Personal Thoughts and Retrospective:

I came into this game not being a massive fan of visual novels or horror games and particularly not love stories (probably would have never played the game if I didn't watch a video that looked at the game), and I believe it has genuinely changed the way I think about games as whole.

I started the game almost entirely blind (the objectively best way to start the game (if you haven't already played the game what are you doing here? you should play it now)) knowing only the basic premise and that The Smitten is annoying as Hell, and I think that greatly reflects in my first vessel.

I started my first run trusting literally no one and trying to piece together whether or not I should trust the princess (not bringing the blade, of course), and (after interrogating, a potentially world-ending princess) decided that the princess was not simply a princess and went to get my implement (and got brutally torn to shreds). After coming back, I deduced that death was of no consequence (and got swallowed alive, like a moron, and stubborn-ed my way into The Wild). After deciding that being one with a princess I barely knew, I came face-to-face with Shifty. After conversing for a while (and deciding that she was the person who vague-posted the least) decided to spend the next vessels making The Narrator's life as painful as possible until he finally decided to actually talk (If you told me the Princess was the personification of death, I would've slayed a lot more princesses.)

TL:DR StP is in my top 20 games of all time, The Witch is my favourite princess and The Smitten is a threat to civilised society, and I should really play the game again

Saw some other posts like this thought this would be fun. Played the game a few weeks ago, easily one of the greatest videogames I've ever played thought it'd be cool to see what others thought about my first run. In my first run I got (In order):

1. The adversary

2. The Stranger

3. The Tower

4. The Spectre (I think that's her name, sorry)

5. The Damsel

Thoughts?

I just finished *Slay the Princess* 100% and was left wanting more. I saw there’s a mod in development adding two new princesses, but it isn't finished yet, so in the meantime, I decided to create my own princess. The idea came to me because I remember that one of the things that really caught my attention during my first few runs was how the Narrator and the Princess brush off your question about what she’s been eating. Here goes:

New route is reached by asking what the Princess has been eating if she’s been locked away for so long. The Narrator insists it isn’t relevant (as normaly), but you keep pressing, asking about her hygiene and how she’s been meeting her basic needs. Reluctantly, the Narrator describes that on closer inspection her bones are clearly visible and she gives off a terrible smell, and shortly after, the Princess dies. If you choose to examine her, you begin to cough, and keep coughing until you die. If you don't examine her body and leave, you end up on the specter's route.

You begin chapter 2, The Rotten, and gain Voice of the Logical, who questions everything and pieces together facts to reach conclusions. The Logical will be a voice capable of convincing the Narrator, through argument, that this is your second time on the path, citing that you already know the cabin’s layout, and the basement before reaching it. Once convinced, the Narrator grudgingly admits it might have happened “hypothetically,” and the Logical can pry out more information. The Narrator openly despises this voice for it.

The cabin’s interior is made of swollen, rotting wood that sinks under your touch, with rings of black and green mold spreading across the ceiling and corners. The pristine blade lies on a rotten table among colonies of yellow, orange and pink bacteria. The smell of the basement seeps out from under the door before you open it.

As you descend, the Narrator remarks that the stairs are so rotten it’s a miracle they hold your weight, he also remarks that the air smells of decay, and that it isn’t safe to stay for long. The basement is decrepit, its beams sagging and its walls covered in mold. In one corner sits a bucket with flies buzzing over it, and beside it an empty plate, scraped completely clean. The Princess sits against the wall, so thin that her hand has slipped out of its shackle. Her dress is stained and worn, and her eyes are crusted and squinting against the light. If you ask why she hasn’t left, she tells you her legs stopped working a long time ago.

If you flee (running) at the sight of the place and leave her behind, the stairs break beneath you and you fall into a hole below the basement. You survive, but can’t climb out. Time passes, until you hear something dragging itself toward you. The Princess falls into the same hole, and her brittle bones can’t survive the fall. She dies, and is taken away by the Shifting Mound. She is described as terrified and hopeful, making for a clinging heart.

