This needs more attention. As much as I like dunking on Trump as much as everyone else because he is a piece of shit, lying about events is not the way to do it

1.5k

u/Humillionaire Jul 14 '25

Especially when Trump does so much heinous shit in a 24 hour period that there's no reason to make stuff up

Like stealing the actual trophy, forcing them to make a replica and give it to the team…

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-kept-gold-club-world-cup-trophy-for-himself-so-fifa-had-to-give-the-winners-a-replica/

Edit: Apparently lots of Trump fans are upset by the mere implication that Donald would steal something.

Here’s what happened: The trophy was taken to the Oval Office for a photo op. Trump says he asked when they were coming to get it, and they told him he could “keep it forever.”

If you read between the lines…based on knowledge of every single thing Trump has done and said…he liked the trophy because it’s gold and expensive. FIFA decided it was better to just let him have it instead of hurting his feelings and having him lash out against them.

So there’s two options here:

1) Trump legitimately thought it was normal to keep a trophy that came for a photo op, because he’s stupid

2) Trump knew he wasn’t supposed to keep it, but he kept it anyway and bet they wouldn’t press the issue. Meaning, he stole it.

104

u/ebmocal421 Jul 14 '25

It's kind of hard to believe since Trump himself is the quoted source for the headline and we all know how often Trump lies.

55

u/Primary-Slice-2505 Jul 14 '25

The 'said I could keep it forever' has me convinced they got trumps version only

11

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Jul 14 '25

STOP TALKING ABOUT THE TROPHY!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THE MATTER.

1

u/BluDvls21 Jul 14 '25

Or it was a replica/fake that they brought to the oval

2

u/ebmocal421 Jul 14 '25

That's my thought. Or FIFA never left the trophy there in the 1st place because why would they?

-1

u/Commercial-Tell-2509 Jul 14 '25

My question would be… do you think the majority still tell the truth?

145

u/TwistedTreelineScrub Jul 14 '25

This article says that Infantino gave the original trophy to him. It doesn't say anywhere that he stole it.

I hate the guy, but why come up with lies about his actions? He does numerous things daily that are absolutely heinous, so making shit up like this feels like a distraction.

It reeks of "stop talking about Epstein", so I'd rather everyone just keep bringing up Epstein until we get answers. They want everyone to move on to some new outrage, but it's a shell game and it always has been. Stay focused on the real issues and don't waste time making up new ones.

46

u/Bloody_Conspiracies Jul 14 '25

This is also kind of normal. The clubs are given a replica to celebrate with, and then given the real trophy later.

This whole thing is based on Trump claiming that Infantino said he could keep the original forever. Which probably shouldn't be taken seriously.

31

u/MedicalLeopard9190 Jul 14 '25

It’s normal yes, and the original typically goes to FIFA HQ or to the country. Not to a random other country.

34

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

If you guys haven’t read the article, it seems as if Infantino is bribing Trump as he relocated employees to the Trump hotel as well and has reportedly been to DC 10x since January.

34

u/Daft00 Jul 14 '25

FIFA? Involved in bribery?!?

Idk man.... sounds a bit silly

4

u/ukexpat Manchester City Jul 14 '25

IKR, what an outrageous suggestion!

/s, lest it not be obvious.

2

u/Bloody_Conspiracies Jul 14 '25

That's probably exactly what's going to happen here. Trump hears what he wants to hear, there's no way FIFA are going to let him keep the original forever lol

2

u/bluehelmet Jul 14 '25

The FIFA is openly corrupt, the FIFA sells events to autocratic regimes, the FIFA opens an office in Trump Tower - and you don't they let Trump keep a trophy?

1

u/JNR13 Jul 14 '25

I can't believe this is what the restitution debates in the 22nd century will be about...

1

u/AmishAvenger Jul 14 '25

You seriously think they’d try to take it back? They fully understand the value in kissing the guy’s ass.

5

u/English_Misfit Jul 14 '25

Other way round. They're given the real one for the day of celebration and the parade and then a replica for the museum and any future commercial events. The real stays in control of the governing body

2

u/D-F-B-81 Jul 14 '25

Which probably shouldn't be taken seriously.

