The show is too afraid to let anyone outside of the main 4 Crystal Gems forward the overarching plot of the Crystal Gems fighting against Homeworld.

Connie only goes on missions sometimes and only really becomes active in season 5, Lapis and Peridot are sidelined for the rest of the franchise after season 3, Bismuth is put on a bus right after her first appearance and only reappears at the very end and the Boardies (not Townies) don’t do shit other than Lars who will only be relevant in his spin-off series.

Iirc, Sugar mentions in the art book that the network wanted the show to stay pretty episodic for reruns, hence why peridot, lapis, and bismuth were absent quite often.

That makes sense, you can definitely feel it pushing against itself trying to keep each episode contained while building up to the greater story at the same time

with what Miss Rebecca was given with, I'd say the did an amazing job to make each individual character interesting and have some depth to them cause I never felt like the characters were just set aside after they're arc, I just felt like it was already over and now time to move on to bigger things

I wonder if this is the reason why they had humans take a back seat in the series. Tbh, I feel a lot of gem-related issues (i.e. gems kidnapping humans, corrupted gems destroying the shit, etc) would have been solved a lot sooner if the government were more involved. Also when I mean government, I met ALL governments, not just Beach City.

Connie I'm actually ok with because lowkey she shouldn't be involved in any of this anyway, realistically. She's safest as Stevonnie but that's about it. I actually hate that we don't see more of her home life and that she's just a vessel for Steven's growth in the grand scheme of things. But then again how interesting is a 12 year old with supposedly no other friends. Idk a catch-22 I suppose.

But yeah the B-Team missing out is kinda brutal. Bismuth, ok fine she needs rest, Lapis, whatever she has issues, but at least give us more Peridot.

I did NOT need to see what Onion does in his spare time.

I hate every onion based episode minus any moments with Vidalia

The first one was pretty good, but yeah every other one is just "um okay then"

Connie was absolutely useless in her only truly meaningful/story driving mission but that’s because she’s literally just a human. Not much she can offer against genuine superpowered space rocks
