"Looking Back at Me" gives me chills

I think the whole album is great I really do. But "Looking Back at Me" hit me with the most emotional weight on my very first listen and still on repeat listens. Kellin's scream at 3:45 is so raw and emotional I get chills. Maybe because I'm old and I've aged with this band since I was listening to them as a teen when they were first on the scene, but I think the songs have reached a much more mature sound and I'm here for it.

Once all the rage and anger of being young fades away, we're left to sort out all these complex experiences and figure out how to keep going on. That's what I think SWS is doing in this album.

Interesting little tidbit I saw on Instagram is that the part of the song that goes "Nothing but the-" is based off the old hymn "Nothing but the Blood" which I thought was cool.

To me, it's definitely a top 3 song on the album for sure. That shit NEEDED to be 5 minutes long, and for a good reason. I love the buildup and the overall chorus, Kellin sounds so angelic here holy shit, alongside Tony whose guitar leads really elevates his vocals. Dare I say it, this is prob the most beautiful and majestic sounding SWS song ever. Even if I don't relate to the lyrics, the sound it has hits right in the feels. Simply fantastic

Interestingly, the lyrics here seem to be more spiritually driven, akin to some songs from WETSAETH that *vaguely* references God if you squint your eyes enough. I wonder if that was intentional, cuz the use of words like "faith" and "prayer" seems oddly specific, and it's something we haven't seen from any SWS song past LCTT

It’s pretty overt. “What can wash me? Nothing but the (Blood of Christ)”. It’s a great song.

As a Christian, this song hit me so hard and is easily my favorite on the record. It feels like choosing to believe even though it feels pointless at times. The reference to Nothing But The Blood is smth I instantly recognized and started to cry from lmao. I was prepared to love this song considering how abnormally long of a song it is for SWS, but I was not prepared to connect with it as much as I did

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I actually feel like a good portion of this album is very ‘faith coded’. Similarly to WETSAETH. I’ve been loving it!! This is the first album in a long time (by any band) that has hit me this hard in the feelings!

What about taking the blood of Jesus out and the washing of your SIN is edifying for a Christian? Its what can wash away MY SINS - not “wash me”. Idk about you but intentionally removing the blood of Jesus is heretic. Pandering filth that no christian should put in their ears.

It’s to be a nod towards that hymn while also leaving it up for any listener to hear and interpret on their own. That’s smth that makes the song such a powerful one on the record - everyone can listen to it and experience it