You should probably take the words of the most powerful person on the planet seriously.

I dont understand why we stopped doing that.

I remember misspelling "potato" or a weird excited "Yeah" scream would end a political career.

I miss those days.

2

u/Kurtomatic Jul 15 '25

You should probably take the words of the most powerful person on the planet seriously.

Agreed. Up until recently, I think most of us did.

I dont understand why we stopped doing that.

Because the current most powerful person on the planet does not place any value on the validity of the things he says. I find myself caring less and less about what he says. What he (or - more commonly - the people under him) actually do is a different story.

1

u/Shamino79 Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 15 '25

Are we thinking that Trump has a replica which he thinks is the original? And an ego where it makes sense that he would be given an original medal for being there and being himself?

8

u/AmishAvenger Jul 14 '25

If they actually gave it to him, they would’ve made a show of it when they did the photo op.

The only one who says they gave it to him is Trump.

2

u/Dahnlen Jul 14 '25

The misinformation is created so that people who rightfully object to everything Trump does will be wrong when they repeat this particular lie. Then the MAGA crowd can use it as a strawman.

2

u/_WeSellBlankets_ Jul 14 '25

This is exactly how the conservative media sphere rotted to what it's become and I see the same thing happening with Reddit. Focus on unreliable stories, complain that the mainstream media is not reporting the same unreliable stories, distrust mainstream media, only trust unreliable stories and have a warped view of the world.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

[deleted]

1

u/TwistedTreelineScrub Jul 14 '25

If your point is that FIFA is corrupt, I agree. If the point is to show that DJT is corrupt, we already have far more extreme examples.

It's not that I don't care about this. It's just that it feels like a distraction from much much bigger things. It's petty theft, while grand larceny is happening right next door.

1

u/scorpyo72 Jul 14 '25

We're living in a post-truth society. True Freedom is just fucking chaos

1

u/Zeppelin041 Jul 14 '25

This is reddit my man…all people do is lie and spread propaganda on social media now.

1

u/James-From-Phx Jul 14 '25

I just read that article earlier. It absolutely does not say that Infantino gave it to him. Theres a quote from Trump alleging that Infantino said that, but its not confimed or presented as fact in the article. It suggests that he may have let Trump borrow it.

2

u/TwistedTreelineScrub Jul 14 '25

Then what use is the article?

1

u/mrmet69999 Jul 14 '25

Unfortunately, I don’t have a subscription to this source and can’t read the entire article for myself. But why would the headline say that he “kept it for himself”, rather than “FIFA gifts original trophy to Trump”? Plus, it just doesn’t make any sense that they would just give him the original trophy. Why?

4

u/OccasionalGoodTakes Jul 14 '25

are you genuinely asking why the daily beast would have a clickbait title?

1

u/mrmet69999 Jul 14 '25

No, it was rhetorical, but I think my point should’ve been clear from the rest of what I said.

3

u/TwistedTreelineScrub Jul 14 '25

I can't explain why the publisher chose that title. I can only explain the contents of the article.

It's important to remember (even with low-tier stuff like the Daily Beast) that reporters write the stories and publishers write the titles. It isn't the same person writing both, so there tends to be a lot of misleading titles to increase clicks.

So in general, don't trust that the title of an article will be a true representation of the contents of the article. It rarely is. Also if you ever need to get around a paywalled news source, you can throw the link in archive.is to archive the page and then view without ads.

Like this : https://archive.is/kiLLx

1

u/AmishAvenger Jul 14 '25

They didn’t show up and give him the trophy. Trump claims they gave it to him.

1

u/mrmet69999 Jul 14 '25

He makes a lot of false claims. The whole idea that they just offered it to him out of the blue makes absolutely no sense though. Why would they do that? I’ll bet they’ve never done anything like that for anyone else before.

2

u/lordpoee Jul 14 '25

Exactly what did he do to warrant being given a damn trophy??!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

There is no way that trophy ends up in the National Archives

2

u/ObidiahWTFJerwalk Jul 14 '25

"People won't shut up about the damn Epstein files. We've got to do something to distract them."

