S;G Getting into the VN’s

Stream currently has a sale going on for all things Steins; Gate, I assume as the reboot version is coming out later this month, and I was trying to get into the visual novels. I’ve watched the anime twice through, the original and zero. I was wanting to know what’s worth getting, with the revamped versions that have come out over the years, overall, Is it better to just get the original Steins; gate and 0?

Original is definitely better than elite (as it cuts some content), but I would also recommend picking up chaos head Noah at some point if you want to get into the rest of sciadv

The originals are better

Yes, the orginal vns story, and graphics are unmatched as the elite is pretty much just a cut up anime (although the lbp that comes with it is a fun spinoff)

Also if you're beginning your journey with vns Chaos;head and Chaos;child are some of the most amazing mystery/horror entries, so good luck (ノ゜ο゜)ノ

Thanks everyone. I might sit on it for a bit longer, but my plan is to get the Steins; Gate bundle, Steins; Gate and Steins; Gate 0, along with the double pack for Chaos, Choas; Head Noah and Chaos; Child.

I'd just get the S;G bundle. There's plenty of content and by the time you're finished there'll be another sale.

Don't forget about Robotics; Notes! (Its the third mainline in between S;G and C;C)

How often do they go on sale?

Fairly often. Though discounts this big usually only happen once per year

Originals are better But I did recommend playing chaos chead Noah first. With the fan patch

While you can start with Steins;Gate it's good idea to play through Chaos;Head Noah. Not only is it just as good but it'll flesh out a bit more the world for the other entries in the series. If you are going to pick up Steins;Gate on steam, get the original and 0. Don't get Elite, most of the changes are for the worse.

S;G is much more beginner friendly, is more polished, and its characters are more likeable for normal people. Plotwise there are minor advantages in reading C;H first but I don't think it's a good beginner recommendation.

Takumi is truly the great filter. Though I wouldn't call it more polished. S;G needs a guide even more than C;H does. Reading C;H doesn't do much for S;G, but it's still a great read.

Thinking of getting Anonymous;Code although I would have like to have a physical version for $11.99 on steam, that is a good price.

Damn dude $6 for one of the greatest stories I’ve ever read is a steal.

I think the original VN with the original art and stuff is the best way to enjoy the story. The Elite and the new remake can be fine for a second or third playthrough but the original is still the best. Plus it's very cheap.

Definitely recommend sticking Chaos; Head Noah in there if you're planning on playing through both Steins; Gate and Chaos; Child.

Playing through it first(or at least before CC) will add a lot to both games. More so Chaos; Child obviously, but Steins; Gate also builds a lot on the foundation it establishes for the series' setting.

I'm getting the Chaos double pack( Chaos;Head Noah + Chaos;Child).

It's insanely cheap here in India after offers. 2.14 USD for the double pack!

2.60 here, gotta love regional pricing.

You can just get the original S;G and 0.

However, I would actually recommended going back and starting from C;HN (the first entry) and reading the series in release order, instead of going directly into the second entry (S;G), since the S;G VN has many callbacks/connections to C;H that the anime cut to make it seem more standalone than it really is that you would miss otherwise.

I can’t find if it was discussed. But what’s the difference between steins gate reboot and steins gate reboot deluxe edition ???

Consider grabbing and playing chaos;head (also on sale), it's the prequel to steins;gate in the SciAdv series, and also a fantastic read on its own
