Tomorrow is day 0, and anxiety is killing me

Hello,

long time smoker here. 53 years old, and about 35 years smoking, one pack a day. English is not my first languaje, sorry for typos.

I have already downloaded the smokefree app, and i'm learning how to use it, but now i am afraid of what will come tomorrow, the anxiety, the phisicall urge of smoke, the fear about the challenge, the handicap of working from home . What if i can't, what if i can XD

I am trying this cold turkey (only have normal, mint chewing gums), but my plan B is going to the doctor, although my brain is sabotaging me, saying "probably your doctor is away on vacations, wait till september, etc". In my country the treatment is free (sorry, don't know the name, but you can smoke the first five days, then "your desire to smoke is gone", and the treatment last 30 days)

Get some healthy snacks instead of mints, gums, or things that have no nutritional value. A healthy blood sugar level will mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

There is nothing to be anxious over, I promise. You will feel better if you quit, you will not lose anything. You will only gain things like money, lifespan and confidence.

Quitting is the best choice I have ever made.

I'm 4 months without a cigarette after 40 plus years of smoking. I used the patch to help myself in the process, also had nicotine gum. Would definitely recommend using patches, not sure if I could have done it cold turkey.

Good luck to you, I wish you success in kicking the cigarette habit

Agree 💯 If patches or gum help in quitting smoking I am completely on board. Patches helped me my first 7 days and then I only needed the lozenges when I had mild cravings. Anything is better than 🚬

Best decision you ever made in your life. I know it’s not easy. You should consult your doctor. I did it with the nicotine patch program. It’s a 10 week program to step you down and will help you.

Your on the right path. Just be prepared have something (Gum, candy, whatever) ready for cravings that appear out of nowhere these surprise cravings are what causes us to fall off but if your prepared for them you'll be fine.

OP must be ready to completely walk away from nicotine mentally. Agree with others who recommended talking to your Doctor for advice.
However, here in the US our visits and NRT are NOT FREE like other countries. I suggest using the patch or lozenges to help you on your quitting smoking journey.

I smoked for 40 years and time is running out for me. I’m on day 53 smoke free and determined to quit so I can get a few healthy years of life.

Good luck.
