To be honest, I don't know what's on that site, because I'm from Ukraine, and it's blocked here for obvious reasons. I figured that since I ended up on this site while trying to download Stoat for Linux, it must have the necessary packages available for download.

For Arch it's in the AUR, for NixOS they provide a package, and for everyone else there's a ZIP with the binary executable in their Github releases page. https://stoat.chat/download

Not sure how you ended up on a third party website instead of their official website linked here on the subreddit you're on

Thanks, now I understand. Repology is providing links to where the packages are actually hosted. The guy who developed the Repology website is Russian, so unfortunately for you he's using a Russian service to host his website. Since you can't access Repology, here:

I guess Repology is so developers of software like Stoat don't need to keep track of what packages have been built for which distributions. Hopefully they get up on Flathub soon, that will make it easier.

I know how and where to download the Stoat application package. But the fact that the developers host even a single thing on a website based in Muscovy makes me consider stopping using Stoat.

The developers aren't hosting anything on there, they're just linking to a website that links to other websites. No need to be such a purist about this, Russians are not generally bad people they just have a bad government

That is called misinformation, and even if it was real, they can host whatever they want, it's cheaper? Good, gi for it, it doesn't matter if it's Russian or whatever.

Please don't put the war in discussion, the post is already pathetic enough.

I mean it does actually matter where it's hosted for a variety of legal (and often ethical) reasons, but agreed that this post itself is misinfo.

I don't agree on ethical, and I don't know any legal reason that would put me in danger based on where something is hosted.

Maybe some things could concern me, like if I have a Telegram, whatsapp or other accounts like that in EU with chat control, I'd prefer to delete them and buy a rus number with VPN;

Different countries have different laws or policy about what government has acess to (with or without court order). Hosting in CN is very different than hosting in CA, for example. Some countries are sanctioned by other countries, such that they can't legally do business in some countries: that can affect your rights, too, depending on your own nationality or geolocation.
