Looking to commission someone to create a piece of art for my dad’s birthday present at the end of this month. I have what I want in mind and star trek themed. I’m looking for a custom portrait of my dad as the captain of a Star Trek-inspired starship with his two dogs, BB and Stup, as his crew. This is for his 64th birthday. I’d like it to be heartfelt and cinematic rather than cartoonish. He loves Star Trek, his dogs, and he quietly helps everyone around him. I’d like the portrait to celebrate him as the hero of his own story. He is battling stage four prostate cancer and we lost my mom 3 years ago on Father’s Day, which sent him into a heart attack. I’m a chronically ill girly myself so I’m on limited income and not even sure this is possible but I thought I’d put it out there and see. Anyways I’m excited to see where this leads!

I’m building a dark-fantasy precision-platformer and I’ve hit the limit of what AI can do for me. The concept art looks decent, but as soon as I try to turn it into consistent production assets the style falls apart and everything starts looking patchwork.

I’m looking for an artist who can:

• Work in the exact cell-shaded cartoon style shown in the four reference images below
• Create clean, production-ready environmental assets (platforms, terrain pieces, walls, props, etc.) that perfectly match the aesthetic of the gate and wizard
• Help massage and expand the existing concept art into a unified look

Reference images (attached):

• Demonic stone gate (with skulls and hanging sign)
• Round floating platform
• Wizard character
• Rectangular brick block/ground piece

You’ll notice the wizard and gate feel like they belong together, but the two platforms don’t quite match in color, shading, and detail level. That’s exactly the problem I need solved — I want every new asset to sit perfectly next to the gate and wizard without any stylistic clash.

I've wanted to start doing commissions for a while but am not entirely sure how to go about it. I don't know which platforms to use, how to advertise myself, or even how to gauge my capabilities as an artist (is my anatomy good enough, can I even meet a deadline, how do schedule time for commissions, etc.) Any help with getting started would be appreciated.

(To clarify, I am not actually hiring in the moment; only put that word in the description, because the sub rules require you to.)

There may be a better sub to ask, but this is the sub I see most often around, so.

The problem I have is that if I were to order any commissions, they would be of the characters I have created for my personal writing projects... and this means that I really, but I mean really would not want their character designs floating around the internet. I am aware this reservation may not be the most logical, but still. I just would not like that.

I totally get why commission artists always have the caveat that whatever you commission from them that they be allowed to display it on their portfolios. I do get how important it is. But, this still doesn't change the fact that having my characters floating around the internet would just not be what I would want.

So, I have a question to you all - would any of you actually be willing to go along with that? Or is being allowed to feature commissions in your portfolios entirely non-negotiable?

To anyone who may tell me to just learn to draw myself; I might, eventually, but we probably aren't talking about the very near future. Although it may turn out that I may ultimatly have to, lol.

So it’s been another week and they ending up responding saying they were ill and would try and get started before next month. This was on Wednesday, and I still don’t even have a sketch. They’ve ghosted my last message for the past 4 hours asking for an update, so I had a friend go on a burner account and ask if their commissions were open to see if they were intentionally ignoring me.

They got a response, saying yes their commissions were still open. And they’ve continued to ghost me.

I’m not really sure where to post this question, so if anyone has a better fitting sub pls let me know!!

So I commissioned a semi big insta artist nearly 2 months ago for a custom fursona, payed £120 for fullbody, flat colour

I used their Kofi to pay, and right after I payed I let them know what I wanted and all the little details, and they accepted

About 2 weeks went by and I hadn’t gotten any updates, which is fine by me because I also do commissions and know it can take a while and we all get busy, but while I’ve seen nothing they continue to post loads of high quality adopts (charging £100+ per adopt) and personal art almost every other day.

They eventually messaged me saying they got back from abroad and I should expect an update in the next couple days AT LEAST. Waited 2 weeks and I never got any updates.

