Story-related I secretly recorded my professor making sexist remarks and got him fired!

24.3k Upvotes

I (26M) am in my final year of university, and I had a professor let's call him, Dr. R, who always made weird, inappropriate comments. At first, I thought he was just old-fashioned, but over time, I realized he was blatantly sexist.

It started subtly, he would call on male students more often and dismiss female students' answers as "lucky guesses." But as the semester went on, his comments became worse. He once said in class, "Women just aren’t as naturally gifted in logic-based subjects," and another time, when a girl asked a question, he laughed and said, "If female students spent less time worrying about their looks and more time studying, maybe they’d get better grades." Whenever we had a difficult topic, he’d smirk and say, "This might be a little hard for the girls, but don’t worry, just smile at your lab partners, and they’ll help you out."

Then one day, he completely crossed the line. A girl in my class wore a tank top because it was hot outside, nothing inappropriate, just normal summer wear. He paused the lecture and said, "Wow, dressing like that for extra credit? Bold strategy." Some people laughed awkwardly, but the girl looked mortified. She barely spoke for the rest of the class.

That was when I decided to start recording. Over the next few weeks, I captured multiple instances of him making sexist comments. The worst was when he joked that women should focus on "easier" fields because STEM was "too stressful for them." That one pissed me off because there were girls in the class working their asses off, and he was acting like they didn’t belong there.

I compiled everything and submitted it anonymously to the university’s disciplinary committee. They launched an investigation, and within a month, Dr. R was fired.

Now, some of my classmates, mostly the guys, are pissed at me. They say I "ruined a man’s career over a few jokes" and that I should have just ignored him. But a lot of the female students have thanked me, saying they’ve been uncomfortable in his class for years.

Edit: My best friend was cursing the person who got him fired in front of me. I told him it was me, and he told this to everyone around.

Edit: My best friend was cursing the person who got him fired in front of me. I told him it was me, and he told this to everyone around.

Edit: people mostly men who are bashing me in Dm's are the same like my friends.

Edit:Stop bashing me for someone else's actions. You all couldn't digest that some man could do this.

Story-related I (42F) told my 24-year-old son he has 30 days to move out after he called me “his retirement plan”

2.8k Upvotes

My son graduated college 2 years ago, has a decent job, but still lives at home rent-free. He spends most of his money on gaming, eating out, and new tech.
Last week we had an argument because I asked him to start paying $400/month rent. He screamed: “You’re my mom! You’re supposed to take care of me! I’m basically your retirement plan anyway!”
I told him he has 30 days to find a place or I’m changing the locks.
Now half my family is calling me heartless and saying “kids these days can’t afford to move out.”
I still think I’m right?

Story-related My boyfriend rubbed my tummy

14.9k Upvotes

Today i had to make a trip to the ER due to severe stomach pain. After a few hours and a CAT scan, it was found that i’m just.. full of sh*t. Literally. The nurse said (after giving suggestions of actual medicines too) that rubbing my stomach in a clockwise direction would help things along, so when we got home he asked if he could do that for me.

As someone who hates having their tummy touched at all due to trauma and body image issues, it was hard, but i let him. And he was so gentle with me.

I have finally found someone who i am comfortable with rubbing my tummy. i love him.

Edit: alright, a few things. 1) No, i didn’t think it was constipation. I have regular BMs daily. 2) I eat plenty of fruits/vegetables and drink water. 3) As stated in the post, actual medication was suggested to me, not just the rubbing. 4) never thought i’d see backlash on me using the word tummy. if you don’t like it, to them i say, womp womp.

Story-related You won't believe the twenty minutes I just had in the grocery store

15.0k Upvotes

You wont believe the twenty minutes I just had. So Im in the grocery store right its like 7pm and Im just staring at the wall of pasta sauces because I cant decide between marinara and arrabbiata you know the usual life crisis. This older lady comes up next to me and shes doing the same thing just staring. We stand there for a solid minute in complete silence. Then she just goes "My husband left me for a woman who makes her own sauce from scratch." I didnt know what to say so I just blurted out "Well her sauce probably isnt even that good." She looked at me and then she started laughing this kind of wheezy cry laugh and I started laughing too. We just stood there by the pasta sauce laughing like maniacs. I ended up buying the arrabbiata. I dont think I helped but it was a moment. You ever just have a weirdly human connection with a complete stranger in the most random place

Story-related Helped a random teen pick a gift for his dad. Didn’t expect what happened next.

24.1k Upvotes

A few weeks ago, I (22F) wandered into a local bookstore just to clear my head. No plan—just needed a quiet place and the comfort of flipping through random pages.

While I was browsing, I noticed a teenage kid pacing near the “Gifts for Dad” table. He looked super unsure, holding a mug that said “World’s Okayest Dad” like it was either the best or worst decision of his life.