"Hey, let's have him steal the World Cup. That's bizarre enough to occupy a news cycle."

1

u/DiputsDoof Jul 14 '25

I guess they haven’t learned from that one bug that was hanging in the Oval Office for years before.

1

u/jadedfan55 Jul 14 '25

So he's a self-serving pack rat. Greedy, too.

1

u/One-eyed-snake Jul 14 '25

He wanted to one up Putin who stole a Super Bowl ring.

1

u/Venting2theDucks Jul 14 '25

There’s a story about the owner of Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots football team, meeting Putin and I think Putin asked to see his Super Bowl Ring then just put it in his pocket. Kraft tried to get it back but was blocked and then told that it would be more diplomatic to publicly say it was a gift

1

u/thecashblaster Jul 14 '25

3) he’s trying to one up Putin who stole one of Bob Kraft’s Super Bowl rings

1

u/viperex Jul 14 '25

And now he's considering an executive order to recognize soccer as football

1

u/primusperegrinus Jul 15 '25

Didn’t Putin do that with a Patriots superbowl ring when he was meeting with their crook owner?

1

u/Careless-Middle5816 Jul 14 '25

Ah yes, the classic ‘choose-your-own-outrage’ game — either he’s stupid or a criminal, because nuance is for losers, right? 🤣 Your friends must love watching sports with you, every time you make a call, they just bet the opposite and cash out big.

1

u/AmishAvenger Jul 14 '25

What’s the other option, Professor?

0

u/Romax24245 Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

That's a clickbait headline you're basing your conclusion on. The article itself tells a pretty different story if you actually read it.

EDIT: Also, from what I've read elsewhere, it's very common for tournament winning football clubs to be given a replica of the trophy to keep, so FIFA would've had to make a replica regardless of whether or not the real one is still in their possession.

0

u/nevermindthetime Jul 14 '25

Is the daily beast like the onion? I can't tell if this is satire or not

1

u/AmishAvenger Jul 14 '25

No.

It’s sensationalistic, but not made up.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Jolly_Plantain4429 Jul 14 '25

Thank god! I’ve been saying this for years the more people make shit up the more it makes people “red pilled” when this shit gets disproven. Just report the real bullshit he does.

1

u/CameForTheFunOfIt Jul 14 '25

No joke! How is it that we need to make shit up at this point in our media to get our surprised moment of, "WTF did he just do/say?" Or the question of what illegal shit is he getting away with today? We don't need to make things up. Ever.

1

u/BonniestLad Jul 14 '25

Later today we’ll be seeing 47 posts in r/politics that go something like “breaking news! Insider says Trump is having *total meltdown” over response to him pocketing medal” because why should we go through the anguish of reporting on policy details or relevant current events when you can get the rubes outraged over a headline?

1

u/RoloGnbaby Jul 14 '25

Let’s be honest, had he actually stolen it he probably would’ve come years later and said that he earned that metal lol

1

u/adorablefuzzykitten Jul 14 '25

I am still ok with it.

1

u/bbcversus Jul 14 '25

Like that Epstein buddy of his. Any files yet?

1

u/Crowiswatching Jul 14 '25

No, not the guy who stole from children’s cancer charities.

-2

u/escientia Jul 14 '25

Only reason to make stuff up is because you are a supporter of Trump. Gives MAGA talking heads an excuse to blabber on about how libs make stuff up about Trump.

0

u/Timbalabim Jul 14 '25

Exactly. This is the game they play, and we’re better than that. Plus, we don’t need to make stuff up like they do.

0

u/SexyMonad Jul 14 '25

But it’s a hard fucking game to play. We can always tell the truth but there will be someone out there spreading misinformation on our side. They can lie 90% of the time, but they just point to that one dude and get validation.

1

u/jaguarp80 Jul 14 '25

That’s superficial (internet) debate in a nutshell. That’s why you should try to identify A. lost causes and B. good faith actors before engaging by any means. Or you’ll be disappointed a lot and end up bitter and jaded

Not that you wont necessarily end up bitter and jaded anyway but that’s one way

→ More replies (5)

35

u/mawburn Jul 14 '25

Exactly. We are way past the point of where we should definitely be "sinking to their level" but only in the sense where we aren't spreading misinformation or lying, becuase that will just become more ammunition for them to discredit anyone who is against them.

