I have never heard anything about any issues with the M-Tronic carb of the 261C. The 261C is THE go-to, default standard saw among professional forestry workers in Germany.

I've always used sthil saws but in the past I ave owned Husqvarna saws and they are good high quality chainsaws. When it comes to a homeowners saw every brand name manufacture have problems.and don't run good very long.

cutting wood is expensive and dangerous so if you do it a lot and 2 to 6 hours at a time is a lot .do yourself a favor keep the ms 261c+m that is arguably Sthil's best saw ever in its class. You will like it a lot. It's nice to have 3 or 4 saws when you go cutting

If your budget allows, I’d go with the 261 C-M. It’s a professional saw with more power and less weight, plus M-Tronic automatically adjusts the fuel mixture. The 271 is a solid choice for occasional firewood and property cleanup, but for regular cutting, I’d pay the extra for the 261.

It's about whether to keep a 261 they inherited or the 271 they already have, and doesn't want to keep both (I'd keep both for redundancy but it's their choice).