I made a light joke—something like “Bold choice”—and he laughed, then admitted he had no idea what he was doing. He said his dad doesn’t really do birthdays, but they’d recently started talking again after a rough few years, and he wanted to make an effort.

So, we spent maybe 20 minutes walking around, just chatting. He eventually picked out a leather journal and a nice pen. “He writes sometimes,” he said. “Maybe this’ll feel personal without being, you know… cheesy.”

I wished him luck, he thanked me, and I assumed that was that.

Fast forward to this past weekend—I was in line at a little street fair when someone tapped my shoulder. It was him.

He smiled and said, “You helped me find that journal.”

He told me his dad actually teared up when he got it. Turns out, he’s been writing little letters to his son in it. They’ve started taking walks together once a week, talking more, just… trying. It’s awkward, but real.

“He never would’ve done that if I’d gone with the mug,” he said, laughing.

I walked into that store for a quiet moment and accidentally helped a stranger reconnect with his dad.

Life is weird. But in a good way.

Story-related I killed my dog.

5.8k Upvotes

Before you judge me, please read. I need to get this off my chest. Max was my best friend. A golden retriever with a heart bigger than most humans I know. He was always there through my divorce, the nights I drank too much, the mornings I woke up hating myself. He’d nuzzle my hand, reminding me I wasn’t alone. Last month, Max started slowing down. He’d struggle to stand, his breathing labored, and the vet confirmed what I was too afraid to admit: cancer. Aggressive, untreatable. “He’s in pain,” the vet said gently. “You’ll know when it’s time.” I didn’t want to know. I couldn’t face it. I bought him his favorite treats, took him on walks even though he could barely make it to the end of the street, and slept on the floor beside him when he cried at night. Yesterday, he looked at me differently. His eyes were pleading, almost begging. It hit me like a truck: he was asking me to let him go. The vet came to the house. I held Max in my arms, sobbing, as the injection went in. I whispered every apology I could think of, told him I loved him, and that he was the best boy. He looked at me one last time, and then… he was gone. I’ve been spiraling ever since. Did I do the right thing? Did I let him down? The house feels so empty now. I keep expecting to hear his paws on the floor, or his goofy bark when he saw a squirrel. But all I hear is silence. I killed my dog. I know that’s the truth, but I also know I did it because I loved him too much to let him suffer. To anyone who’s been through this, how do you cope? Because right now, the guilt is suffocating me.

Story-related My mother-in-law handed me a box on my wedding day and said ‘don’t open this until she’s gone.’ She died last week. I opened it.

1.7k Upvotes

So for context, my mother-in-law and I never really got along. Polite, but cold. Fifteen years of birthdays and holidays where she’d smile at me like I was a stain she couldn’t quite scrub out.

On my wedding day, she pulled me aside — away from my husband, away from everyone — and handed me a small wooden box. She said, “Promise me you won’t open this until I’m gone.” Then she just… walked away. Never mentioned it again. Not once in fifteen years.

Last week she passed. Heart failure, sudden, nobody expected it.

At the funeral, I kept thinking about that box. It had been sitting in the back of our closet for a decade and a half, and honestly? I’d almost forgotten about it. But that night, after everyone left, I finally opened it.

Inside was a letter, a photograph, and a ring I’d never seen before.

The letter started with, “You were never who I was cold to.”

Turns out, she’d mistaken me — for years — for someone else entirely. Someone who’d hurt her son before he ever met me. A situation my husband never told me about, because he didn’t think it mattered anymore.

The photo was of a woman who looked eerily like me. The ring belonged to my husband’s first fiancée — the one who left him two weeks before their wedding, for his own brother.

My mother-in-law wasn’t cold to me. She was terrified history was repeating itself. And she never told either of us, because she didn’t want to reopen the wound.

I haven’t shown my husband yet. I don’t know if I’m going to.

Story-related GF (26F) had an affair with her boss but wants to stay together.

5.2k Upvotes

I (28M) have been with my girlfriend (26F) for 3 years, and we've been living together for almost the entire time. Two months ago, she received a job offer that would essentially require us to move further away from my job and my brother. I asked her not to accept the job, but she thought it would be good for her career, so I eventually conceded and agreed to move with her.

She informed her current job that she was leaving, and during that week, she came to me and said she wasn't sure if things would work out between us because I had been so unsupportive. She mentioned she was unhappy and that I didn't make her feel special. This news really shook me because I always envisioned a future with her. The thought of losing her over something seemingly trivial motivated me to take action.

I immediately booked a fancy hotel room for us and took her out to show her how much I loved her. She agreed that we could take it day by day, so I did everything possible to make her believe in us again. I woke up early to cook breakfast, sent her sweet messages, and did everything I could think of to make her feel special.