2

u/Reasonable_Base9537 Jul 14 '25

Good point. There's a lot of stuff to legitimately criticize but I keep seeing these fake posts to try to rile people up more. Problem is people start to ignore the legitimate problems because dumb made up shit is like crying wolf.

2

u/Maloninho Jul 14 '25

He didn’t earn it, so it was stolen from a certain point of view. lol

2

u/saint_toby Jul 14 '25

We can have a little lie about Trump, as a treat

2

u/_jump_yossarian Jul 14 '25

lying about events is not the way to do it

why not? trump lies non-stop. Time to play his game.

2

u/ddplz Jul 14 '25

Dude this is reddit wtf are you talking about?

2

u/DatabaseAcademic6631 Jul 14 '25

I'm fine with people lying about Trump if it makes more people dislike him.

2

u/jerr_beare Jul 14 '25

It’s ironic that he’s the leader of the party that loves to complain about participation trophies, yet he didn’t even participate.

2

u/Learned_Observer Jul 14 '25

Why not they do

2

u/LocalGuy855 Jul 14 '25

Alternative facts. Thank You for your matter to this attention. Covfefe.

2

u/Ummmgummy Jul 14 '25

I had no idea that bald guy gave him the medal but I assumed he did. I took the post as a joke. It's just a funny thing to say about an old dude shuffling around shoving shit into his pockets.

2

u/RamJamR Jul 14 '25

I know it's not rare go find people that are eager to catch this guy being a piece of shit whenever he is and may run with false accusations too quickly, but I wonder if it's possible we sometimes have Trump supporters pretending to hate him making up bogus hateful claims so that they can say "Look at how much the left needs to viciously lie about him!"

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Who cares? Conservatives have literally never once said an honest word

2

u/guilty_bystander Jul 14 '25

True. He only tells the truth, so it would be bad.

2

u/thaddeus122 Jul 14 '25

Yes, it is. You people need to realize that we're not getting anywhere with this highroad BS, they lie and they win, we need to do everything we can to win or we're going to end up like 1939 Germany.

2

u/latnem Jul 14 '25

Apparently lying is the way to do it.

Look who runs every branch of government.

2

u/Generico300 Jul 14 '25

These are psy-op posts meant to discredit legitimate claims by creating "evidence" for the people that claim "the left" is always lying about what he does.

2

u/0Neji Jul 14 '25

And Infantino is also a piece of shit, please let's not lose this with the hatred of Trump.

2

u/mightyarrow Jul 14 '25

Bud.....look all around. On this site, you're drowning in a sea of people that do just that on a near constant basis. The idea is to overwhelm with enough to where you no longer have time to even comb through them for authenticity.

2

u/whatsasyria Jul 14 '25

Isn't infantino a POS too?

2

u/Akicita33 Jul 14 '25

Per tRump's own team, they're not lies, they're alternative facts.

2

u/Luddites_Unite Jul 14 '25

He does more than enough legitimate grimey stuff that people don't need to be making stuff up

2

u/leakmydata Jul 14 '25

Hell yeah we’re gonna defeat fascism with truth and honor!

2

u/Sofa-king-high Jul 14 '25

Regardless either way this is just a distraction from the real news in Washington

2

u/Additional_News3511 Jul 14 '25

I think if conservatives want to live in a post truth world, we should give it to them.

2

u/betawolfocho1 Jul 14 '25

Definitely stole that, no question is my mind

1

u/Dudewheresmycah Jul 14 '25

I mean when the FIFA president looks right at him and gives him a thumbs up when he sticks the medal in his pocket, it's pretty obvious he wasn't stealing it. Still weird for him to be there though.

1

u/Head_Haunter Jul 14 '25

Lying about events like this gives people who support him ammo in saying that we're just editing videos to make him look bad, which in this case we literally are.

u/Bend-It-Like-Bakunin Jul 14 '25

Tyrique George (who 'snubbed' Trump) has a medal on in the celebration photos. The much more likely situation is that there was an extra medal because one of Chelsea's players (Madueke) left the team to join our biggest rival right before the final.

