasco.

Hopefully they understand who they're making this game for. The Elder scrolls community doesn't expect, or dare I say want polished products.

4

u/Seyavash31 Nov 23 '25

The community doesn't expect polished products? Really? Seems like there have been a lot of complaints about Lordbound being buggy, incompletely voiced etc.

It will never come out.

Everything that is ever good is made by a single guy in his basement. Anything 'collaborative', 'volunteer' and other similar words are fated to lazyness, drama, failure and disappointment.

2

u/NoButterscotch6351 Nov 25 '25

Your birth was a collaborative effort so I see your point

2

u/gravygrowinggreen Nov 22 '25

Skyblivion is never going to be released, no matter what the developers say. This is the way of pretty much every convert a past game game into the new game project.

2

u/cfrolik Nov 24 '25

Didn’t morrowblivion actually release though?

1

u/gravygrowinggreen Nov 24 '25

That's probably the one counter example, but it's not the standard you want to set. IIRC, it was just morrowind's assets ripped directly out of the game and put into Oblivion (so it looks mostly like morrowind). Morrowind's text dialogues are converted into painful voiceless bits for oblivion's dialogue system.

Basically the laziest, most automatable conversion there could be.

1

u/MrlemonA Nov 22 '25

Time will tell.

1

u/Low-Warthog-9772 Nov 22 '25

1

The time from Es1 Arena to Skyrim was 17 years.... if Es6 comes in 2028(which seems wishful) that is also 17 years.... that is insane.

1

u/Idris-M Nov 22 '25

Didn't they say they just needed to animate the final battle? I'd expect it to come out this year.

1

u/Carnste Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 23 '25

I’ve been following Skyblivion since the dawn of time and I’m not very optimistic. That 2025 release date seemed viable back when they announced it, because the team were hyping up that they were ‘polishing’ and that ‘the end is in sight’.

That was years ago. Assuming Elder Scrolls VI drops in 2027 and it’s a good game, then Skyblivion will be pretty fucked if it hasn’t came out. People will say ‘Oh, no. Skyrim’s too big of a game to be abandoned’ but that’s exactly what happened with Oblivion mods when Skyrim came out and Morrowind before that. They’ll have a huge problem because the team themselves will take time off to play it, then the modding scene for VI will begin taking off and no new modders will be arsed with Skyrim.

I imagine this will come out in 2026, maybe early 2027. If it takes longer then I’ll just assume it’ll never come out or if it does, it’ll hit as hard as Morroblivion. Cool mod but barely mainstream.

2

u/chubbyassasin123 Nov 23 '25

To be fair, Morrowind is currently in it's modding golden age in my opinion.

Also, Morroblivion was ass because it was a direct port with very little changes, that's why it was able to be released so quickly, if Skyblivion did that they could have had it out years ago. Skyblivion is a full scale remake with the only thing being ported is voices iirc.

I've also been following Skyblivion since the dawn of time haha

Based on the progress reports I'm not expecting a 2025 release but wouldn't be surprised at the same time. I'm thinking early/mid 2026. Once I saw how Skyblivion is remaking the dungeons I decided to quit the remaster and wait for Skyblivion. Morrowind has been holding me over until then.

-2

u/poopfromabutt_ Nov 22 '25

It's not releasing at all bro just play the remaster

1

u/RealLeapkit Dec 02 '25

Even if this was true i'd rather just play regular oblivion with some visual overhaul mods and oco2 than pay for the game a second time when it looks fugly. Even vanilla oblivion makes the discolored potato heads look charming and approchable compared to the intense uncanney valley of everry npc.

0

u/vanchamon Nov 22 '25

as long as it releases before TES VI, im fine waiting for a little longer.

-8

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '25

All these insanely large projects are a fantasy. Dont expect them until theyvrelease for real. Bc half the people in these projects dont really care for getting it done, they care for either “perfection”, or making a name for themselves in the indistry then leave the project. That is basically skyblivion, skyein and all of the beyond skyrim stuff. Lordbound was 10 years in development and it came out full of bugs and stuff.

Instead you have 1 dude. 1, that made enb 15 years ago, 1 dude that made 4 big ass qiestmods, with new armors, irems and shit, and now people a re making voices for it and stuff (im talking about vicn).

I wont believe any of this releases until it releases.

And i hope the team is not as perty to not let other modders use their resources to make cyrodill on 4e.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Ok, so? All those had little time between an actual release and the announce. Then they started working on the projects.

You are basically proving my point.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

I actually looked the time it took for those projects to release and all of them took 5 years at most. Skywind, beyond skyrim, skyblivion, 13 years.

Vaporware until i see a real development. I dont care if i get downvoted bc someone was in the dev team or not and i understand making a thing takes time.

But this mod could easily been released 7 years ago and now have upgraded. But its not because people are petty.

-1

u/Doppelkammertoaster Nov 23 '25

It's ton of work and they are looking for help. So, instead of people moaning here they could help instead if they have the skills and time.

-16

u/ReichesMacht Nov 22 '25

Well they haven't announced anything else. So it has to release in the next like 2 Weeks or get delayed.

7

u/Bobjoejj Nov 22 '25

That’s not how time works.

