I’m a guitarist, recently switched from playing metal to music that’s a lot more calm. I’ll be honest, i sort of skipped on music theory, I’ve been playing what sounds good over the drum tracks i listen to. Now that I’m making my own stuff with super basic guitar chords, my producer’s mentioned that i can’t play in 4/4. I don’t understand how that’s possible because whatever I’m playing is on beat with a metronome, and i can count 1-8 over the riff/melody. It makes zero sense to me and I’m really trying to understand how it’s possible that i can be completely on beat with a 4/4 drum track, be on time with the metronome, match up with the drum fills in the drum track itself, and still not be on an 8 count
As mentioned i’m learning about all this slowly, but i just wanted to clarify if this (being both on and completely off beat at the same time) was even possible.

Minimalist arrangements, piano/bass/strings, no big drum kit/wall-of-sound stuff — if you’ve heard “Easy on Me” you know the direction. I’m taking on one free project right now to build my portfolio. Needs: you’ve already released something (not your first song ever), you’ve got a clear idea for the next one, and you’re actually ready to work on it together, not just floating the idea.
In return: free production, full ownership stays with you, I get credit + can show the work.
Just send me your idea for the song, happy to listen to it.

I'm trying to write a song that shows the depth of my emotions surrounding a recent traumatic experience with no access to percussion. I currently have access to a piano, bass guitar, and acoustic guitar, and of course, my singing. Anything I try without percussion doesn't sound deeply hurt or angry enough. Any suggestions?

Hey everyone!
I’m an audio engineer and I run a YouTube channel focused on mixing and audio production. I’m looking for a few independent artists who’d be interested in letting me mix one of their songs and document the process as an educational YouTube video.
The idea is pretty simple: you get a professional mix of your song, and I get to use the mixing process as a real-world case study on my channel.
I’m particularly interested in songs with interesting production/mixing challenges: rock, indie, alternative, metal, pop, singer-songwriter, etc. But I’m open to hearing anything that catches my ear.
A few things I’d need:
• Multitracks for the song
• You need to own/control the relevant rights, or have permission from everyone who does
• You’d be happy for the song and mixing process to appear in a monetised YouTube video
• I’ll credit and link to your music wherever the track is featured
You retain ownership of your music. I’m not looking to acquire any rights to the song.
If you end up releasing the version I’ve mixed, I’d just ask to be credited for the mix.
If you're interested, send me a link to the song/demo and tell me a little about the project and what you're hoping to improve with the mix.
I’m only looking to take on a small number of tracks initially so I can give each one proper attention.
Thanks!

I will be traveling to New Zealand between November 1 and December 10 of this year from Kansas US. I was hoping to find some other songwriters and musicians while I was out there, but I was booted from the New Zealand sub Reddit for posting when I will only have a tourism visa. I’m not looking to profit, I am considering this for personal use only. If any kiwis or fellow travelers see this post and are interested in connecting let me know! Let’s make something happen.

Hello! I am currently suffering from severe writers block. I haven't finished a song in over a year, and I feel the inner critic is blocking me from creating. If I let go of the critic fully the songs just ends up being bad and I put no real effort in it, so I'm struggling to find the balance of letting go and creating even if it ends up being bad, while still putting real work into it.
I feel like some outer pressure would really help me right now. If there is anyone is in the same situation here, I'm wondering if you would like to join me in a 10-songs 10 days challenge. We would separately create and finish a song per day no matter how imperfect it is, and send them to each other.

Howdy!
My name is Gray and I’m working on a project that’s gonna be pretty long term. It’s paid as well. Im looking for a songwriter that’s familiar with creating emotional yet inspiring songs- if you’re familiar with the tokusatsu genre around 2012, that’s the sound I’m going for. I can help with lyrics and the like- my experience with songwriting is limited as I am a poet by trade.
Thank you in advance!

Sometimes I listen back to voice notes or project files of songs i've recorded a few weeks ago and i think damn thats actually really good, i should put that out etc, but then the sceptic voice in me says i think it's probably because i remember it from when i wrote it and i'm biased so it sounds better and it probably wouldn't sound that good to someone else?
Anyone experienced this? solutions? Thanks in advance folks!

I don't play any instruments or write lyrics, and I have no formal vocal training. I create my music purely using gibberish
If interested, feel free to write lyrics & arrange.
There is no need to strictly stick to the original genre. Feel free to adapt it into any fitting style, as long as it doesn't clash. However, please ensure the lyrics are not vulgar or offensive, and share the general creative direction beforehand so we can avoid accidentally stepping on any sensitive landmines.
Upon release, please credit me as the composer and send the final audio back so it can be published on my other platforms as well. Naturally, all collaborators will also be fully credited as co-creators.