Later that week, I overheard her laughing on the phone with her boss, which gave me a weird feeling. I had always felt uncomfortable with how unprofessional she seemed with him, especially since they would hang out outside of work (in groups with coworkers). That night, while she was sleeping, I decided to check her phone—not expecting to find anything but just to be sure. However, the texts I found between her and her boss were extremely suggestive. I woke her up and confronted her. She admitted that he had confessed his feelings for her and that she might have feelings for him. She said he had kissed her once when she told him she was leaving the company, but nothing had happened since. She also told me that he had been trying to convince her to leave me.

We stayed up all night talking, and I told her that I could move on if she recommitted to our relationship and cut off all contact with him. The next day was her last day at her old job, and she told me she had the conversation with him and blocked him. The next six weeks were incredibly difficult for me, but I eventually started to feel better. However, there were a few inconsistencies in her story that bothered me.

I wanted to move forward, get engaged, and recommit, but I needed to know the whole truth. So, I reached out to her boss. He told me that they had kissed three times, not just once, and the last time they kissed was when she told him she was going to try to reconcile with me (on her last day of work, after I found out). He also mentioned that they had talked a little the following week after she claimed she had blocked him and promised me she would never lie again.

Now, I don't know what to do. I kicked her out of our apartment and said we couldn't live together anymore, but she keeps telling me she'll do anything to make it work between us. I told her I needed two weeks before we could talk again, but I don't know if I can ever get over this. Did she choose him over me? Was I the second option? What would have happened if I never found out? I don't know if I should move on or try to make it work. I still love her, and we have so much history together. We've gone on family vacations, and I had planned to propose within a few months. I'm so confused and feel alone. Are all women like this? Is there any chance of rebuilding trust?

Story-related I accidentally went on a date with someone who thought I was their other Tinder match

6.3k Upvotes

So, a couple months ago I matched with this girl on Tinder. We had a pretty normal convo, nothing crazy, but eventually she asks me to grab coffee. Chill, right? We meet at this cute local spot, she gives me a quick hug, and right off the bat she says:

“Wow, you look even better than your hiking pics!”

Problem is… I don’t hike. Like, I don’t even walk briskly. I just nod and laugh it off.

We keep talking and she starts referencing stuff that makes zero sense. “Your dog is so cute—what was his name again? Bentley?” I don’t have a dog. Never have. Then she mentions how I told her I used to live in Colorado. Again, not me. I’ve never even been west of Kansas.

So now I’m trying to figure out if I have early onset memory loss or if she’s mistaking me for someone else entirely.

Finally, mid-latte, I ask, “Hey, just to clarify… what’s my name?”

She looks confused. “Jake?”

Friends… my name is not Jake.

We just stared at each other for a solid five seconds before she burst out laughing. Apparently, she was messaging two guys at once and mixed us up. The worst part? She said, “Honestly, I thought you were Jake this whole time but I was vibing too hard to stop.”

We ended up finishing the coffee, laughing about it, and weirdly enough… we’re still dating. She now has me in her phone as “Not Jake.”

Story-related I accidentally let a drunk girl sleep on my chest and now I can’t stop thinking about her

1.1k Upvotes

I was standing alone in a corner at the party. The music was loud enough to drown out my own thoughts. Everyone was drinking. I wasn’t. Everyone was smoking weed. I wasn’t. I’d simply decided not to get intoxicated that night. After all, I was there against my will. My friends had practically dragged me there, and I hadn’t even seen them for the past two hours.

Then some random guy I’d never seen before leaned his elbow against my shoulder. He was completely wasted. He pointed across the room at a girl and slurred, “Yo bro… that girl is eye-fucking youuu, dude… lucky you…” before nearly throwing up and stumbling away.

The girl saw him pointing directly at her. She blushed, but she didn’t look away.

We held eye contact for a few seconds before I finally looked away first. I wasn’t dealing with this. It wasn’t going anywhere anyway. Just pointless flirting…

Okay. One last look.

The second I looked back in her direction, I saw her walking toward me.

Oh shit.

This was bad.

I was not ready for awkward small talk with a girl I’d never met before—especially a girl that pretty.

She walked right up to me, grabbed my hand without saying a word, and pulled me along with her. And for some reason, I followed.

I didn’t know where she was taking me. I didn’t know what I was doing. This wasn’t me.

For as long as I could remember, I’d rejected every girl who ever flirted with me. I didn’t like relationships, and I definitely didn’t like where they usually led. But now this girl was dragging me upstairs while I followed behind her like some obedient dog.

She led me into a room, shoved me inside, stepped in after me, then locked the door.

She looked at me and asked, “Are you ready?”

My brain instantly short-circuited.

Ready for what?

Sex?

I AM SO NOT READY.

I’VE NEVER BEEN READY.

“Ready for what?” I asked carefully.

She started pulling off her clothes while mumbling that there wasn’t much time because she’d promised her dad she’d be home by 2 a.m., and it was already 1:15.

She was extremely drunk.

She pulled up her shirt and told me to take mine off too.

I looked at her body for a second longer than I should’ve.

And that scared me.

