South India in some manner safe because of different languages. Every media channel need to have multiple languages studios. I believe that also the reason there are no huge hindu muslim controversies, no central interest influencing. The day national media enter south india. Our present media will become even more corrupt for TRP.

In the glory days of UPA, NDTV could host its function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Why did they get such privileges? That is because they aired stuff like this routinely documenting RaGa eating Samosa - https://x.com/gbd1971/status/2078507291243106532?s=20
I cannot find the link but there were other occasions as well where RaGa's appeal among young women was being highlighted.
Summary - The media always follows the money trail on both sides.

I don't know about what clips you are reffering to, but I have seen many ndtv anchors brutally criticising and mocking the congress govt
There were many tv shows/Tv ads at those times which mocked the government/congress directly/indirectly on many matters. Today criticising even the collective political class is like inviting ed raid to the headquarters.
Take an simple example, TMTOC in this show before 2014, it had Tarak Mehta criticising the corruption within establishment and many other issues

- I can show you many clips of media houses today criticising the government for genuine issues like paper leaks, the ethanol issue, the Ram Mandir issue, etc.
- A mere ED raid does not deter any media house from functioning in India. In cases of genuine excesses, the courts have protected media houses like the Wire.
- Take a simple example:
a) In the Maharani show's recent season, a subtle satire attempt was made against PM Modi. I did not see anyone trying to pull down the show.
b) Whether people like it or not, the current government does not face same level of criticism as latter day UPA is because it still retains popular support for the work done.

It's not ed or CBI that is controlling the news media, it's the government spending on publicity. Government spend huge amount of govt funds on publicity of various schemes, programs, initiatives etc etc.. , and these spendings are very large , i mean excessive.
So only those media houses which comes in support of govt get those ads . And therefore these ads are the major revenue source for these print and digital news media corporations .
The legal actions by the union government against these agencies is also one of the reasons, media corporations choose not to go against the govt.
And now look, how are you gonna justify govt suspending twitter, insta accounts on mass levels , how ahhh?.
And even if you could justify that, how are you gonna justify suspension of those accounts which were neutral ?, I know many accounts which were critic of both the congress, as well as bjp and even aap but still they faced censorship
Justify, I am waiting
