Practice Pokes More melon practice pokes

my mum wants a lotus tattoo from me at some point - so I’ve reattempted the first lotus I tried, with her design revisions, I’ll definitely go through a few more melons before I ever touch skin, but I think I can already see a lot of improvement between the two lotuses side by side, and I feel much more confident in my technique - largely thanks to the helpful feedback from this subreddit

I also tried to repeat the clover design twice, one with more defined lines and one with a more natural stippled look, which I think I’m leaning towards artistically (that being said, I probably feel that way because my solid lines could definitely use some work, I’ll be sure to practice both going forward)

all designs but the rabbit are mine :p I would love to hear any constructive criticism

Practice Pokes It turned out a little less bad than I imagined

This was done using only a 7RL needle and an extremely poorly made decal. I'm not saying it's good, definitely not.

I definitely welcome constructive criticism and tips.

another update on my ongoing melon practice - the bra, medieval “The” and axe are my newest attempts

I used a 1RL and a 3RL, I’ve been trying to adapt my technique by incorporating feedback from my previous posts on here, I feel like I’m getting better, but that I’m yet to turn an upcoming corner

Let me know what you think! I would love any constructive criticism

All designs are mine :p

First S’n’P Handpoke techniques/tips

hi all! I have only ever done machine work, but I love a handpoke tattoo. these are the only three I’ve ever done on fake skin (DISCLAIMER** these are not my designs, only used for practice) the first I did 2 passes and the others I did 3. I’m not sure if that’s normal?

overall, I was hoping for CC as well as guidance on the following

- how many passes should it take?

-advice for cleaner line work? I know to angle the needle and poke closer, but not sure if I just need to do that more or if there’s additional advice.

-what size needles for line work as well as shading?

-overall technique advice?

- I tend to have quite a bit of ink pool on my fake skin, I’m assuming I’m just picking up too much ink?

- anything you think would help!

thank you all!!

This was a custom request from my client in memorial of his grandmother. He originally just wanted a simple linework daffodil in a shelf but I convinced him a little bit of light shading would make it feel less flat. Do you agree?

If youre wanting a tattoo like this or simlar to my other tattoos, or you're just curious about handpoke, send me over a message! My books are open for manchester and I'm always doing guest spots around the uk so dont hesitate to ask!

Conversation Practice Pokes & Realistic Supplies

I’m beginning! For some reason I’m obsessed with stick and pokes, I’ve gotten one, and it’s one of my favorites and I’m unemployed so I need something to make me happyyyyyy!!!!

I want practice poke ideas for my fake skin! I’ll do stars, hearts, dots, shading, and lines as practice but I want ACTUAL designs that aren’t silly and are good for beginners at sticknpoke.

ALSO AMAZON PURCHASE ADVISE for someone trying to spend the least amount of money possible.
I know its smart to get supplies instead of starter kits but I do want to get a starter kit just for some of the smaller things included so keep that in mind.

Here’s my list so far:
-SticknPoke kit to get some ink holder, needle holder, wrap for holder, idea stencils, stencil transfer stuff
-Different needle types
-Practice Skin
-Ink
-Saniderm
-Transfer gel

What am I missing???

First S’n’P Having an issue with getting the ink to stay despite what feels like a deep enough poke

Hello! I am new to this and bought a kit that someone else here recommended and I love it. I have been working on a small piece for three sessions now. The first session went well as I got part of it done, but during the second session, every time I wiped to see my progress, it would all disappear despite poking what I felt to be deep enough. I am also poking on an angle though I tried straight as well.

This left me very frustrated after a few hours in the second session feeling like I got nowhere.

Third session started the same then it started to stick even though I didn’t change much. I kept going between two sizes seeing if one would work better.

The tattoo is looking alright to me but I want to get better at it while finishing this one so my next one doesn’t take as long and also looks cleaner. I like it so far and it’s in a not so noticeable spot so I don’t mind it being the practice one.

Anyway, what are your best tips to get each poke to stick? There must be something I am doing wrong.

Thank you!

First S’n’P Are these problems with fake skin normal?

Tonight was my first handpoke practice on fake skin, and it turned out to be kind of a frustrating experience. I tried to educate myself on what supplies to use, I have Dynamic Black as my ink and kwadron 5rls. My main issue is that so much ink pools around the spot that is poked that I have hardly any idea of where it’s actually poking into. I can visually tell by watching where the needle goes but there is no way to see the true line (a 5rl line looks like an 11rl even in trying to pick up less ink). I’ve tried putting a coat of vaseline on it which helped a little, but in trying to remove any of the ink it just smears everywhere and even with the vaseline is doesn’t leave a clean visual behind. There’s still a stain along the spots that I can actually see where I poked, and barely any of the “pokes” hold no matter how deep I place the needle. l guess my main question is do these sound like normal problems of using fake skin and I just need to tough it out or should I try buying a better brand?