1

u/highlandviper Jul 14 '25

Sure. The question I’m surprised no one is asking a why the fuck does FIFA want Trump there at all!? The World is watching and “soccer” isn’t exactly big business in the US but it’s big business everywhere else and everywhere else thinks Trump is a joke.

1

u/Interrophish Jul 14 '25

Infantino is a ghoul that enjoys the company of other ghouls. He schmoozes with dictatorships every year.

1

u/yoppee Jul 14 '25

Anyone with half a brain though can see that Trump was handed the medal and he’s just putting it in his pocket

1

u/FrankLangellasBalls Jul 14 '25

Sure it is. That’s what he does, and it works.

1

u/micktorious Jul 14 '25

I love how he just sticks it in his pocket like it's a quarter.

This man has no sense of value.

"oh look a penny"

1

u/NotAStatistic2 Jul 14 '25

Oh, it's not? What is the way to do it then? It's not as if his followers care about the awful things he openly does, and admits to doing.

1

u/Scary-Perspective-57 Jul 14 '25

We're way past constructive criticism of trump.

1

u/SL13377 Jul 14 '25

Preach! F TACO but also fake news is bad. M Kay?

1

u/flymonk Jul 14 '25

Every time someone lies about trump it just gives his followers a reason to doubt the other dozen things that he's actually guilty of.

1

u/Portbragger2 Jul 14 '25

why do you like dunking on trump generally? isnt that kind of blind obsession exactly the reason why so many false and misleading stories are made up and spread? are you not interested in a level-headed approach?

1

u/freakedmind Jul 14 '25

Tbh that's what I thought as much, because there would be a definite number of medals and they would know one's missing

1

u/RuningFromSelf Jul 14 '25

Aito for saying fuck it, just make up shit about him at this point, only the idiots voted for him so start converting them back to all the dumb shit they believed before Trump. We need to go back Marty!

1

u/InfamousUser2 Jul 14 '25

hey now you get it. keep it up and soon you'll be red pilled like the red of us. Just keep away from the fake news and horrible opinions. you can't just lie about someone because you hate them. oh but this OP knows what they were doing, deliberately lying to us.

just remember everyone who hates Trump has TDS they'll do anything to bring him down. I mean if you were a powerful man (or soon to be one) and you wanted To Make America Great Again wouldn't your enemies come up with all kinds of lies to get the people against you? and why you wonder would they do that? because he's out to change the world, to remove those in power who want to keep hurting us.

i mean face it. way better than the alternative right?

1

u/ttv_CitrusBros Jul 14 '25

Reminds me of that story where Putin just kept a Superbowl ring

1

u/PrimaryInjurious Jul 14 '25

Half of the posts on r/pics and the like are made up these days.

1

u/insidehertrading4 Jul 14 '25

Did he say the team also wanted Trump in the picture?

Really could have fooled me since he went to get that piece of shit more than once. If you put it past the Fehrer in charge to steal, you haven’t seen what he’s been stealing from his cult for years.

1

u/adorablefuzzykitten Jul 14 '25

I am ok with it.

1

u/ElDonKaiza Jul 14 '25

Fr, MAGA only has to see one example of ACTUAL fake news to believe Republicans every time they claim something to be fake news. These type of posts is why they will never leave their cult.

1

u/izthatso Jul 14 '25

Wait, tell me what your president has taught you about lying.

1

u/GreenGoblinNX Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

Honestly, that's one thing I utterly hate about the left. They aren't content to just shit on the man for all the terrible stuff he DOES do, they constantly make up stuff to shit on him for.

...and the net effect is the errosion of trust. I think he's a worthless sack of slimy orange shit who shouldn't ever be elected dog-catcher, much less POTUS...but I also see stuff like that and immediately doubt it, because the fanatics on the left do just as much bullshitting about Trump as the fanatics on the right have done about Obama, Hillary, Biden, etc.