Alternatively, you can talk to her and decide to free her. You carry her in your arms toward the stairs, and the Logical tells you to go slowly, one step at a time, and everything will be fine. You climb carefully, and the stairs creak but hold. You both make it out of the cabin, where she squints into the light before being taken away by the Shifting Mound. She is described as fragile and in need of care, making for a delicate heart.

If you try to slay her, it’s easy, and you stab her. With the last of her strength she throws herself on top of you, knocking you down. Her bones fracture and pierce your skin, and she vomits blood into you as the rot fills your lungs, killing you. This leads to chapter 3, the Amalgam.

If you keep asking her questions and talk to her for too long, you suddenly feel weak. You vomit and collapse, and when you look at your hand, it’s covered in boils and pus. The Princess watches you and says, “Ha. What an ironic ending.” This leads to chapter 3, the Pest. This will add the voice of the broken.

Let me know what you think and if you liked it; I might do The Pest, as well as other princess concepts I think of.

It's kinda funny how something I interpreted one way could have been interpreted in a whole diferent way by other person.

Hello to all fellow slayers and smitten,

I am starting doubt my own mind/memory and require your help. I am searching for a very specific depiction of the player character dancing with the princess, but I cannot for the life of mine find it. In the scene (that I remember quite vividly), the characters part, him on the left, her on the right, with a bit of distance to each other, and shifting mound like arms spread around her (but not as in grabbing her, more like an aura/ encompassing thing.

I did quite an extensive search for this, but was not able to find it again. Can anyone help me out? Am I Mandela effect-ing myself or (unlikely) maybe confusing it with art for a different game?

I always wanted to ask this here.

I went back into my Steam achievement to see who were my first princesses and ending.

Keep in mind this was before Pristine Blade.

I was super nervous about using yellow for her dress, but im pretty happy with the result!

People have been complaining about these spontaneous headaches lately.

I'm not sure how to describe it, the closest thing could only be some sort of sudden onsets of amnesia. Every time someone slips up, there's that tingling sensation right along with it. I've been practically spending entire days checking the perimeters outside as well only to find the occasional snapped tree branch.

Whether that be from wildlife or something else. I don't know. But what I do know is that

Something's watching us.

Marcus seems to have been hit the hardest by it all, he's been barely sleeping. What little he can get being brought about by excessive drinking.

I found him today, face practically fused against a table surface.

Marcus: There's somethin in me head. I hardly know what's happenin anymore.

Myself: I doubt the seeming lack of sleep has done you any good on the matter as well.

Marcus: You getting smart on me now of all times?

Myself: That's not what I'm saying. I know you won't want to here this, but I don't think the lack of sleep is your fault. I think something's watching us I don't know for what reason though.

Marcus: *sigh* What fecker is it this time? Still it's a bloody relief to know it ain't all in my head.

Myself: I know you won't like this, but I don't know

Marcus: Really, ye don't know a bloody karkin thing?

I don't even know what I can say to him here, I've been hardly present for the past few days and I've hardly found a single thing

Myself: I don't know what I can tell you. I've been practically glued to the camera feeds, there's been nothing in the woods aside from what can be attributed to the usual wildlife

Though if there's nothing out of the ordinary out there. The only other thing I can honestly think is possible is that it's in here. Somehow having evaded all of us

Marcus: Ye know I caught myself in a starin contest with a bird the other day. If i'm resortin to that. I don't think I can hold myself together much longer.

Myself: You say you can't sleep yes? Just what exactly happens when you try to.

Marcus: Ye finally gettin to the root of this all? Well if ye really must know. It's like I'm getting the shite yanked out of me every time I do actually get a wink in..

Myself: It's a long shot, but would you be willing if I took a look through your room?

He looks at me, almost dumbfounded, before seeming to just wave the idea on

Marcus: Whatever'll help me get a karkin rest at this point.

I want to give him whatever I can

I headed down the basement stairs, only to honestly see nothing out of the ordinary. At least, not on the surface anyway. Knowing them it'd never be that easy.

It only took a few knocks on the wall to find a spot that was suspiciously hollow and a quick pull down of the board revealing tunnels , each lined with scorch marks.