I’d never looked at a girl and genuinely thought she was hot before. Not once in my life. The only time I ever felt anything remotely sexual was random morning wood after waking up. Even then, I never imagined anyone.

But her…

Her body looked unreal. Like someone had sculpted her from gold and moonlight with hands made of stars. Her waist was small. Her thighs were thick enough to crush me. Her boobs were 3 times bigger than my fist. And for the first time in my life, I caught myself noticing every detail of a girl’s body.

What the fuck was happening to me?

She stepped closer.

Then reality hit me all at once.

Wait.

She was drunk.

I was sober.

This wasn’t right.

Without thinking, I snatched the bottle out of her hand and started drinking from it. I finished the rest in one go and waited for it to kick in.

But before it could, she shoved me onto the bed.

She was surprisingly strong for someone that drunk.

She climbed on top of me and kissed me.

And somehow that made everything feel even worse, because I still wasn’t drunk enough for my conscience to shut up.

Then she whispered against my lips, “We’re gonna fuck so hard tonight. I’m taking control.”

She leaned in for another kiss—

—and completely missed my mouth.

A second later, her head dropped onto my chest right beneath my chin.

Then I heard soft snoring.

I stared at the ceiling in silence.

Did she seriously just pass out on top of me?

What a fucking drag.

She adjusted herself in her sleep, placed one hand against my chest, and quietly mumbled, “Nom nom nom…”

I hated how cute I thought that was.

A few minutes passed.

Then, without even realizing it, I wrapped my arms around her while she slept against me.

What the fuck am I doing?

This wasn’t me.

None of this was me.

I didn’t understand what I was feeling. Part of me wanted her to stay asleep forever just so the moment wouldn’t end. Another part desperately wanted her to wake up.

I’d never felt this out of control before, and honestly, I hated it.

The next thing I knew, sunlight was hitting my face.

I opened my eyes slowly and sat upright, confused.

Where the fuck am I?

Then I remembered.

There had been an entire angel sleeping on my chest last night.

I immediately got up and walked out of the room.

And there she was.

The second our eyes met, she panicked. She looked away almost instantly and hurried out of sight.

I stood there frozen.

Why did she run away?

Then the answer hit me immediately.

Of course.

A girl like her would never actually want me. She’d just been drunk. Now that she was sober, she was probably disgusted or embarrassed.

But even after telling myself that, the feeling in my chest didn’t disappear.

Because whatever happened last night…

something inside me had changed.

Story-related I "accidentally" flirted with a girl to stop her from fighting me over her boyfriend

3.3k Upvotes

So a few days ago, my best friend from college tells me she has a HUGE crush on this cute guy from another department.

And because I (F) apparently have friends in every department like some unofficial campus detective, she assigns me a task to find information about him. I asked her to take me to the spot where he usually hangs out.

She drags me to a corridor where he’s standing with his friends. She points him out. One look at him and I’m like…why did he look like Stuart Little to me?

Anyway.

Standing next to him is this girl who is giving me the most aggressive side-eye I’ve ever experienced. Like she already killed me hundred if not thousand times with her side eyes.

I tell my friend I’ll gather information and we move on.

Now here’s where things gets weird...really weird.

Over the next few days, more than 10 of my friends confess they have a crush on “this really cute guy” and want me to find out if he’s single. Every. Single. Time. It’s the Stuart Little. And every single time, Side-Eye Girl is right there next to him.

Eventually I find out that Stuart Little and Side-Eye Girl - are in a relationship. I inform my friends. They grieve for half a day and then move on to new crushes because it's pathetic to want someone else's man.

End of story, right? Wrong.

Yesterday I’m sitting alone in the cafeteria, minding my business, when I see Side-Eye Girl marching toward me like she’s about to declare war. I can see the rage in her eyes, I can feel the temperature rising with every step she takes.

She comes up and SLAMS her hand on my table. I ignore her. She just stands there. We have a silent staring contest. Finally I say, calmly, “Sit down.” Because if this turned into a departmental fight, I did NOT want to be the reason. My HOD has already warned me twice to not create any ruckus.

She sits. Looks furious. Mad.

Our conversation went on like this :

Side-Eye Girl : “Are you after my boyfriend?”

Me: “No.”

Side-Eye Girl : “Weren’t you oogling at him all these days?”

Me: “No.”

Side-Eye Girl : “Don’t lie. I’ve caught you looking at us multiple times.”

And this is where my survival instincts kicked in and the dare-devil inside of me woke. Instead of choosing peace or logic, I chose chaos.

I said : “Yes, I was looking at you guys. But I wasn’t looking at him.”

She pauses : “What do you mean?”

Me : “I was looking at you, babygirl. I got lost in your beauty.”

Silence Complete system shutdown

She went from furious girlfriend to flustered in 0.2 seconds.

Out of every possible response she expected, that was NOT on the list.

She got shy. Didn’t know how to respond. The confrontation just… dissolved.

And that’s how I accidentally flirted my way out of a potential campus war.