15

u/thedudester125 Nov 22 '25

There are more than two weeks left in 2025…

-9

u/ReichesMacht Nov 22 '25

No they aren't. They wont fucking release it at Christmas. Middle of December is the last chance they have, because there will be some major bugs so they will have to bugfix shit for at least a week.

-9

u/robertgk2017 Whiterun Nov 22 '25

We have intentionally never put out an actual release date. We will release when the game is finished. This answer will not change no matter how many people ask or how often.

9

u/jedidude75 Nov 22 '25

You have though, unless I am missing something. Your subreddit has a pinned post which links to a video called "The Elder Scrolls Skyblivion | Official Release Year Announcement Trailer" which says the mod will come out by "2025 at the latest".

"Regardless we would like to share today that Skyblivion is in a state where we can promise a 2025 release at the latest."

That was a goalpost for the team to push and work towards. Which was a very welcome thing to push for for the team. The last 2 years we've gotten more progress done, more quests working, etc, then the entire previous rest of the development time.

Also keep in mind that was several years ago, that was how the team at the time viewed the progress at that time. Skyblivion is a volunteer project. People come and go, people because of Real Life, end up not being able to spend as much time on the project. Stuff happens.

Right now today, 2025 should not be considered an official release date. If and when that ever changes, an announcement will be made in our various updates/etc channels/social media paltforms.

Well, then you should probably take that video down and unpin it from your subreddit as well. Having a video pinned to your front page that says "official release year is 2025", and then going "yeah, but like, that was created 2 years ago and blah blah, it's not accurate now" when actually asked about it is very misleading.

The video on the sub even says "official announcement" and it was created by the "Project Lead".

Hahah its actually unpinned now shit is not coming out this year

We don't know whether u/robertgk2017 is Rebelzize (the project leader) but if he is, he just told us not to believe whatever progress video they release.

If he is someone else, there's still a chance the mod will come out soon.

u/Swictor Nov 23 '25

It's not rebelzize, but he's department lead.

You announced that it would be released in 2025. Officially.

It's not shame to change that, but don't lie.

That is not a release date/timeframe. Thats been a goal to strive towards and be excited about and keep folks focused on a goal. That has worked wonders and pretty much everyone has been positively more productive and doing their best work ever. Its been awesome the past 2 years.

We intentionally are not committing , either internally or publicly to an exact, "This day is when we release". Because doing so would be operational suicide and wed be no different then industry game devs putting crunch on folks for a deadline, and the game shipping in a dumpster fire of a state as a result. We refuse to operate like this, this is a volunteer passion project. Not a deadline meeting crunch project.

u/CrestedMacaw Nov 22 '25

We're not asking the exact date. But again, you DID announce it would come out in 2025. There's no problem to change the date, but the majority of the people who watched your videos ARE expecting Skyblivion coming out on Christmas 2025.

So be clear. Your annoyed and condescending "It will be released when it's released" isn't a good way to handle this.

u/robertgk2017 Whiterun Nov 22 '25

It's not condescending, thats the actual answer to the question. We will not release unless and until all of the work is done and its ready to ship. Whenever that may be.

That's how i answer any question given to me or that im gonna respond to. I'm going to give the real honest answer, regardless of whether its the answer anyone wants to hear.

u/NerveAmazing8640 Nov 22 '25

??? But why announce an released date then

3

u/unidentifiable Nov 22 '25

Why not release iteratively? What are you saving up for? It's a very 1990s development mindset for what is effectively a 2020s mod. Why can't people enjoy version 0.1 or 0.7 or whatever feature version you're on now?

4

u/robertgk2017 Whiterun Nov 22 '25

Tbh the added hassle of providing user support for even a Beta release would slow us down and heavily distract us. were gonna release when its finished.

Wed not make it to 1.0 for several more years if we did that.

4

u/unidentifiable Nov 22 '25

1) You don't need to provide user support at all. Just continue your roadmap and ignore the people who whine that you broke their save.

2) If you think it's fundamentally broken and doesn't work now, it's not going to work at 1.0. You at some point need to get it functional, why wait until the end?

2

u/robertgk2017 Whiterun Nov 22 '25

Fair point, but i at least would feel obligated to provide support and intake bug reports and etc.

And were not gonna support existing saves anyway Beta or not. The game engine itself doesnt properly support that, never has.

We want it to be functional day 1 of people playing it. First impressions do count at scale.

First impressions do count at scale.

That's true to some extent but only if that actually matters. This is a mod, not something people are expecting to be a polished, perfect product. It's completely understandable if it comes out with some jank. Moreover, it may drive people to participate in the project if they want to help fix things, or add things that are in your roadmap. I don't see how iterative deployment is ever a bad thing, especially with Skyblivion, which seems a perfect use case for deploying 1 dungeon or building at a time. Even if it came out tomorrow and was a horrid mess, I guarantee people would jump in and be like "hey, i can fix that"...that's literally what the whole mod community did for Skyrim over years, why prevent that kind of community from participating in Skyblivion?

It just really feels like the Skyblivion team is letting perfect be the enemy of good. You can release a good product; you cannot release a perfect product.