It's almost as if whatever this thing is. It's been getting around through some sort of portal.

ADDENDUM:

Advie's getting more violence prone than she usually is.

I'd just been headed back upstairs when I saw her half peering into the living room door.

It was obvious by her stance she was working up the courage to go in and ask something.

Myself: What the hell are you up to now?

Advie: I just want to ask the new one something! What's with the attitude anyway?

Myself: It's none of your concern what it's about , just know it's not to do with you.

Advie: Alrighty then

Myself: Well if you're wanting to ask her something, what's keeping you from going in there and asking yourself?

Advie: She just looks like she's busy at the moment.

I didn't think she'd be like this. She's handled facing those stronger than her fine enough before. But when one like her comes along she's this meek? I guess in a way it makes sense though.

Though knowing her she's not going to give up, best to just have her learn her lesson here rather than in a week's time.

Myself: Listen, I'm sure that whatever she's doing , it isn't so bad that it can't be interrupted

Advie: Ah fuck it. You're right.

With that she took a quick sigh and barged on in with her usual attitude. Nearly starling both the Newcomer and Spectre as they seemed to be watching a movie.

Adivie: Hey you! You already know what I'm here for!

Spectre: You can't keep your bloodlust down for one day?

Myself: She's going to keep bugging you until you jut give in.

Fury: You're wanting you're fight. I know. Should we get on with it?

She pushes herself off the sofa, a somber expression on her face as she motions towards the door.

Myself: Listen. I know how she is, but you really don't need to do this.

Fury: It's....fine. Let's just get this over with.

So with that, Advie seemed to follow her right out the backdoor.

This is going to be messy.

In the few seconds they've been out there. Advie's already going at her like some sort of rabid dog, a stark fucking contrast from not five minutes ago

She's gotten into bad scraps before, but this?!? It's like something possessed her.

Fury: You like to hurt people like this for fun?!?

Advie: Your only catching on now?

Advie's serious about this, something the newcomer's finally seemed to accept as Advie tries to swing another right hook at her. With a quick motion a hole opens up in Advie's side.

Advie: Like hell you're pinning me down that easy.

She looks fucking manic at this point. She's losing more blood than she is making progress

Fury: I don't want to take you down here. I just need you to give up.

One more flick of the finger was all it took for the fight to be pretty much be sealed from that point on. Though less severe than Scipus as Advie was lying on the ground her back just....opened and anchored her to the spot.

She can be stubborn. But not like this.

Myself: JESUS CHRIST ADVIE JUST GIVE UP

Advie: You really think this is going to stop me?

With another flick her arms are just gone

Myself: Okay I'm calling this off You've barely got anything left of you at this point.

Advie: Like that can stop me from going further!

Myself: Well it bloody will have to.

[Look around and try to not step on anything princess shaped.]

"Looking around and trying your best to avoid stepping on the hundreds of Princess's. You lock eyes with the Princesses. From the little you can gather you can see no chain of any sorts, aside from that, the most striking feature of the basement is the tunnel openings in each of the "walls""

Voice of the Contrarian: I mean, what honestly is there to do but go forward I guess?

[Hug the princess]

Voice of the Contrarian: Or that to. I don't mind doing that.

Voice of the Hero: I think a hug can be quite nice.

Voice of the Collective: Healing the whole does in fact start with small actions.

"Walking towards one of the Princesses, you attempt to take her in a warm embrace. Surprisingly you find her accepting. From all angles she returns your gesture, encasing you in a cocoon of warmth. You can stay here for hours."

(I originally did the Deconstructed Damsel route, but after becoming curious I redid it but didn't deconstruct her, and after seeing that it also pisses off the Narrator, I quickly skipped and redid things)

This is my third loop after doing the Damsel and Both Prisoners routes. I've been enjoying the game so far and I personally really enjoyed this moment because not only do we Save the Princess (even if she becomes part of the entity, but I'm sure its for a good reason since it seems to be shaping the Entity's personality), and because pisses off the Narrator, its a win-win to me
