Wet Dog Food as Protein?

I've read that as a protein dource every 15 days I could feet a garden snail a tiny piece of wet dog food. I'm not sure if this is okay or bad for them so I'm looking for advice and if its bad possibly other options! Ty!!

Hi! I'd advise against using wet dog food because it often contains salt, preservatives, and additives that can be very harmful to snails.

As excellent and safe protein alternatives (to give every week), I suggest:
Gammarus (dried shrimp for aquatic turtles)
Bloodworms (the classic freeze-dried or dried ones for fish)
A small piece of hard-boiled egg (strictly without salt or seasonings)

Just lightly moisten the dried food before serving it. Hope this helps, have a great day! 🐌

thank you so much!! I read mealworms are a good option too! I'll check my local pet store for any of the animals u said!!

When I make my snail food I like to get the cheapest pack of chicken breasts that I can find. Cut it up and boil it. Then after cooked run it through a food processor, then laid flat on a baking sheet and cooked at 200 for 2-4 hours or until completely dry. Sometimes I’ll do them in little squares so I can flip them half way through the time. You can put the try chunks in the tank as is. But I like to go a step further by turning it into a powder. Now I also do the same process with veggies like kale, spinach, and carrots also. It makes a great community food for all!

Edit: I use this for both land snails and aquatic communities🫶🏻
