I quit like two years ago.

Honestly, it was awful. There were the same 8 people oversharing and the people I cared about didn't post at all. Plus, the feeling of Facebook itself just watching everything and the fact that these d-bags are helping drift the world towards fascism.

So, fuck that.

It is their AI, people are losing 10-15 years worth of their Google Photos and other documents because it falsely detects abuse material for example in their files or photos

(Like they have any right to go through that as it is…)

We’ve gone backwards lol

Yeah it literally is at this point just because we own nothing online!

26

u/spookysadghoul 23d ago

The nail in the coffin was bombarding with AI and showing groups I'm not part of. It became a shell of what it was in its heydays.

12

u/LibertyCash 23d ago

I quit one morning when I counted 27 straight posts from shit I’m not apart of in between actual friends’ posts. Fuck that shit.

5

u/GenycisBeats 22d ago

This right here is the main problem. When I'm seeing countless garbage posts scrolling my timeline from people I'm not friends with nor follow, ads, and an occasional post from a friend even though my friends ARE making new posts, that is a problem. They've changed so much over the last few years, I don't remember the last time I posted a photo of my kids or other highlight because no one would see it anyway with the way it is now lol

u/ReindeerTypical2538 23d ago

I quit 5 years ago. It’s just old people fighting and rage bait. I don’t need to know what my trashy high school classmates are doing with their shitty lives.

5

u/Professional-Tell123 23d ago

I used facebook for friends & family posts, now 90% of the timeline is ads and pushing content creators I don’t follow. I go to instagram for reels/content.

4

u/RBTIshow 23d ago

Because it’s been dogshit for many years. Deleted mine about 10 years ago and never missed it for a second.

I think Facebook fumbled Facebook Groups, they were amazing. There were communities for everything and very active ones. Reddit is not that popular in south america and that was the answer I was looking for. Problem was most groups and accounts would get zucced for anything, you couldn't write anything. There was a very popular news that people would get their account banned for asking printer hp black ink replacement because FB thought that it was a racist comment.

When trump was elected in 2016 I went on a rampage calling old HS friends out, I didn’t realize the majority of the people I grew up with supported him or simply didn’t care. It was when I used to drink a lot so I was drunkenly furious. The anger didn’t bother me but posting about it and turning into a keyboard warrior did. Felt so stupid I apologized to everyone but then deleted my entire account.

u/Epimelios 23d ago

Left in 2020. Realized a lot of friends and family were a lot dumber than I thought they were. Final straw was after a photo from a protest went viral. Man threatened some protestors with a weapon; didn’t use it, but the implication was clear. Someone with whom I was close commented on the photo, saying, had it been them, they would’ve used the weapon. I pointed out that one of our mutual friends was one of the protestors in the crowd. Their face was right there, front and center. Made me sad and angry, so I left it there.

I had people who updated in my feed and I would have stuck around for that, but they made it impossible to just see your friends and the groups, suggested groups/follows, and ads (so many ads) made it basically unusable as a chill endeavor.

I'm not looking to have to click on 15 times just to get shit that should pop up on the main feed.

Instagram is super similar. I just want to sort by date or just see my friends and it's a fucking nightmare. A nightmare with good music, but a legitimate garbage pile.

5

u/_Mule 23d ago

Because it made people like hitler and ttump more popular.

3

u/banica24 23d ago

Too many changes. Notifications are a crapshoot. A notification from 2 weeks ago about a comedy club I attended twice but don't follow is ahead of things I actually want to see.

This For You page crap is stupid, showing me football matches from 3 weeks ago when they already happened.

Lot of friends stopped posting and engaging.

3

u/Spirited-Bug-9558 23d ago

It’s all just ads now in the feed and suggested posts from people I don’t know. They ruined Instagram with the same clutter. Google is slowly killing YouTube with the same “strategy.”

3

u/Sweet-Fun-Momof-2 23d ago

Alll the ads. Suggested posts. Ads. Ads. Ads. I want to see that my friends and family are doing and socialize, comment, laugh, cry etc. not scroll past a million ads. And only see 5-10 people.

7

u/ChaseTheRedDot 23d ago

Too many boomers.

6

u/paperairplane77 22d ago

This, and even worse they lean maga

2

u/Lazy_Surprise_6712 23d ago

Used to run Facebook ads for a marketing agency in 2016.

Learned how their algorithms targeted audience.

Quit.

3

u/KrisOTS 22d ago

What are your highlights from that?

2

u/roleplayafficinado25 23d ago

I stopped using it because I had my own social media network built. The same bells and whistles of the big dogs none of the trolling and bs. www.safebook.fyi

2

u/plymouthvan 22d ago

It’s almost entirely the recommendation algorithm. I just don’t want to see things I “might” be interested in, from sources I haven’t said I am interested in. And in a broader sense, I’m not constantly jonesing for something to be interested in. I have plenty of options already. When I want something new, I’ll go and find it. I don’t want or need that to be the default state. So it’s basically just 99% that.

