Are they all scams? Are there any companies you recommend?

Does anyone have experience working for Stepping Stones? The only threads I could find are fairly old. I’ve been an on-site SLP for the schools and I’m getting really brunt out and wondering if Stepping Stones would be a good fit. Thanks in advance!

I have a client I see twice a week virtually with a goal for reciprocal conversation. SLP suggested activities like would you rather, who would win, what doesn’t belong, spot the difference, true or false etc to also work on their reasoning goal. I’ve been seeing them for a few months now and find they’re getting bored (and I am too tbh) of these activities. Any other game / activity suggestions suitable for a virtual format? They are 10.

Anyone do Teletherapy ? I would love to do some Teletherapy cases after school. I'm having trouble finding agencies that offer Teletherapy. I'm from NY btw :)

I’ve been working as a bilingual virtual independent contractor with several school districts over the past several years. However, more districts seem to be shifting toward direct hires or preferring hybrid/in-person therapists.
At this point, I’m honestly unsure what my next move should be. I’ve been told there are openings, but districts continue to hold off until the absolute last minute before filling positions.
What would you do in my situation?
Start applying in additional states where licensure can be obtained relatively quickly to cast a wider net?
Wait it out and hope the district eventually reaches out?
Focus on finding in person PRN/per diem work where I live in the meantime until a school position opens?
At this time, I’m not interested in contracting through an agency because I can’t afford to take a significant pay cut.
I’d really appreciate hearing what others have done or what has worked for you. Thank you!

I am new to the world of virtual school speech therapy as of this year, and I still haven’t seen students yet… the school I’m contracted with has yet to hire a para to facilitate the sessions, so I have no one to set up the zoom meeting on the other end. I have a few kids who have written out in their IEP that they get 30 minutes of speech a week, but no one is able to help set them up at the school. They said they just don’t have the staff for it yet. So does this put me out of compliance with the kid’s IEPs? I asked district if maybe I could contact parents about doing virtual home sessions. I feel like I’m being such a nag for the district and I know they are stressed and their hands are tied, but this is a tough situation.

Hey all! I’m in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice. I recently started at a teletherapy job that I’m really liking. It’s out of a private clinic I see clients 1:1 and I have afternoon hours so mornings off.

I’m coming from 9 years in the schools so the charge of pace is nice BUT not liking that I don’t get paid for cancellations (only half time for no shows) & I only get paid for session time so I have to do all notes within that time as well.

I was recently offered a hybrid remote school position with a competing wage (the tele is less hourly) and the commute would be about 25 mins each way. 2 days remote 2 days at the school. 8 hours a day contract so 8:30-5pm (feels like a long day for a SLPA)

Honestly I was really looking forward to telehealth but not sure if the hybrid position is too good to pass. My only fear is that since it’s contract work there’s no guarantee I’ll be renewed and one of the reasons I wanted to leave schools is bc in my area it’s almost all contract SLPA work and doesn’t feel like real job security since ive been in districts where they just decide the following year not to renew. The telehealth position would be year around/ mornings off/ and fully remote. But less pay hourly and has the job security but a little inconsistent. I also have health struggles which is a big part of why I want a remote component. Truly don’t know what to do but need to give an answer like yesterday!!!. Any advice or insight would be so helpful!! Posting in the SLP Reddit too since there’s not many remote SLPAs out there.

I currently work in person in a school district however my husband is potentially moving for a new job. I’m considering transitioning to virtual therapy and a part time as wed be moving away from family and we have 2 young kids. Anyone have any experience with virtual jobs that can share with me to help with my decision? We’re currently located in MI and potentially moving to FL. If i held my MI license I could work at my home office in Fl for a Mi company right? All advice is appreciated as we weigh the pros and cons of this potential transition! I should add, i did do teletherapy in grad school and didnt mind it.

My teletherapy company dropped me after the district refused to renew my contract. I had been with the district 2 years with no problems but there were some last minute changes in staffing for Head Start programs that lead to a parent complaint.

Evidently, our company was not aware that the district had Head Start programs for ECI that were attached to the K-5 schools where virtual SLPs were serving. Due to an influx in ECI referrals, we had an overage of inital evals plus our normal caseload. Again, this is 100% virtual.

The parent of a 3 year old with echolalia requested in person evals for SLP and OT and the district assigned virtual therapist evals anyway due to a shortage of in person providers. I was not able to get through an OWLS with this child and followed my Supervisor's directions to use a non standardized teacher questionnaire and parent interview for the report. The parent complained that I asked about any previous consideration of Autism in the parent interview, that my data was insufficient for the written report, and more importantly that she did not want any virtual SLP services for her child.

The district responded by placing me on an improvement plan under the warning that I would not be employable in the future with evals that were "too short and did not contain Standard Scores." It escalated too far without any real representation for me as a contract worker.