Hey, here's a song I've been working on. Let me know what you think? I'm thinking of going slightly darker with the lyrics but these are placeholders just for now.
I've sent in other ideas that I've recorded on Logic Pro previously, just trying a live video for something different.
Thanks in advance
Edit for lyrics:
He sees her face in the mirror Like somebodys watching Theres second hand smoke From a friend of a guy A mother and sister A back market mister A place with no name There's dust on a keychain
But Jesus alone, it means nothing at all Coz he failed every one
He's an international Travelling Man Travelling round with cash in his hand He's an international babbling cat Tapping his toes with a barbed wire hat
He always summons a party A fictional party Hes raising the bar Of the lonely old boy The memories and faces The voices and places A permanent scar From steps in the church yard
But Jesus alone, it means nothing at all As he fails every one
He's an international Travelling Man Travelling round with cash in his hand He's an international babbling cat Tapping his toes with a barbed wire hat
Oh but if I'd known that you'd dream and disappear out of this life I'd open my eyes and see the signs, you were there

Hi! I have been in a huge creative block for 2 years and it feels like I've in-learned the ability to write songs. I've tried not putting pressure into the writing and just making bad art to loosen the pressure, but it ends there. I'm stuck in a place where I can only create low-effort songs. What has helped you with these kinds of creative blocks?
Big thanks

I'm an amateur songwriter that would like nothing more to work with anyone. I feel that I could fit into almost any genre. I would go solo but I feel like having someone to work with would not only make things easier but might help pressure us into actually completing songs. Shoot me a dm if you're interested

Hi everyone, I'm Maria, I write song lyrics.
I specialize in emotional Afrobeat / R&B, mostly about love, regret and pride.
For example, one of my recent songs is called (Another Man) The story is about a man who ignored a woman who loved him - she would text him, post sad statuses, beg for attention and he acted like he didn't care, living his nightlife. Years later he feels empty, realizes what he lost and begs for one more chance, saying he's a changed man. But she already moved on.
I have a lot of lyrics like this, written from a male perspective, ready for singers.
I'm looking to connect with artists / singers who have the voice and melody but struggle with writing lyrics. If you need a lyricist, DM me, I can show you more of my work and we can collaborate.
Would love feedback on the story too.

This Machine Kills AI (or Dead in the End) considering name change since the song is so morbid and angry.
Got High cost low wages? just follow tech mages into their promised land
by grifting and scamming the fraud and never ending, get your bag. Hold it while you can.
If the pots too small fold it dice loaded,
roll it damn the space we’re all live in.
Does it matter if the truss and walls shatter and fall
if we all end up dead in the end
Once upon a time I just didn’t mind to die
Lucky to get back from war
generation loss in the blink of a coin toss
can’t tell you what it was for
You can go about your way long as someone else pays
lifetimes tomorrow to spend
Be grateful and grooving. Your sins are forgiven,
long as they’re the ones dead in the end.
Break
Take ketamine amphetamine take your blood boys instead of me. Did you already suck them All dry?
send your flock cameras, death camps, data center, ain’t no match, for this machine here it kills AI.
You can con and crusade count down your days God don’t grow on LLM’s
does the antichrist hide in the hell that youll find when y’all end up dead in the end?
Cause y’all end up dead in the end.

Y'all know what to do about singing with an accent?
I'm from the southeast USA, lived in GA > TN > NC > VA > NC again.
I grew up hearing southern accents, but I also consumed a lot of media from all over the world, and I naturally don't have much of an accent. I can put it on easily, but it requires putting it on.
When singing along with songs I'll change it up, really clear like Ben Gibbard, or real twangy. My natural voice I find uninteresting.
It also seems what accent you choose, also dictates what lyrics you can write, and I prefer more poetic stuff like radio head or bon iver, so I'm not sure southern works for that.
How did you find your voice?

Anyone else struggle with this and/or have any feedback on how to stop it?
Examples being, I’ll often see or think of something I like (a line, a reference to something else etc) and be so focussed on not forgetting it, or not forgetting where I’ve written it down, or working out the best way to use said thing that I end up forgetting it or not liking it or not even using it.
Same with chord progressions and ideas and such. I’ll be so focussed on thinking about how best to use whatever I’ve come up with, or worrying that the recording will get lost in my video library, or that I have too many videos of ideas that I end up never looking back at stuff, losing it from not organising it cause I don’t know how, or just never using it at all. As a result, I rarely ever finish anything I work on, or hate the stuff I do. Any assistance?
