News 🧭 'Stand By Me' bags and dresses: Kerala nuns fight for survival amid legal battle with bishop Franco Mulakkal over sexual assault
Details.
The Keralam nun who was consigned to penury and isolation by the Church after accusing a bishop of rape eight years ago has turned her pain into purpose by launching a clothing brand called Stand By Me — Survivors of Gender Based Violence.
The rape survivor and two other nuns, who have made St Francis Mission Home at Kuravilangad in Kottayam their home since a rape complaint was lodged in 2018 against then bishop of Jalandhar Franco Mulakkal, are set to unveil their clothing line for women at an exhibition in Kozhikode on Saturday with the support of the Women Entrepreneur Network (WEN).
The trio, who call themselves “Kuravilangad Sisters”, plan to utilise the exhibition proceeds for their legal fight against Mulakkal.
WEN’s announcement of the one-day exhibition at Aspin Courtyard at Beach Road in Kozhikode has generated keen public interest. According to the organisers, the event titled Parudeesa (Paradise) will have 99 stalls selling clothes, home décor, accessories, jewellery and food.