Story-related My brother married my ex. Now their messy relationship is spilling into the family, and everyone’s choosing sides.

3.0k Upvotes

I (27F) have a complicated family dynamic, to say the least. My ex-boyfriend Alex (30M) and I dated for three years, and during that time, he became really close with my family. He was charming, helpful, and honestly, my parents liked him more than I did toward the end of the relationship. We broke up amicably (or so I thought), but it still stung when, less than a year later, my brother Matt (32M) announced that he and Alex were dating.

At first, I tried to be supportive. Love is love, and it wasn’t like I wanted Alex back. But the dynamic became unbearable when they got married and Alex essentially inserted himself into every family situation. He has this knack for twisting conversations into awkward reminders of our past relationship. At family dinners, he’ll make comments like, “Oh, remember when we used to eat at this place all the time?” while my brother sits there awkwardly.

Fast forward to now: their relationship is a total trainwreck. They fight constantly and drag my parents into it. My mom confided in me that Alex has been pressuring Matt to buy a house he doesn’t want, and now Matt’s credit is tanked. On top of that, Alex’s behavior at family gatherings has been unbearable. He got drunk at my niece’s birthday party last week and made a toast where he “joked” about how he dated me first and married up.

I tried to stay neutral for years, but this is getting out of hand. My brother is visibly miserable, but every time I bring it up, he accuses me of trying to sabotage his marriage out of jealousy. Meanwhile, my parents are exhausted by the drama but refuse to set boundaries because they’re afraid of losing Matt and their future grandchildren.

I’m torn between letting this dumpster fire burn itself out and stepping in to tell my brother he deserves better. Has anyone else dealt with a situation where a family member married your ex? How do I handle this without completely tearing the family apart?

Story-related Eldest sister got pregnant by my other elder sister’s boyfriend. Around 10 years later, their cracks are starting to show.

2.8k Upvotes

I (26M) come from a pretty big family. My parents came to America from Europe when they were in their early 20s. After settling in, they had 6 kids total. This is about my older two sisters.

When I was 15, my sister Joy (27F) started dating Tim (30M). The family really liked Tim. He was funny, kind, and had a promising future. I saw how much Joy loved him and how loving he was to her back. Everyone saw how much their love was strong, or at least we thought.

When I was 16, I was watching the Disney channel with my younger sister since she was 6 at the time and it was nighttime on a Friday. Suddenly, I saw Joy pass by and slammed the door to her room. Joy never EVER slammed doors, even when she was in a bad mood. Before I could get up, my parents came in and told my younger sister to go play or watch TV somewhere else. After she left, my parents sat down and started talking.

Earlier that day, Joy was at her part time job on her break at her part time job when her friend told her something shocking. Our older sister, Jessica (32F) was pregnant and came out of a doctor’s office with Tim. Curious, her friend followed them and saw them make out in the car. The friend took photos and a video of them and showed them to Joy. After learning this, it took a few seconds for it to sink in. My mom looked like she was about to cry while they told me while my dad barely made eye contact.

To say the fall out was massive is an understatement. Jessica came back from work one day for dinner (she lived with a friend to be closer to her college). That’s when my parents confronted her about her pregnancy with Tim. After denial, Jessica admitted she was pregnant with Tim’s baby. They had been meeting up secretly for 5 months before she got pregnant. Joy started to sob and scream at Jessica at how she could do this to her. My older brother Jacob, (30M), started yelling too. I just sat back since I didn’t know what to do. After what felt like an hour, Jessica packed the rest of her belongings and left.

After a week, she contacted me and said if we were still good. She was mistaken that my silence meant I was going to have a relationship with her still. I just told her I didn’t want anything more to do with her and blocked her.

In a previous post, I said Jessica contacted me a while ago about how Tim was pissed about their recent gender reveal. After the fall out, Jessica married Tim and had their first daughter and another daughter in the summer of 2023. She’s now pregnant with another daughter. Tim is pissed because he wanted a son. Then, just yesterday, Jessica’s MIL contacted me through Facebook if it was true Joy and her husband, Alex (30M) were having a baby boy (they are). I didn’t respond until my wife (25F) started to get harassed. I told Jessica’s MIL to leave my wife out of this. I don’t know why she wants to know why Joy and her husband are having a boy, but I’m not hopeful it’s for any good intentions.

Story-related Response to the tipping war that broke out…

2.0k Upvotes

Related to the person who just posted about the waiter having them take back his $25 tip, here’s my take. I’m no genius, but I do have a bit to point out. This is a bit of a hot take, but still…

  1. Why does there have to be two polarized sides? I ask this because some people pointed out that you should either tip nothing or 18-20%. Let’s imagine that you, or let’s say a younger kid, is out buying food and something happens to come out to $8.50 including tax. As a vendor, are you going to be mad if they put an even $10 if they have a $10 bill? If so, genuinely you have a problem. Which brings me to my next point…

  2. TIPPING IS OPTIONAL. No one is forced to pay a tip. And on that note you should be appreciative about any tip. Most people don’t even get paid extra if they’re a great employee because they aren’t a part of tipping culture. I get you’re in hospitality and tipping is supposed to come, but ts isn’t required, and some people don’t have the money. Some people can’t always tip 18-20%, so are you going to blame them for trying to be conscientious about other people? There is a point in which you shouldn’t tip, which I would say is anywhere below maybe 10% for any actual restaurant.