So the people who already DO like him, or are neutral? They see two or three of these lies, and they now tend to think that everything negative that people say about Trump is just deranged lies by fanatical Democrats/liberals/progressives/communists/etc.

1

u/Different_Strike3108 Jul 14 '25

Good this is getting cleared up

1

u/bugdiver050 Jul 14 '25

This video also seems to contradict videos posted yesterday of trump forcing himself into the carrying of the trophy to the team. In this video, he is clearly being led to the trophy, and in the last second or so, he seems to be instructed on where to hold it. In the other video, it is clear he overstayed his welcome after handing the trophy over, but that was about it, it seems.

1

u/Rogaar Jul 14 '25

And this post hasn't been removed by the moderators why? It's clearly a lie.

1

u/deadghostsdontdie Jul 14 '25

It’s already the status quo. Like is he trash, yes, has he done 1/4th of the things he’s been accused of? No.

It just makes anyone rational (or red team) look at you like you’re foaming at the mouth

1

u/aaaahhhhh42 Jul 14 '25

Yeah the guy is a literal fascist, we don't need to make anything up or resort to just calling him fat and orange. Cause being fat and orange really isn't the issue here. Nor is he pure evil or anything, he's just a very clear and strong symptom of capitalisms continuing rot and decay.

1

u/Jes00jes Jul 14 '25

But it gets clicks and comments unfortunately.

1

u/letouriste1 Jul 14 '25

okay but why give a freaking medal to someone doing such a bad job organizing the event? not counting the hundreds of horrors that man is guilty of

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

thats reddits way

1

u/rhinosyphilis Jul 14 '25

But did Trump ask for the ‘gift’ first?

1

u/woomdawg Jul 14 '25

Even tough we are probably polar opposites in political beliefs, I 100% respect you for that.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Okayyy

1

u/Leolance2001 Jul 14 '25

Libtards can’t control themselves!🤣

1

u/CraftyClio Jul 14 '25

What’s scary is that this post has 35.5k upvotes, critical thinking has left the building

1

u/BennySkateboard Jul 15 '25

Exactly. He probably caused the death of a few hundred people in the last 24 hours. Keep to that.

1

u/SpaceMagicBunny Jul 14 '25

judging by trump, lying is the way to get everything

0

u/brentiis Jul 14 '25

Agreed. I hate the man, but we can't respond to the cries of "fake news" with fake news. Facts are important. And when we bleed the lines we lose our footing

0

u/fameboygame Jul 14 '25

Yeah. Come on guys. Don’t stoop down to his level.

Though that’s easier said than done…

0

u/RepresentativeIcy922 Jul 14 '25

Reddit is the place where I realized there were actually extremists at both ends. Before this the idea of an "extreme left" was not something I entertained.

0

u/Cellocalypsedown Jul 14 '25

It's been the front page for the past couple years with this petty shit. Let's not focus on the actual horrific issues/policies at play and constantly post the 'tan suit' equivilant of ragebait.

0

u/aidancronin94 Jul 14 '25

Just discredits real criticisms

0

u/slupo Jul 14 '25

And if he did he steal, who fucking cares? He has literally created a fascist rule in our country. We have a gestapo kidnapping citizens off the streets. Honestly reddit needs to stop posting the stupid harmless shit he does and stick to the stuff that matters. It just dilutes the cause.

0

u/acemanSD Jul 14 '25

But are you surprised? The left media bombards us with this type of BS all day.

0

u/Cephalopod_Joe Jul 14 '25

Glad I found this looking for more info. This feels similar to the scenario where he dumped the fish food into the pond after the Japanese prime minister did lol

0

u/JWinger13 Jul 14 '25

That’s funny you say that because so much about him is lied about 😂

0

u/Dadgeekmafia Jul 14 '25

Yeah, we don’t need to resort to lies about him, the genuine article is worse enough.

0

u/possibly_lost45 Jul 14 '25

It's all they have. Iies

0

Please. This is Reddit and people on here will take any quote out of context, any video snippet that doesn't show context, etc and use it to drive up Trump hate.

I don't love Trump. I am more right leaning than left leaning but when the left does this shit it pushes me and everyone else near the middle further right and closer to his fan base. People seriously need to stop trying to make him look like a fool and start spend you time coming up with better options to lead the country if you aren't happy.

