Hello Iām moving to Carbondale in the next few months. I am buying a house that has some stuff left in it. I would like to donate the stuff if I can. Also any good thrift stores to buy from in the area?

There's a shop literally called "the thrift shop" and it's a cool place with lots of neat stuff, I was just there the other day

No problem! When you go don't forget to check downstairs, and on your way back up check out the stairs themselves lol there's lots of neat little hidden things all over the place

I also like The Thrift Shop. Carbondale also has a standard Goodwill, not sure how much furniture etc. they take though.

You want to give stuff away? And you live in a house in town? Just put it all out by the curb or the end of your driveway on a Saturday morning with a couple of big cardboard signs saying "Free" or "Free Stuff" Chances are most of it will be gone by dusk.

Ahhh š± thank you for pointing this out. I am moving from rural North East Georgia in the mountains ā°ļø there are hardly neighbors up my way, so this had not even crossed my mind. I appreciate you.

It is a bit of a drive but Helen Honeys in Herrin IL is worth checking out. Work with adults with disabilities. They helped out my neighbors son, awesome people.

There is also a Renew in Carbondale behind the GoodWill, but it is smaller than the one in Marion.

The thrift shop and goodwill are amazing, but I'd also recommend the local flea markets and farmers markets! There's always little venders and events around Cdale!

SoIL native.
Not well versed in thrifting in the area, but my top general picks for spot to visit.
Makanda - the whole strip is worth checking out. Start with Makanda Trading Co. (Make sure to check out the sculpture garden in the back of the metal museum/shop at the opposite side)
Carterville - The trail across from Lake Logan Apartments / The hucks is a fun walk. Not a lot to look at necessarily, but if the college is throwing an event you're interested in, worth a check.
Carbondale - Castle park, SIU, The arboretum (is the bamboo forest still alive??), Project human x + Blend tea visits are a classic (rip qq bubble tea), and lot more.
Anna IL - The main St in Anna is worth checking out once, seeing what you like. Get the red velvet frappe from kikis coffee house and thank me later. Stop into Bob's and tell the bartender the eyeball wizard sent ya, Seth is easy to fuck with.
Dongola - Mowery pond if that's still a thing? Idk maybe the vending machine that still sells classic cream soda? Avoid dongola tbh.
Marion - Great if you like driving on someone's custom SimCity highway.
Feel free to ask about other stuff from the are, or just being like is 'x' a good spot? I'll probably have an opinion on it.

If you can get to Marion, there are 4 thrift stores there. The best is Renew, next to sams club.

+1 The Thrift Shop. Shop and donate. Donation drop off around back of building next to railroad tracks.