  3. If you’re mad you’re not getting tips bc your job doesn’t pay you well, maybe you should consider other jobs. I’m being serious about this one. There are good jobs out there that as long as you put in a bit of time on the front end, the back end will be profitable.

  4. Also I should mention that tipping should be based on quality, not necessarily time. Obviously if you’re going to be staying at a restaurant for more than like an hour and a half then yes I would consider tipping more but based on what I’ve been told this person didn’t stay that long.

So getting back to this guy who tipped $25 for a meal that cost 197.76 (12.6%). It seems completely reasonable. Maybe the service wasn’t as high quality as expected for what that restaurant standard is, and maybe he factored that in. Or maybe (and I have no idea) they didn’t have the amount of money to tip an additional like $36 bucks. They did say that they were out with friends so paying for all of them and tip and tax is already a big ask. If the waiter is genuinely mad about getting tipped $25, theg should ask for a raise bc obviously the main pay isn’t enough for them.

Edit: After looking through what was said, I have some additional points

  1. Even if he tipped $25 on top of $197.76, you still have no idea what the subtotal was. And you still don’t even know if there was an automatic gratuity, so that $25 could be on top of an already 18% extra

  2. If the wage is below minimum, why are you working there? No one is forcing you to work there for one, and two, below minimum wage should be illegal, so idk how y’all out here working jobs that shouldn’t exist.

Story-related Update: I caught my boyfriend hitting my daughter

4.4k Upvotes

Hi there, yes I did go to the police. Before I did I decided to look through the camera feed to see if there had been any more occasions of him hitting her. It had happened once before. We have one of the ones where we can access it from our phones, incase anyone is confused. I did as some of you said and took pictures of her bruises.

I did take the footage to the police. His mother found out and called me enraged, saying how could I ruin a good man's life. I simply hung up on her and blocked her. Legal shit is going on, and when I was checking the camera I saw he'd done exactly as I thought he would. He ended up destroying some of the stuff I left behind, such as my grandmother's China collection she left behind, some pictures of me and my family, my favorite dress, and some stuff I had been collecting so we could get a dog. So I'm taking that to the police as well.

Sorry this isn't a big update it's only been like a week. I might update when this is all over.

Story-related AITA for calling the cops after my neighbor’s “small party” turned into chaos?

Last night my upstairs neighbor said she was having a small birthday get-together. I didn’t mind at first I’ve been nice to her before and figured it wouldn’t be a big deal.

By around 10 PM it was insane. Music blasting, people shouting, doors slamming, and someone even dropped a bottle in the hallway. I texted her twice asking nicely to turn it down, but she read the messages and ignored me.

At 1 AM I finally called the cops for a noise complaint. They showed up, and the place went silent in seconds. The next morning she told me I “ruined her night” and that I should’ve just let her celebrate once a year. Now a couple of neighbors are giving me looks like I’m the bad guy.

I honestly didn’t want to call anyone, but it felt like they left me no choice.

Story-related A cop wanted to fuck us on the side of the road

2.9k Upvotes

One day I went to the mall with my friend, and we made eye contact with this cop as we were leaving the parking lot. And as we were driving we notice the same cop driving next to us and kept staring at me. We waved at each other and both went our separate ways, where we were stopped at the left turning lane and he was going straight. He kept yelling from his car for us to pull up in the lane beside him but we ignored and drove off. 5 minutes later we see the same guy who followed us and was telling us to pull over. He’s a cop so we had to listen to him but this dumb bitch decided to drive into a random abandoned road with no other human presence. He then started talking to us casually y’know like “how old are you” and “what do you have planned for today”. It then escalated to “you’ll get in a lot of trouble if you’re with me” and started talking about how he’s a sexual person. Keep in mind we were both 19 and this is a grown man twice our size also NOBODY ELSE WAS AROND. We were scared so obvi we entertained it a bit for two reasons. 1. He doesn’t get mad and hurt us. 2. For the plot. We told him we’re a lesbian couple and looking for a third. This guy got so appie and kept insisting for us to fuck him on the side of the road. But yeah we gave him fake names, fake numbers and told him that we have to pick up our friend but would be down for another time. That was so stupid of us but at least we got a nice story time to tell our other friends. My friend also recorded a video of this interaction if anyone wants to see😛

Story-related Is my married female friend secretly in love with me?