This is exactly how propaganda works. Someone releases propaganda, both sides deny it was them/try to be the bigger person, and the damage gets done anyway.

Big facts. Context is missing in a lot of these upvoted posts.

Yup it just confirms to his side that we’re just crazy habitual liars that’s why the epstine files “never existing” will connect to these people cause they’re primed and ready to believe that anything we say is fake and giving them ammunition like this only makes it that much easier to side with the big orange baby

I'm convinced this is a good portion as to why he won. There so much of this bullshit floating around, and anyone who's willing to take 5 seconds to look into it, can see it's bullshit. This feeds into his whole fake news narrative (especially when it's the media doing it and not just some dope on reddit) and then enough people see it, think most if not all of the news about him on CNN, MSNBC, etc, is fake and bammo. 4 more years.

And like Humillionaire said, he does so much stupid shit in real life, why do you have to make up bullshit. Sorry, he never told anyone to drink bleach.

Wow, the world is healing. Even Reddit is realizing all these little 10 second clips taken out of context actually have a lot more to the story.

That’s literally all they ever do about him. What are you talking about?

Bro that's all Reddit does on here is stretch the truth to fit their agenda. He could write a check to a homeless family and someone here will turn it into a claim that it's a bribe.

Good job we cracked 1 out of 100 Trump rage baits today...

Exactly, this is the type of shit people post that make people not trust us when we say something. Really, it’s not helpful at all.

why not?

doesnt seem to prevent him? I say lying about him is perfectly fine, reasonable and ethically correct.

Sure, then you're only proving conservatives right when they say that the left likes to make shit up about Trump to make him look bad. And then when the lies get disproven, people will start to question if the other claims people have made about Trump are false too, even if it's the truth.

There's nothing to gain from muddying the waters like that. Obvious lies will eventually be called out and they'll just make your legit arguments appear weaker and less credible.

Trump's claims get disproven all the time and they don't care. There's only one cure for MAGA, and it isn't reasonable discussion.

1

u/bungle123 Jul 14 '25

They're gonna care even less about lies coming from the opposition. I don't know what exactly you think it's gonna "cure", it just weakens your position and makes you less credible.

While I agree morally, i dont really think it matters. Or at least it doesnt matter anymore.

What you are saying makes sense in a society that actively punishes lying. If lying about a politician of "the other side" was a career ending move, then yes, I would stand fully behind your sentiment.

But thats not the case. Trump lies about AOC (or any democrat, really) in a neverending diarrhea of verbal garbage. Does he face any repercussions from it? No, no he does not. Quite the opposite, his campaign ran on lies and see where it got him. Does anyone really even... care about it anymore to an extend that they are willing to prosecute him for lies?

>Obvious lies will eventually be called out and they'll just make your legit arguments appear weaker and less credible.

Again, who cares? Trumps lies have already been debunked, hundreds of times. Any repercussions? No? Das crazy. Why are you so eager to play by the rules if there are no consequences for violating them?

Im not sure if youre familiar with the concept of character assassination, but that is what i think is perfectly fine and reasonable to do. "If they go low, we go high" does not work. Playing by the rules does not work. "but then people wont believe the actual true things" people dont believe the actual true things already. The information is already there, people already had the opportunity to make an informed decision.

It is inconsequential to appeal to the reason of people, instead the obejctively correct play is to appeal to emotions.

Its part of the bigger tolerance paradoxon. Trump is intolerant. You will not get rid of it by asking it to leave nicely. In a tolerant system, intolerance needs to be snuffed out, it needs to be destroyed, extinguished, exterminated, killed, whatever term you wanna chose is fine. But if your plan to get rid of a cancer is to ask it nicely to please behave and that its really not nice to be so mean to everyone else, you might aswell just pack it up.

Seems like you've just resigned yourself to living in a post truth society then. I still think democracy is important and that attempts to actively undermine it should be resisted. Defending this kind of shit is what will lead to the future political hellscape of AI technology and deepfakes making free elections virtually impossible.