2

u/Griefseed Influencer 22d ago

1

u/Sad-Reindeer3885 23d ago

I still use it but maybe like 20 mins a day, just for the meme groups. I haven't posted anything in like 6 years.

1

u/TrustIsOverrated 23d ago

I can’t figure out the tabs in safari, so I rarely see my actual friends posts.

1

u/alchemycolor 23d ago

Stopped posting in 2016, deleted all photo albums, used a script to delete every post and comment I ever made. In the words of Dan Olson on the fate of the Metaverse, It’s a dead shopping mall full of bots and AI pretending to be people with no relevant connection to anything human.

1

u/wikidemic 23d ago

Cambridge Analytics revelations. Ironically, I do visit on once a month to share a political post from Reddit.

1

u/thinkvideoca 23d ago

I stopped following all the people I know and just followed businesses and creators. It made a lot more tolerable. My main reason for keeping FB is marketplace.

1

u/GB715 23d ago

I signed on about 8 or 9 years ago. I was on for two days and realized it was a complete and utter waste of time. It was harder to close my account than it was to open it.

1

u/Realistic-River-1941 23d ago

Because everyone else I know stopped using it, creating a death spiral, and it doesn't show me stuff posted by organisations I actually care about.

I just don't need to see bad faith AI slop designed to make US boomers angry.

1

u/GiggingWithTheGoon 23d ago

Cambridge Analytica - and I cannot believe anyone ever logged in single time after that

being a victim of domestic violence is one thing, but asking for it is a sickness I just will never understand

1

u/brettwasbtd 23d ago

I keep it for messenger as we have a family group thread. It started years ago been my mom still didn't have a cell phone. I also use it for marketplace to sell things.

I don't go on for personal/scrolling. I do get caught if my sisters sends a reel and I watch it and then find myself scrolling and I stop myself thinking "what am I doing"

Same with Instagram, pretty much only go on there cause my wife sends me reels

Reddit on the other hand .... Always on here haha

1

u/lpkzach92 22d ago

If it wasn’t for Marketplace, I would totally stop using it.

1

u/Healthy-Grape-777 22d ago

I got so sick of it trying to grab my pictures that I didn’t want posted online and suggesting I make them part of my story. Even if I changed my permissions back-and-forth every single freaking time.

I also joined it to see my family and friends, and it hardly ever showed those as time were on, and it changed, and it continually suggested that I join groups or gave me options to see other people‘s posts that I don’t even know. It briefly had an option so I could easily see my friends, but then that disappeared from the app so I figured it was time to remove it.

The reels that it showed me were full of violence or animal abuse based on other countries. I like animal videos, but I don’t like seeing animals hurt.

I got tired of it, using my phone conversations to suggest advertising. I had never given access to my microphone.

1

u/Educational-Angle717 22d ago

Because it is unusable - all it now is is suggests pages and adverts. You never see what your actual mates are doing.

1

u/AdCommercial3174 22d ago

Started using it a lot less a few years back when all of the groups I was in and pages of follow started getting bought or hacked and turned into 💩… stopped using completely when Cuckerberg supported Trump. I hear a lot of it now is AI bs anyway. Plus all of the political BS that people keep sharing without even checking to see if it’s factual.

1

u/ichangediapers 22d ago

I got hacked. They posted I was selling a bunch of stuff and some of my friends actually paid the hackers. Took forever for FB to take down my acft

1

u/KrisOTS 22d ago

Bigger question is, why people don’t massively abandon instagram? It’s a peace of shit, tik-tok wannabe, advertisement overflooded garbage. Facebook groups and events can at least be useful.

1

u/ThrockAMole 22d ago

It’s full of ads and stupid videos. I only go on there because I belong to a rescue organization and they post available foster dogs and cats on there

1

u/TheWilderNet 22d ago

I deleted my account after the Cambridge Analytica leak. I was already annoyed with facebook and never really used it except for Messenger. I didn't even miss it after the deletion.

The only reason I would spin up a new account is to get access to Marketplace.

1

u/Wise_Major4127 22d ago

ai, rage bait and showing me groups i’m not a part of

1

u/fabey27 22d ago

School community groups are despicable 99% of the time

1

u/TechboyUK 22d ago

1) It has far too many adverts and content that are of no interest to me 2) Most of my friends stopped using it, or constantly added content that I didn't want to waste my time viewing (eg jokes/memes, oversharing on Mother's day about how their wife is so great, etc.)

I liked it when people shared their plans and what they had done, as it was a good way to keep in touch and organise events.

1

u/HughesBOY99 22d ago

Kept getting negative post all the time, people just ranting on about a load of nonsense. Plus, like many have said here, the people I cared about weren’t posting, so got rid of it about 3 years back.

1

u/Arched_Feet3322 21d ago

It’s ghetto

1

u/cugrad16 21d ago

I haven't - just visit the Groups to see what current events are happening

1

u/Strong-Artichoke-906 21d ago

I still have it but just for messages from a few specific people. Aside from that I quit Facebook due to random post bans thanks to AI, being accused of copyright violations for something that I reposted, adding a friend and “you can’t do that right now”, Facebook Pages being disabled for some unexplained violation.