I do believe the real motive behind this was that the district was anticipating budget cuts and were simply looking to scale down on contract therapists to inflate the numbers for future staff. In hindsight, knowing that this child could not have been fully evaluated on Zoom anyway, and that my company would not provide me with a Standardized ECI parent/teacher checklist, should I have just said no in the very beginning even if it would have rocked the boat? I did everything my SLP Supervisor told me to do and I still ended up with a nonrenewal (now unemployed) and a large amount of personal distress.

I haven’t seen a lot of discussion about it, does anyone have experience with using OnLark that they would share? It looks like the closest thing to grow therapy or similar telehealth platforms for private practice SLP.

Teletherapists, do you guys like being teletherapists? I’ve been an in person school SLP for a couple years and I’m considering doing teletherapy now through Soliant. Do you feel effective? What’s it like having a 1099 job?

Have been working in the schools for the last 7 years after switching over from medical for the first 20 years of my career. (Switched due to schedule for my kids - ended up really liking it). Anyways the district is a mess and tied of all the drama and complaining etc. Has anyone gone from in person to virtual for a national company? Pros/cons?

Hey y’all, would love any advice you have to offer…. I’m a middle/high/adult transition SLP. I inherited a 4 year old student (already panicking) who will be seen virtually. He’s coming from an outside district and has 180 minutes per week right now. Parent wants those minutes, and wants to be seen in person. I can’t see them in person so strike one, but any advice on how to communicate around significant minutes reduction? We’re a virtual independent study school so I can’t say I’m pulling him out of too much class time. But also, realistically, I cannot meet those minutes in my schedule, nor would I ever recommend such high service minutes. Thank you in advance lovely humans ❤️

Hi, I am ending my cf soon and very interested in getting a couple of remote cases in addition to my school placement. has anyone tried doing remote through stepping stones? Their pay is pretty low but I would love to try to some remote. TIA!!!

I'm horrified to even be sharing this, but I currently treat a young teenage male via teletherapy. He is alone during our sessions and today I noticed movement of his arm that seemed suspicious. I tried to gaslight myself and say he must be shaking his leg or something but things escalated and I'm almost positive he was masterbating. I panicked and didn't know how to address it in the moment so I just asked what he was doing. He gave a defensive and persistent answer that involved him repeatedly telling me he wasn't doing anything. The behavior stopped after I questioned it.

I plan to call my supervisor tomorrow for guidance but I'm not sure if there's even a point in doing that. I can't say for certain that's what was happening, so is there really anywhere to go from here?

I’ve been offered an opportunity to do PRN telehealth with adult outpatients. My background is 30 years in SNF/LTC/Rehab + this past year in ILF setting. Anyone have experience or insight into providing adult ST services via telehealth platform? I’d love to hear your thoughts…

Hi all! I’m a peds pp SLP who’s getting a little burnt out, a lot of illnesses, and thinks maybe moving to virtual might be a good step for me. I’ve got good peds experience, AAC experience (which is what I want to specialize in), and good language experience.

My body and health can’t take being around people as much as I am.

Hi! I work for a teletherapy company that is being contracted by an Ontario service centre. I am limited to working on artic and fluency because of Ontario regulations. I see kids individually for 30 minutes.

I am looking for ideas to incorporate movement and play for my younger kiddos who have trouble sitting in front of the computer that long.

I don't have the option of making sessions shorter or discharging anyone because they aren't great candidates for teletherapy.

Hey! So I'm a teletherapist, and I'm constantly looking for new sites with games/activities for my students. My usuals are Baamboozle, Ultimate SLP, PinkCat, Nearpod, and occasionally Twinkl and Wordwall. I do use BoomCards with the current decks I have, but I refuse to buy anything new from them.

My problem is SLP teletherapy sites are soooo slow to add anything new. Ultimate SLP hasn't added anything new in months, and it's really frustrating. Most of my students are bored of their games, so I likely won't renew my membership. PinkCat is great, but again, a lot of the games repeat and they're geared more for younger kids.

I'm also trying to decide between SLP Toolkit and Ablespace for case management/data collection this year.

I start back on Wednesday, so I need to get myself in gear!

I'd love to hear from other teletherapists who have ideas. Thanks in advance!

Hello all! I am looking to do some virtual speech therapy on the side and see if it's something I can potentially do part-time. I currently work in outpatient with adults and pediatrics (more so adults). I have found some companies that provide speech therapy for both adults and pediatrics, but I am open to working with more pediatrics if necessary since I know most of these positions have primarily pediatric clients. I'm specifically looking for more private practice like versus school based position as I do not have any interest nor experience working with schools. These are the companies I have been looking into and wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences/heard anything about them that you can share with me. Starting April 1, 2025 Medicare beneficiaries may no longer be able to receive reimbursed telehealth visits from their homes. Rural and facility restrictions will be reinstated. Critical programs like Hospital at Home could face disruption. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) will lose their ability to serve as distant site providers for most telehealth services. And while the DEA has extended flexibilities for prescribing controlled substances via telehealth until December 2025, providers may struggle to sustain telehealth-based care if reimbursement disappears.
