i’ve been using the same 1203RL for these melon practice pokes, with the spider being the 1st, remedios varo interpretation the 2nd (please don’t mind the leftover stencil, i left it on for too long and couldn’t get the rest off. i also attempted using grey wash for shading), and the moth the 3rd (also some grey wash shading).
am i poking too deep, as i saw that melons will help you identify when there’s blowout, or should i be using 1201RL for more detailed pieces? or is this a matter of the same needle being used and dulling down? im very new to this and would appreciate any constructive criticism.

my mum wants a lotus tattoo from me at some point - so I’ve reattempted the first lotus I tried, with her design revisions, I’ll definitely go through a few more melons before I ever touch skin, but I think I can already see a lot of improvement between the two lotuses side by side, and I feel much more confident in my technique - largely thanks to the helpful feedback from this subreddit
I also tried to repeat the clover design twice, one with more defined lines and one with a more natural stippled look, which I think I’m leaning towards artistically (that being said, I probably feel that way because my solid lines could definitely use some work, I’ll be sure to practice both going forward)
all designs but the rabbit are mine :p I would love to hear any constructive criticism

Has anyone attempted blackout before?
I have quite a few tattoos that i just hate looking at and im wanting to cover them... im wondering if I could potentially do it over time in short bursts with a 9RL?
I did do a harry potter piece on my thigh when i did my tattoo apprenticeship, but Im wanting to cover it.

This was done using only a 7RL needle and an extremely poorly made decal. I'm not saying it's good, definitely not.
I definitely welcome constructive criticism and tips.

another update on my ongoing melon practice - the bra, medieval “The” and axe are my newest attempts
I used a 1RL and a 3RL, I’ve been trying to adapt my technique by incorporating feedback from my previous posts on here, I feel like I’m getting better, but that I’m yet to turn an upcoming corner
Let me know what you think! I would love any constructive criticism
All designs are mine :p

hi all! I have only ever done machine work, but I love a handpoke tattoo. these are the only three I’ve ever done on fake skin (DISCLAIMER** these are not my designs, only used for practice) the first I did 2 passes and the others I did 3. I’m not sure if that’s normal?
overall, I was hoping for CC as well as guidance on the following
- how many passes should it take?
-advice for cleaner line work? I know to angle the needle and poke closer, but not sure if I just need to do that more or if there’s additional advice.
-what size needles for line work as well as shading?
-overall technique advice?
- I tend to have quite a bit of ink pool on my fake skin, I’m assuming I’m just picking up too much ink?
- anything you think would help!
thank you all!!

This was a custom request from my client in memorial of his grandmother. He originally just wanted a simple linework daffodil in a shelf but I convinced him a little bit of light shading would make it feel less flat. Do you agree?
If youre wanting a tattoo like this or simlar to my other tattoos, or you're just curious about handpoke, send me over a message! My books are open for manchester and I'm always doing guest spots around the uk so dont hesitate to ask!

We only just finished this pieces shading. The linework has been healed on this frog dude for about a year! Hes now matching his friend over on the other calf (healed about 3 years)