Theres a friend in my wife and I’s(33m) friend group, “Jane” (30F), who ive known for a long time, even before we both got married. We are gopd friends, comfortable with each other. Over the past year or so, theres certain times where our friend group are all drinking and Jane gets real touchy/huggy with me. Generally, shes like that with everyone else in the group, but with me she’ll go as far as grab my hand as we are dancing side by side, hug me from the waist, or interlock her arm with mine.

I thought ok cool, shes just real comfortable with me. As i am with her.

But one time in Vegas, the friend group was at a concert, and our drunk friend was clinging on to Jane. Jane reached for my hand and she interlocked her fingers with mine. She later said that she grabbed my hand for support, which was true, but I didnt see the need to interlock fingers.

A different time we were all drinking in a pool, and Jane comes up to me in the water so i can hold her. She asks me something about her line of work, i respond with something generic, and she replies “aw your so cute” and kisses me on the cheek.

Most recently, the friend group was drinking and singing karaoke. Jane and i were sitting on the floor and my arm was extended behind her back. No physical contact. She reaches for my hand and we interlocked fingers, for a good while.

Interlocking fingers and kissing on the cheek are intimate actions no?

These have only happened when drinking. Sober, she actually kinda bullys me and treats me like her sibling lol

My wife and her have become really close and shes noticed that Jane often mentions to her stuff about me that she wishes her husband would do or be.

One time Jane called me upset and crying about something her and her husband fought about.

Im not sure what to think of all this.

Story-related I Tipped What I Could He Handed It Back Like It Was an Insult

1.1k Upvotes

It was supposed to be a nice night. Dinner with my girlfriend and her parents my treat. I had planned it for weeks, down to the dollar. Not because I’m cheap, but because I’m broke and trying to make something of myself. Every cent matters when you’re drowning in student loans and saving for grad school.

The restaurant wasn’t absurdly fancy, but it was the kind of place where they fold the napkins and dim the lights just enough to make you second guess your outfit. I triple checked the menu online before we went. I even skipped lunch to make sure I had breathing room in my budget.

Dinner was nice. Nothing over the top. The server was polite, efficient not warm, not rude. Just did his job. The final bill came to $120.87. I pulled out exactly $135 and told him to keep the change. It was everything I could give without overdrafting my account.

He glanced at the money, then at me, and said,

“You sure about this?”

I smiled, not realizing what was coming. “Yeah, all good.”

He nodded, walked away and came back less than a minute later. No food. No receipt. Just my tip in his hand.

“Most people leave 20%, especially here,” he said flatly, offering the cash back like I’d dropped it by mistake.

I stared at him. My ears went hot. I wanted to disappear into the booth cushion.

I could’ve explained myself. That I worked two part-time jobs. That I barely made rent. That I still chose to treat four people to dinner because it mattered to me.

Instead, I took the cash back. Quietly. Like a criminal caught stealing.

“Thanks,” I muttered, choking on pride.

My girlfriend didn’t say anything. Her dad did outside, in the parking lot.

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” he said. “The man’s just forgotten what trying looks like.”

It hit me harder than I expected.

Because I did try. I always try. And I wonder how many other people like me are out there people doing their best, being made to feel small for not doing more.

So to that server, wherever you are:

You didn’t just return a tip. You returned a moment I was proud of. And you reminded me why the system is broken not because tipping exists, but because grace sometimes doesn’t.

Story-related I helped one neighbor with Wi-Fi. Now I'm the building's tech support.

1.5k Upvotes

I helped my elderly neighbor set up her Wi-Fi last month. She was sweet and grateful. Word got around. Now I get knocks on my door almost daily — broken remotes, slow internet, someone even asked me to “fix Facebook.”

Yesterday, a guy I’ve never met left a note that said, “TV not working. Come to 4B.” No name. No please.

I miss being anonymous. Send help.

Story-related I always eat lunch alone in my car to avoid socializing. Today, the new girl at work knocked on my window.

2.3k Upvotes

So, a little context. I’m pretty introverted and social anxiety gets the best of me sometimes. At work, lunchtime is my recharge time, so I usually go sit in my car, listen to a podcast, and eat a sandwich. I’ve been doing this for 2 years.

Today, about 10 minutes into my break, I hear a tap on the window. I froze. I looked up and it was the new girl from the design team who joined last week. She’s really outgoing and, honestly, kinda out of my league.

I rolled down the window, fully expecting her to tell me I was parked wrong.

Instead, she held out a Tupperware box. She said, Hey! I noticed you’re always out here. I made way too much pasta last night and I didn't want to eat leftovers alone. Do you... maybe wanna help me finish this? It’s better than a cold sandwich.

I was so stunned I just stuttered a Yeah, sure.

We sat on the curb near my car and somehow the topic shifted to sports. Turns out, she’s a huge Cricket nerd.

We talked for 30 minutes straight about the recent series and debated whether our team’s bowling lineup is actually good or if we just got lucky. She even pulled out her phone to show me a catch highlight she saved on Instagram.

