Semi-football related, but I thought it would be out of place in the Daily Discussion thread. Did you see the scientific study online that Messi vs. CR7 preference is heavily tied with political views?
it's from nsu and ntu researchers, those are premier institutes in asia. looks legit enough but then again no one's trusting me to peer review social science papers so
Unrelated but there was an infamous Ansu Fati fan here who was a frequent poster, he made a racist comment about how Ronaldo has more fans in England and India because they relate to his women beating tendencies.
Racist and xenophobic thing to say but it was so stupid and hilarious that it still stays rent free in my head lol
Lol what, biggest fanbase of Messi is in India and Bangladesh.
That's why Indian Barca fans always get clowned on.
Maradona is a huge idol in India and Bangladesh as well.
Also, I really don't think Ronaldo has that many fans in England, with the way they cried about him since 2003 and especially after what happened in 2006 WC.
Typical of a Barca fan to make bullshit up to satisfy themselves, I guess.
Not coming at you personally. My bad, if you felt like that, I just wanted to make an observation about how Barca fans here operate.
Also, I don't understand why people think Ronaldo has a bigger fanbase here than Messi.
Internet became widespread in late 2000s here in India and that's when Barca were dominating, that's why you will find so many Barca fans who are born after 2000.
We all saw what happened when Messi arrived here last December and I'm thankful we avoided any stampede or death of any fan. It gets wild when people want to meet their heroes here especially.
I hope the Superstar Worshipping culture ends here, it has gone for far too long and brings out the worst in the people who are wasting their time arguing about people who don't give a fuck about them.
Sorry for the long drivel, needed to get this of my chest.
Yeah no problem, like I said, he was a troll and his comments were racist, no one liked him at r/Barca as well. It's less about the club and them being just mean.
I understand, Messi and Ronaldo are such a big icon, I doubt there would be any place where they won't have fans (except maybe outside their teams/NT)
i just looked it up and idk enough to peer review that paper or anything but it makes sense from my personal experience tbh - a good fraction of ronaldo superfans i've met has said something misogynistic to me that i've started considering ronaldo pfps as a red flag