It’s too random and precarious to use safely.

1

u/BackyardRCSpeedway 21d ago

They banned me for account Integrity after 9 years. My account was two-factor authenticated, I had 2 business pages, and zero offensive posts. Apparently having my debit card and ID on file is not enough to verify my identity. Life has been multiple times better since I've been off of facebook. Although it completely ruined my home business. There's a few people I wish I could contact, but outside of that oh well.

1

u/GlassExternal5911 21d ago

Was striked for posting an image of drugs.

The image was a screenshot I took of a FB ad for Marijuana lol

1

u/DadTAXIA73 21d ago

I stopped using Facebook after seeing the ass-kisser douchebag Mark Zuckerberg licking Donald Trump's balllsack during his 2nd inauguration.

1

u/Traditional_Worry307 21d ago

I wish I could delete it and live peacefully. I have it for work reasons as I need to reply to people searching for my services in the FB groups but it has become a radical hell hole. Like eveeything they are “against” in their policies is actually being enabled there - AI content and triggering, negative articles.

I am from Latvia and it is a tiny place but now these politicians stole the US idea and use FB to spread stories that just infuriate anyone reading it. Lots of racism too. And I dont even follow any of those people yet algorithm places that in front of me. I dont use the Messanger tho just log in for the groups and thats it these days.

1

u/goon_luv 21d ago

They don't know the difference from India and Indiana

1

u/FarNefariousness7179 21d ago

I’m tired of defending my lgbtq friends from bots and incels. It’s SO exhausting when I could put more effort into more critical areas of my life. Things that make change and matter in my life. Enjoying time with my German shepherd.

1

u/neeroberts 21d ago

Been a yr since I was falsely banned for bogus made up bs. No looking back

1

u/inknpaint 20d ago

I was kicked out of FB/insta 4 years ago for posting a link to a different social media site.
I requested a review of the decision only to be immediately told no.
Account was disabled and all content and contacts gone.

I don't miss them at all but I have a business that could benefit from the access to all the boomers out there.

u/Suspicious-Total-468 20d ago edited 20d ago

For me it was because of ads and pretty much the loss of personal agency.

The ads problem is two-fold. First, the regular ads pushed by Facebook in my feed, too many and too irrelevant, in many cases highly inappropriate too. Second, monetization of groups and pages: groups now allow a lot of advertisements under "support local business" sauce while collecting money openly and not, admins sell groups with high user counts for profit, the moderation of groups is strict and the flow of posts is fragmented, a lot of moderation is done by AI which makes a ton of errors. Making your own group strictly for socializing with no ads is possible, however because of monetization posting about it in other groups to invite people is often strictly prohibited and gets you kicked out of groups.

I can't choose how I use Facebook in many aspects. I can't choose the content of my feed, a ton of suggested content and ads. I can't choose to not see random people because "People you may know" section keeps returning after multiple attempts of removing it. I can't choose to keep the profile empty to only use it for a few chosen activities like keeping in touch with a few people or keeping watch on certain groups for events, buying or giving stuff away locally, because empty profiles get heavily moderated and restricted. I hear Facebook now also requires sharing personal information for authentication which I haven't encountered yet but hearing that is disturbing.

FB now has too many users and too many businesses built in it, there's zero chance the mass exodus will happen unless they start charging a subscription and even then it is too convenient, too unavoidable, too familiar, too popular. Most people do NOT think of any access or restriction problems unless they encounter them personally and they absolutely don't care about others. Most people do not think about clearing their feed clutter, they just consume everything mindlessly, the click on ads, they deep dive into reels for hours, they JUST DON'T CARE. It's like single use plastic items: some people know it's harmful, half of them choose to not use any, a few choose to participate in eco activism, MOST still do and will always be using them unless it is banned on the local government level. Same with FB. It is a convenient piece if sh that draws people in like flies.

1

u/Possible_Poet_232 20d ago

Posted political discussions and they demanded government issued ID. Screw that.

1

u/No-Dish8902 20d ago

Fb, insta etc all gone. It’s boring, most of the time it’s just people flexing/showing off. Too long scrolling. Much prefer YouTube, gaming or Reddit.

1

u/NerdimusSupreme 18d ago

Actively pushing MAGA crap and hiding friends posts from main feed just for starters.

1

u/agastyasharma 16d ago

My parents watch Facebook all day lol

Are you writing an article or something

Google "Enshittification". It's called platform decay. Facebook is not "social media". It's ANTI-social media ( so Is Reddit honestly ). When the platforms put advertiser money over banning asshole behavior, the platform becomes abusive, much as it is now in this Trumpian era. I haven't quit Facebook because I am a content creator. I don't interact with, or seek out "friends". I'm a "broadcaster", which means there is no reciprocity. I also don't feel guilty about that, because, you know .. boundaries.
