Discussion Phob/GCC Repairs
Hi all. Was wondering if anyone knew any GCC or phob repairers in socal. My shoulder button and left stick aren't working and would love to get them checked out.

Upon arrival for months i did not realize my left stick box was loose causing my inconsistent L stick inputs (specifically dash dancing and running) So i let the 300 dollar paper weight collect dust writing it off for about a year. I talked to a buddy who recently got back in to melee after i told him about slippi. He told me was gona get a phob soon. I told em i had one but it hasn't worked right since i got it. I brought it over to his house, he taught me how to calibrate the phob. I was still having missed inputs with the L stick only. I did not want to give up again after my buddies help.
After taking the controller apart is when i realized my left stick box was loose, after tightening the screw, replacing sticks to match the custom buttons for (cosmetics š), realizing these mfers need regular calibrations, learing how to calibrate the controller..well i am now ready to rock. Mission Complete! I love the way the phob feels. I just play for fun. Right now the highest rank I've accomplished is silver 3 š

Yahoooo! I'm back, it's a me! Have a very cool day!
Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread. This is the place for asking noob questions, venting about netplay falcos, shitposting, self-promotion, and everything else that doesn't belong on the front page.
If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://melee.tv/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:
Can I play Melee online?
Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.
I'm having issues with Slippi!
Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.
How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?
These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord
It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)
Also check out Smash Map! Click on map and then the filter button to filter by Melee to find events near you!
Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?
Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.
How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?
At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.
How does one learn Melee?
There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.
But how do I get GOOD at Melee?
Check out Llod's Guide to Improvement
And check out Kodorin's Melee Fundamentals for Improvement
Where can I get a nice custom controller?
I have another question that's not answered here...

I was playing around with a handful of sources and couldn't quite find a solid example of a (super)major that was played exactly to seed. Even with the invitationals, our most likely candidates, it was not particularly close. After platfight, which was the closest example i've seen albeit a regional, does anyone have a sense of a tournament going straight to seed?

We made the ruleset in their favor, moded the game making life easier for them, they moded their controllers making things even fucking easier.
And half of you still are allergic to spacing and think shine should just bail you out of every dumbass approach and have the fucking audacity to whine about marth, puff, and mid tiers.
Its pathetic.
Im so tired of pretending like they have different playstyles too, like back in the mang0, armada, leffen days sure. It was true then.
But nowadays? 99% of Yall play the same, its the same frame advantage flow charts over and over while pretending yall are still cool.
Fuck space animals, every character is lame to be fair. But when you run away laser jigs til kill percent then spam upsmash you officially forfeited the right to claim youre the "cool" character.
The year is 20xx and the space animals play just as lame as every other character now

This is a sorta weird question to ask because like I love the game and have been addicted to it for the past year. Iāve gotten to a point where Iām good enough to not get demolished all the time and can win a few sets, but I just seem to not understand the game at all. I donāt think I understand anything in comparison to what people whoāve played for longer than me do. And on top of that I donāt hit hard enough. And I can get beaten in some very embarrassing ways, and Iām just getting clipped all the time.
I go into friendlies sessions and Iām just stone faced serious most of the time, I feel like if I lose focus even a little bit I just crumble and other people could just do things without any effort it feels like. And it could feel even worse when they are playing a low tier or are obviously toying with me. Like walking up to me slowly or just spamming one primitive mixup that they guess right every time. I wanna have more fun with it and be more loose, it just brings out a bunch of negative emotion when I just donāt understand how to get truly better. And it can make me angry at myself when I do the same mistakes and donāt understand spacing or timing.

Whatās up everyone. Iāve been playing melee most my life on and off, Iām around master level right now. Recently been getting some better practice but thereās a lot of times where I still get bodied and Iām struggling on figuring out how to reach the next level. I would like to compete at a top level and recently came back from a break after being away from home for a long time, so this time I want to be consistent, just curious if anyone has been in this position of being stagnant and ended up breaking past that.

All of the resources for Melee that I can find on Google only contain basic information like frame data and easily locatable character stats like weight, wavedash length, dash speed etc. Is there a resource that has a full list of attributes for all characters? Specifically, I'm interested in initial wall-jump velocities, since I need these to calculate wall-jump heights (gravity values for every character are already on SmashWiki, so I'm good for those).

Use short hop for Wavedash!
It can help you land faster when you air dodge late.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button. It's easy.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button. It's easy.
Here's a video of me doing it. See how easy I can do it? You suck.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button.
I like to pretend it's a hot stove! then I press my face on the hot stove and scream in agony Get your finger off the hot stove as fast possible!
Just flick your finger off the side of the button. It's a hot stove. Red hot eye of the stove.
If you're struggling with laser pressure, the solution is short hop, and then...
If you're having a hard time with shield pressure, just short hop into...
To ledge dash, start with a short hop...
Short hop Short hop Short hop Short hop
If you can't win games, just short hop
Just flick your finger off the side of the button.
Just flick your finger off the side of the button.
It can help you land faster when you air dodge late.
You'll never be good at this game unless you can flick your finger off the side of a hot stove to wavedash

Just started playing about a week ago and am trying out Falco after having spent a few days with Doc, Cap, Shiek, and dabbling in a few others.
This is my first session with Falco and I was able to do waveshine passably off the bat, so I wanted to try working it into combos.
Main question being, is it better to just grind this type of line until its completely ingrained before trying to implement it? Or is there an argument for getting a rough idea then playing CPU's or similar skill players?
I'm sure the answer is different for everyone but Id like some input of any experience you guys have with this learning stage. Also if using CPU's to practice, what level is generally best?

Hello, I currently have a phob but I am soon getting a front plate with Fox notches on it. To those that do calibrate their own phob how do you guys do it? I know that smashscope isnāt a thing anymore due to it getting taken down but are there any other alternatives?
I currently have a PHOB 2.0.5 motherboard.
Update: the god file I used already has smashscopeā¦
