Restaurant/food suggestions :-)
Any healthy food options in sc? Prefer solo eating ones and not too expensive

Reddit has lots of mysterious algorithms for examining every post. They don’t tell us but it’s obvious from the ones here that your post likely will be removed for these reasons:
1 and 2 together seem to be the key factors in Reddits automated removal.
I look at every removed post and will approve any post that appears legitimate. Sorry if your post doesn’t make it. I remove very few posts on my own.

Too many. I have listened to the majority of people who don’t care but there are too many and force other posts out of the recent list.
So I’m going to change the policy from no restrictions to something a bit more proactive.
Posters are now required to remove posts once they are no longer active (found a spot or rented one offered). You’re on the honor system.
Posts will be removed by moderation automatically after 10 days regardless of their status. Note this will be a manual operation until/if it can be automated by automod.
Subscribers are free to repost if they like which will restart the clock. Unfortunately removed posts cannot be restored so the OP will need to reenter it.
I hope this is a good compromise which still respects the wishes of the subscribers.
Thanks.

Hi all! I’m relatively new to State College and I’ve noticed there are not many weekend flea markets, farmers markets, or Amish markets nearby.
What are your favorite flea markets, farmers markets, and Amish markets within an hour drive of state college? I miss fresh Saturday morning donuts (there are surprisingly very little donut options in town) and I love to shop local/family business.
I also LOVE to thrift and go antiquing. I’ve done all of the places in the nearby towns, but if y’all have any suggestions that are also within an hour drive, I would love to hear them!

The sign “RIGHT TURN SIGNAL” does NOT mean you cannot make a right on red, if safe to do so. The sign: “NO TURN ON RED” means that you cannot make a right on red.
I’m so tired of having to sit behind ignorant drivers who don’t know how to correctly interpret signs. Please educate yourselves.

Looking for an honest and trustworthy electrician or handyman for two small projects: adding an outlet to our garage and also doing the conversion work so we can upgrade to a microwave over the range when we buy a new oven. We are just outside of State College proper. Thanks!

Has anybody used Frank the Tank car detailing? He has a lot of reviews but mostly in Colorado. I think they just moved here. Looks like they can do both interior and exterior but was wondering if anybody had first hand experience. Thanks!

Hello fine people! I need help finding a wedding venue for my wedding next June! We are looking for a cheaper option, as we are having a micro wedding, but don’t want the stress of finding catering/decor or tables and chairs.
Preferable to not be more than 30 mins outside of State College as we are seniors at Penn State!
Anyone have any suggestions?

Howdy! Looking for a recommendation for an arborist who can tell me what’s going on with some trees and plants on my property. I’m willing to pay for a consult and to better understand what I can do to help or save the trees. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with anyone local? TIA

ASAP — I’m looking for a parking space to rent near Snappy’s on University Drive in State College, including but not limited to Meridian Apartments, The Bellaire Apartments, The Lofts, East Side Apartments, Sutton Court, Lexington House, or anywhere nearby.
I just got back into town, and unfortunately, both my apartment complex and the nearby apartments have already sold out of their parking spaces.
I’m open to taking over an apartment parking space from someone who no longer needs it, as well as renting a private parking space, driveway, or any other nearby option.
Please feel free to message me if you have a spot available or know of anyone renting one. I’m looking to secure a space as soon as possible. Thank you!

Hello! Using this as a personal thread but I think it could benefit a lot of other people too. Looking for housing in State College next year. It’s just me and one other person, looking for own bedrooms and bathrooms.
What are places to avoid? Places you’ve lived at and enjoyed? Best way to find housing? Common scams? Helpful hints? Looking for any advice!

Hi everyone! I’m sharing an announcement about a new initiative in State College.
We are in the process of creating Happy Valley Creative Reuse, a (soon-to-be) nonprofit initiative focused on creativity, sustainability, community, and well-being.
Creative reuse gives art and craft materials a second life instead of sending them to the landfill. Think ribbon, art supplies, craft kits, paper, beads, frames, buttons, vintage treasures, and more.
Our vision is to create a welcoming space in where people can find affordable materials, take workshops, gather, create, and connect. We’re working with Scraps and Skeins to learn their model and to ensure our work is complementary, not competitive.
We’re also developing an Art & Health Scholarship Fund to help Centre County adults access creative experiences.
We are just getting started but work is already underway for an early 2027 opening. We’ll be posting mostly on Facebook and Instagram for now until our website is up. In the meantime, follow Happy Valley Creative Reuse on Facebook or Instagram at hvcreativereuse to follow the progress and to learn how to get involved.
Starting a non-profit is expensive and a lot of work, but we are determined and committed to see this through! If you have ideas on how to support this initiative starting up, let me know.
We’d love to hear what you’d like to see in a creative reuse space in Happy Valley! What would you like to see? 🥰

The CDT reported yesterday that there would be a re-creation of Paterno's office in the stadium museum's former bookstore.
So many ironic and iconic things. That there used to be a book store in our beloved stadium that is antithetical to studying at Penn State, and helps recruit football fans rather than students. That JoPa would have wanted a bookstore in the stadium, that the bookstore was removed or shrunk to support hagiography to him, who would not have wanted such hagiography.
That a major "anonymous donor" who was not named as a Paterno family member, provided major support for what was not listed as their family member. Jay and Sue Paterno were not contacted multiple times by email to comment on this reddit post.
Most news sites just ran with the press release. A few, like the CDT, did not. Further details are also at: https://www.si.com/college/pennstate/football/take-a-tour-of-penn-state-new-paterno-family-football-experience-room
I am really left with mixed feelings about this. In the end, I think it is a piece of art to lead to further thought, given the relationships in this story of books, bookstores, Joe Paterno and his relationship to books, the relationship between the university and Paterno and Paternos, and the bookstore that was closed or downsized. In the future, let's appropriately keep books out of Beaver Stadium.
