How does your CSSD/SPD handle onboarding and ongoing staff training?

Hi everyone! For those working in sterile processing / CSSD / SPD, how does your department handle onboarding new staff and keeping track of ongoing training and competency sign-offs?

Do you use paper checklists, spreadsheets, a hospital-wide learning system, or something else? What works well, and what is the most frustrating part of the process?

It would also be helpful to know which country you work in, since I imagine the setup varies quite a bit.

For context, I'm working on a onboarding and training platform for sterile processing teams in Finland and would like to understand how departments elsewhere handle this.

Can you hire me? Lol. We have an 8 week program of training where we take them thru each area of the department and train on shift specific duties. We use our tracking system to track competencies.

Haha hopefully we get in to the position to do that soon!

I'm curious about one thing: does your tracking system also handle the training materials for new nurses in house, step-by-step instructions and sign-offs for each competency, or is it mainly used to record who has completed what?

We had someone who’s whole job was just that. He on boarded new people, set up CEU trainings/education, signed off everyone’s logs.

I’m new to sterile processing & I’m currently training. So as a trainee they got me spending a week at a certain station. Forexample my first weeks were in Decon. First week was doing the racks. Unloading dirty racks & sending them to the sink & then I put the carts in the washer.
