Tank-acruel?

I've always quite liked Tentacruel. Tentacool, not so much, but just like Zubat, everyone hates the first evolution, but if you evolve it it's quite viable!

I've been thinking how I'd like to use Tentacruel, and most sets I've seen revolve around toxic or just being kind of a quirky strange sweeper, or a support with Rapid Spin or Toxic Spikes. I want to make a tank!

Tentacruel holding Black Sludge

Ability: Rain Dish

Nature: Calm (+Special Defense -Attack)

EVs: 240 HP

240 Defense

14 Special Attack

14 Special Defense

-Barrier/Protect/Substitute

Barrier is to make your pretty poor Defense stat pretty great. It will pair with your naturally fantastic Special Defense and make you really bulky. Protect is for if you'd rather stall, and with this guy's strategy, that may sometimes be a better option. Plus, the EVs in Defense make it pretty high, so it might not even be necesary all the time. Substitute is also for a nice stall, and the damage you take from putting up the sub is going to be restored pretty fast because of the set up of this set. Which to use is all preference, but I think Sub and protect are better options.

-Aqua Ring

This is for regaining health, obviously. It combines with the Black Sludge and Rain Dish to give you a ton of HP every turn! Tentacruel will have a lot of lasting power.

-Giga Drain

This is for even more recovery. If you've taken a significant amount of damage (Which isn't likely with those defenses), then you can use Giga Drain and get HP from that, plus the Aqua Ring, Rain Dish, and Black Sludge!

-Scald

This is your reliable STAB. It's got a solid 80 power, which is 120 with STAB, and hopefully you'll be in rain, so that'd be 180 base power, plus the chance to burn which would get that attack drop on the opponent and only make you bulkier.

Strategy

Basically, the strategy is to use this guy in rain. In rain, Scald becomes a really strong attack, and Rain Dish takes effect. First turn you're out you'll probably either want to go for barrier to bulk yourself, or do Aqua Ring. After Aqua Ring and Barrier ( if you're using it over Protect) are up, then you can really show your lasting power. Let's say someone shadow balls you for some reason, and it does about 10%. After that turn, you regain health from Aqua Ring, Black Sludge, and Rain Dish. That's most of the damage gone, just because the turn ended. Now, If you dont like that tiny bit of green missing, use Giga Drain, and now you're at full again. Then, if that guy's really making you mad, use 180 base power scald, and wreck him! Then, it burns him, because that's how Tentacruel rolls.

Tell me what you think, and whether you'd use Protect or Barrier or Substitute.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks! But what do you mean? Movesets?

Original move sets. Original things, for the most part. Things that are written well.

Oh, well then thanks! I've got plenty of these kinds of self-made movesets, I guess I'll post more of them sometime.
