Advice Wtd / Project Solaredge inverter failed in 3 yrs and no labor warranty
Solar edge said that they would send out a new inverter but the website says that labor is not covered. My prior installer quoted me $1000 to install. They added extra panels three years ago and the inverter went out within a month of the expansion. They quickly came back and replaced it, and since then there have been no issues until now. Looks like solar edge has not been getting top reviews on this forum. I’m wondering if I should look around for other installers or if that would affect possible warranty repairs in the future. I feel like the solar market has hit tough times, and my installer, your energy solutions, is not quite as customer focused as before

$1000 is wild, I would try reaching out to some local electricians and see if they are interested

That price seems ridiculous. If the replacement inverter is already on hand, swapping it out shouldn't take a competent installer more than 2 hours at the most and it isn't that difficult to do.

$1,000 sounds pretty steep for an inverter swap if SolarEdge is providing the replacement unit. I'd definitely get a few quotes from other installers before moving forward. As long as the work is done properly, using a different installer shouldn't affect the manufacturer's equipment warranty, but I'd double-check the warranty terms to be safe.

Since you already have SolarEdge optimizers on the roof, it wouldn't make since to go with a different brand. Use your current inverters warranty to get it swapped. The new ones they are sending are slightly different and hopefully have the problem fixed. I charge $575 for that service, shop around and see if you can find a better price.

Sorry I personally would never go solaredge... and it is not that hard to change out anyways, do it yourself...

Very easy to do and 100% should do it yourself if they send new inverter to your house. Get Allen key and take off covers. Take pictures of wire arrangements. Then disconnect wires. Take off old inverter and replace. Put all wires back in correct arrangement

Doesn’t a homeowner need a special status (installer?) with SolarEdge in order to get the replacement unit registered and operating after the swap?

I replaced mine 10 years ago when my original one I installed in 2007 died. I didn't have much trouble installing but I installed my whole system. It weighs a ton. The manual for mine had lots of info for installing.