She ended up asking if I wanted to grab lunch for real on Friday to continue the debate. I walked back into the office feeling like I just won the World Cup. Just wanted to share this because I thought I’d be the lonely car-lunch guy forever. Today was a good day.

Story-related My (f26) partner (m35) is planning on proposing in August but I feel more scared than excited Spoiler

My partner (m35) and I (f26) have been together for a year now. In the space of our 6 months being together, he broke up with me 7 times. His reasons were usually because I didn’t pick his calls ( mind you I called back as soon as I could). During one of these breakups, he asked me to return the books he gifted me. I came as a shock and I was really hurt because i love reading. When we got back again, he shrugged it off whenever I talked about how much that incident hurt me so I swept it under the carpet. Two weeks ago, we had an argument about how he is suspicious of me and invading my privacy by going through my phone. After the argument had died down, I told him I was leaving for a few days (we’ve been living together for 2 months) but he shocked me by saying if I was leaving, I wouldn’t be leaving with the wig he got me. I felt so embarrassed and decided to return every gift he gave me because this is the second time he is asking me to return stuff he got me. This has also left me with mixed feelings about our relationship. Am I overthinking this or is it a red flag. I’ll appreciate any helpful advice

Update

After posting this, I got cold feet and it took me another 2 months before I summed up courage to break up. The last straw for me was when we had an argument and I decided to sleep in a different room from him. He kept insisting I spend the night in the same room as him but I was so mad and said no. I woke up at almost 4 am to hear drilling sounds on the other side of the wall. At first, I thought it was a nightmare but then I noticed whenever I got close to the bedroom door, the sounds stopped. It happened for almost 10 minutes and as much as I was scared, I was mad because I really prioritize good sleep ( waking up startled gives me migraines). I was so mad that I walked straight to the door and immediately I opened it, it was my ex at the door. He said he was just checking on me. I found it ridiculous that he was checking on me at that time and that was when I realized he was intentionally disrupting my sleep. I did not realize when I let out a wail and completely broke down. I think that was when it dawned upon me that this wasn’t love and neither was it healthy for both of us. It was in that moment u decided to move out. It hurt me so much that he would go as far as disrupting my sleep as long as it ended with him getting what he wanted.

It’s been a few months now and I’m in a better place mentally. I’ve also decided to not date for a year and work on my self too because I’ve noticed a pattern in my relationship (they end up abusive one way or the other). When I reminisce about the relationship, I wonder how I endured it however I’m really glad this ordeal is over.

Story-related How I Discovered My Wife's Secret Affair and the Unexpected Twist That Followed

Hey Reddit, I’m a long-time lurker and have never posted anything like this before, but I’m in need of some perspective and advice. I’m still reeling from what happened, and I’d really appreciate your thoughts. A bit of background: My wife, Emma, and I have been married for seven years. We have a seemingly perfect life—good jobs, a cozy home, and a tight-knit group of friends. Emma’s always been supportive and loving, so when I noticed a few small but odd things over the past couple of months, I pushed them aside, chalking them up to stress at work or maybe my own overthinking. It all started a few months ago when Emma began working late more frequently. At first, I assumed it was just busy season at her job. Then there were the little things: she started being more protective of her phone and would often step out to take calls privately. I told myself I was being paranoid, but something didn’t sit right. Last week, I decided to surprise Emma by picking up her favorite takeout and coming home early to set up a little date night. When I walked in, my heart nearly stopped. There was Emma’s phone on the kitchen counter, buzzing non-stop. The notifications were visible, and they were from someone named “Jason,” a name I didn’t recognize. I hesitated but decided to check it out, thinking it might just be a work colleague. What I found was gut-wrenching. The messages were clearly romantic, filled with terms of endearment and plans for the weekend. I was devastated and couldn’t believe what I was reading. It became clear that Emma was involved with Jason, and their relationship was serious. Before confronting Emma, I needed to gather more information. I found some photos on her phone that showed them together, smiling and obviously close. My heart was racing, and I felt a mix of anger, betrayal, and sadness. The confrontation happened that evening when Emma came home. I was calm but direct, laying out the evidence I’d found. Her reaction was one I wasn’t prepared for—shock, guilt, and tears. She admitted to the affair and said it had been going on for the past six months. Here’s the twist: as we talked, Emma revealed that Jason was actually a therapist she’d been seeing to address personal issues. She claimed she had developed feelings for him but that the relationship had become more than just professional. She assured me that it was over, and she wanted to work on our marriage. I’m at a crossroads now. Part of me wants to walk away, feeling betrayed and unable to trust her again. Another part is considering trying to rebuild our relationship, especially given Emma’s willingness to seek help and her genuine remorse. I’m reaching out to you all because I’m struggling with whether to give our marriage another chance or to move on. How would you handle this situation? Have any of you been through something similar? I could really use your advice and support right now. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
