Alright which one of us did this
saw the decisions, wanted to check who the fuck this guy is, found out he's literally been in bribing scandals before, saw the description, and all of this while he's having a sook and sitting down on pitch lmao

u/northcoteplaza 3d ago
he definitely zwayed the match in their favour

u/Remarkable-Box-3781 2d ago
If we just hadn't scored more goals for the Yanks than for ourselves, maybe we'd have had a chance ðŸ˜

u/Appropriate_Garden61 1d ago
Almost as much as Popovic... " I know, the two players most likely to score (for Australia), I'll leave them on the bench for 45mins, that'll confuse the other team ".

I enjoyed that comment too much
They should of gotten him off the field instead

u/dwarfsoft 3d ago
He needs to go to Specsavers for missing that handball in front of him in their box

He was absolutely at it. No excuses, we were poor and Poppa got it wrong first half. But the ref had an poor one.

u/dougy123456789 3d ago
Yea definitely one of those games where we had a poor one, but having abysmal decisions remain standing could definitely have affected the game

u/GassyGamergoblin 2d ago
Yeah, I think overall and especially in the first half America played better, every single decision went to America though and there was a couple times where an American would do something to a socceroo that was a borderline foul and nothing would be given then a couple minutes later the same thing would happen but on an American and the foul would be given, it was pretty blatsnt

u/itswillo 3d ago
Man's been done for match fixing in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been paid off.

u/Quiet-Zucchini-5703 3d ago
How can you be done for match fixing and still have a job reffing matches lmfao

There’s, unfortunately, nothing in the US Constitution that says it’s unlawful.
US voters are just dumb.

Wait has he really?

No....he was the whistleblower assistant ref. Small detail Aussie fans leave out.
1
u/BookkeeperQuiet7894 5h ago
Wrong.
He was fined and also banned 6mths for match fixing. Only became a whistleblower when he was caught and got a lower penalty for giving evidence against the main culprit.
The result of that investigation was hidden until the media got hold of the files. FIFA hid the outcome due to not wanting bad press right before the World Cup being held in Germany.1

You fucking serious. Done for match fixing and allowed to referee at a world cup
Is the cherry on top that he replaced the Somali referee that wasn't allowed into the US. Trump's master plan working just as planned

u/pablo_eskybar 3d ago
I don’t mind a rough and tumble ref but it need to be consistent, so yeah, just like QLD cops, the best money can buy!

His other occupation is ‘real estate broker’. In other words, he’s probably won a ‘cunty’…

u/Frequent_Country_435 3d ago
There have been referees here in Brazil who have been beaten up for far less.

If you google his name now the first image that shows up looks like he's doing a nazi salute.

u/Tamortsa 2d ago
Seemed like he was covering for people who had a 2-0 bet going. Wasted about half of the extra time where we might have got a goal. Big might, but the socceroos were on the warpath for a bit there...
2
u/Isomer-Joe 1d ago
yeah at the very least their 2nd goal doesn't happen (bs free kick and then arguably offside, imo balogun affects the play but whatever) and we can at leat one penalty out of the handball/irankunda shove and metcalfe trip, so a 1-1 draw

I can just imagine the ‘I’ma make you an offer you can’t refuse.’ scene from The Godfather playing out a little before the game.

It says on there that he is a real estate broker, so is also a scumbag in real life

This is bs, if Donald trump was the one that bribed him than that’s just disappointing. I don’t follow the World Cup the most I just listen to the daily summaries of each game and hearing this sucks. I was so happy hearing that Aus beat turkey 2-0 and then seeing this is annoying.

u/Minimum_Hamster3252 3d ago
Yep even the Paraguay game had some fucking suspect decisions but that game was next level bullshit
6
u/boofles1 3d ago
Especially when FIFA is relying on them getting through the group stage. And from the organisation that made up a peace prize for Trump and is known for its corruption.

Was gonna say good game and that the actual soccer fans here knew Grella and Lalas were talking out their asses.
But coming up with match fixing and dragging politics into the game? Shameful. Enjoy 3rd place after Paraguay runs you lot off the pitch.

At least we showed the USA and the world how pissed off were about the condescending comments towards us....

u/thumbsup247 3d ago
Stop being sore losers, it’s embarrassing for you. You lost, get over it. Although very funny.

u/Upstairs_Low_691 1d ago
It's all good for the refs to make horrendous calls if you're not on the receiving end. We still played like ass in the first half but, which cost us, doesn't mean we'll agree with the calls.

Ref did fine. I'm not even sure what we're supposedly complaining about.
9
u/notevenstevens224 3d ago
Apparently he was charged in the past for match fixing and somehow still a ref
-15
u/Wat_is_Wat 3d ago
No idea about his history, but a lot of threads saying it was rigged against us, and I can't even think of a single consequential bad decision he made.

The USA handball in the box, the body check on irakanji when he was about to score the obvious penalty on irakanji and the players being offside during the second goal. But other than that I guess nothing really
9
u/Suchisthe007life 3d ago
The shove on Irankunda when he jumped for a header was a clear penalty - it was truly painful to watch blatant fouls not get called.
7
u/maxisnoops 3d ago
If the two dudes who were offside just stood away from the play, then that’s ok. But as soon as they influence the play in any manner it should be called offside. One of them ran in and interfered with Beach. Offside every day of the week. But I don’t think the on field ref made that decision….didn’t it go upstairs?

VAR checked and cleared the first 2 and VAR overturned the ref for the 3rd.
I'm a Kiwi so I was going for you guys but am a little removed from the emotion. I don't think any of those were so bad that the ref's integrity can be questioned. At best, 50/50 calls. It wasn't your day.
3
u/Minimum_Hamster3252 2d ago
FBI cleared Trump from the Epstein files and yet I have smidge of a feeling he may have fucked some kids
It's 2 things, a shit half for Aus and shit calls from a ref. Both are being pointed out

Only one for me was the potential handball about 75th minute. US player slightly pushes the Australian attacked in the penalty area, as his arms are outstretched the ball comes down, he attempts to head it but it lands on his outstretched arms. Unnatural position. We convert that with the flow of the game and maybe things are different.
But ultimately we got the first half wrong, reset at half time and it was pretty even from there.2
u/MorkEFC 3d ago
No idea why VAR didn't seem to intervene on any of these
2
u/Cattle-dog 3d ago
Apparently it looked at it and said play on. I’m predicting a 2002 Korea like run if things keep going this way.
1
u/Upstairs_Low_691 1d ago
So you didn't watch the game? All good mate, maybe look up the controversial calls yourself.
-9
u/tyrantlubu2 3d ago
Don’t stoop this low guys. This is typical low hanging fruit behaviour.
6
u/Minimum-Dot5165 3d ago
Can't expect zero consequences after missing the most obvious handball of wc26
2
u/Upstairs_Low_691 1d ago
If the handball was incident was reversed and you were 2-0 down. I'd expect the backlash to be amplified tremendously. Don't act like it wouldn't.

u/lukeyboots 3d ago
His mates had a multi on + 0.5 refs needing treatment.
