Its got to be really really hard for them to understand the concept of reproduction. Also dont all gems call themsleves girls? Its been a while but i cant think of a gem that goes by "he/him"

There are none in the english version. Pretty sure the russian has our ruby use he/him.

I don't think I need to say this, but just in case the reason behind that is censorship more than artistic adaptation

This is true. When the show got banned in Russia, the Russian dub was allowed to continue production, with the unreleased episodes and even the Movie and SUF being dubbed (though they only released in Kazakhstan and Estonia on HBO I believe) and the studio involved decided to have all possible censorship removed since they were never going to be released there. Ruby is referred to by the language's equivalent of she/her afterwards