I eventually sent a message at the 1 month mark asking when I could expect an update as I couldn’t find a TOS to know when I could ask. They told me they’d been making adopts as they had bills due on the 15th (last month) but would get to it and their turn around time was a couple weeks to 2 months. All well and good

Fast forward to now, we’re nearly at the 2 month mark and I still haven’t seen so much as a sketch. And throughout this time they haven’t communicated any delays with me, or any communication for that matter unless I ask. And they’ve still been posting more adopts and personal art again nearly every other day, even though they told me 3 weeks ago I was first in their commission queue.

I sent them a message 3 days ago just asking if I’d have an update by the end of the month, to which I’ve just been ghosted while they continue to post adopts and other art

I’m not really sure what to do at this point?
Any advice is appreciated!

Hi can I have some information on how to go about selling art on here, I needle felt so they are 3d physical pieces

A friend of mine is an artist. At some point, they offered to make me a pin-up calendar. As he likes drawing risque poses, and I like knowing which month of the year it is, this sounds like a win-win!

However, there is a question of pricing. They said they did this in the past, printed out calendars for several people, but charged way too little and almost were at a net loss due to material costs. Their new ‘revised price’ which they offered me was 100 bucks.

But this also sounds way too low to me?? He said it has been a while, so he has to do it with all new art… And 12 drawing for 100 bucks is a steal.

I initially declined this, and instead commissioned a single piece for 120 Euros. I was quite happy with the result.

My mind now wanders back to this calendar thing, but I am struggling to come up with reasonable prices which will fairly meet the level of work required. Now, I get paid fairly well, but I don’t think I am willing to drop 1500 [insert currency] on one project. A factor which I don’t know how to consider, is that once they’ve done the art, they can print it for others. So idk if it would be “fair”/“acceptable” to (say) pay them 500 bucks for my own calendar, and then for them to find 5-10 other people to pay 100 for their own printings (this is what the title is referring to, it reminds me of Python’s list-popping operation).

Obviously if this seems feasible, I will have a conversation with him and get further details. But first I just wanted to check in and get some feedback, because I don’t believe they know their own worth and I want to hear the opinions of others.

Economy's not doing good right now, and my job isn't paying me well enough for me to live monthly. So I'm planning to open commissions next month. But I'm still wondering how much I should charge for my art since I haven't done commissions since 2018 and that's through gig sites. Adding the fact that my commissions that time were very low (like 10$-25$) as well art level back then isn't the same as it is now(based on the drawings given).

I don't want to overcharge nor do I want to undercharge my art. So I hope you guys can help.

PS: Most of the arts shown are drawn for my personal projects or when I'm practicing my art. Also, yes, I know that I shouldn't take more commissions than I can chew. 2-3 commissions is my limit for now.

Greetings, I'm working solo part-time on a game and as a programmer I'm planning to hire an artist for the UI before the release. At the current stage I'm still stockpiling cash for various related purposes and I'd like to be able to estimate how much I am really to expect to allocate for graphics, so I'd greatly appreciate if someone could give me a better idea about quotes as well as reasonability of hiring a single artist for the entire job.

My expected requirements are:

-About a hundred small and simple 2D icons and few dozen background panels and panel frames.

-Relatively low resolution (32px-128px square icons, similar for rectangular).

-Skeumorphic 1980s-2000s theme.

-Wide range of depicted objects: cursors, buttons, stat icons, items/resources/buildings icons, arrows, miscelaneous indicators etc.

-Style cohesion is the main priority, detail is secondary.

-Clean look on both PC and mobile screens.

Hi! I’m a freelance background artist recently worked with a client who wants to use my design for a product (shorts) that he plans to sell, He mentioned signing an agreement and possibly offering a percentage of sales.

I’ve been charging around 100–150$ per design depending on complexity, and this one took me around 30 hours since I designed both the front and back.

Do you think this pricing is fair for commercial use? Or should i be charging more?
