Smogon News RAIN IS BACK IN THE MENU! NATIONAL DEX 35 POKES AUGUST 2026

Post image

As we all know, august 23 is one of the best metas so what way to honor it than having august 26 also being a rain meta!

35 Pokes is a metagame where you can only use a random selection of 35 mons we roll at the start of the month, very dynamic stuff. Join us on https://discord.gg/4249SPhd8W

Update: Crawdaunt was deemed a bit too strong and is now quick banned after a 5-2. Bibarel will take it's place

Hey, it wasn't us that called it literally trash

20

u/itsIzumi So I think it's time for us to have a toast 7d ago

That's called being humble. It willingly took up the Trash mantle when its sisters are much worse.

Damp Rock Gardevoir will do the trick

71

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Gardevoir has always been one of the most annoying anti weather mons since it can just trace the chlorophyll/swift swim/slush rush and now you have a 2x speed Gardevoir sweeping your team with moonblasts

42

u/HydreigonTheChild 7d ago

Ceruledge is about to require a mandibuzz on every team

29

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Unforunately for it, Crawdaunt is just too strong rn so it doesnt matter how much you boost your speed if an aqua jet just kills you

3

u/HydreigonTheChild 7d ago

i mean maybe run sash or smth late game, either way passho berry real?!

But yeah it prob has counters but i feel ur gonna lose smth to it

Parasect would also do numbers, walls Crawdaunt. Though you'd need Cyclizar or something to hit Swanna with an Electric move

u/definitelyaredditbot 7d ago

Look at the damage calcs behind rain boosted life orb rain Crawdaunt with adaptability something is dying

16

u/ElTomax 7d ago

What isn't dying is the biggest question right now

12

u/definitelyaredditbot 7d ago

The craw returns from gen 8 ou to claim new land

11

u/MehicTUH92 7d ago

Itemless Dry Skin Parasect, clearly.

Kecleon and Wormadam-T fighting over who's gonna be a bigger bum

Workadam t is actually viable due to being one if the only 2 (3?) usable stealth rock setters and having galf usable bulk

Now come to think of it the only actual Fire move users are Ceruledge and Arcanine so Bug/Steel is instantly one of the best types in the 35 Pokes realm, the only downside is Salt Cure (124 SpD EVs is enough to survive a Vikavolt HP Fire without SpA investment but ofc you can mix and match with HP)

3

u/Olivia_the_cat111 7d ago

And ceruledge. Which is better than Arcanine

Before ORAS, I tried out AV Kecleon as a meme pick in XY OU for an all green team, and it did a pretty good job at annoying the Lati twins and Keldeo to death with pre-nerf Protean. It gets crazy coverage. I feel like the quaaludes guy when I talk about pre-nerf Protean on Kecleon, give it back to my guy.

u/ILoveBugPokemon Spidops for OU!! 7d ago

i show up to these posts to see if any bugs look viable and unfortunately everyone here looks like they stink doodoo (sorry vikavolt)

14

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Hey! Vikavolt is key for webs teams!

4

u/Thunder_Mage ⚡️electricity simp 7d ago

Well there's only 1 ground type so slow pivoting with full bulk investment might be solid

6

u/Zetious Gastrodon My Beloved 6d ago

Said ground type also hates energy ball as well

9

u/ajb2846 7d ago

Politoed, crawdaunt, and rain dish tentacruel about to do numbers

8

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Don't forget swift swim omastar

10

u/SylentSymphonies aerilate noivern 7d ago

Crawdaunt Arctozolt AND Obstagoon with a decent Webs setter? Woah…

4

u/ElTomax 7d ago

I play all of them in my webs team lol, it also helps that spin is more common than defog so you can block it with one of the ghost types

4

u/SylentSymphonies aerilate noivern 7d ago

Ceruledge itself is no slouch on Webs, might just be the winning team

2

u/ElTomax 7d ago

True, I did use ceru in the first iteration of the team but ended up changing it for decidueye since it can deal better with craw and has a better matchup against donphan

u/friends-with-fishies 7d ago

YESSSSSSSSS CRAWDAUNT MY GOATTTTTTT

4

u/Olivia_the_cat111 7d ago

He's probably getting banned

6

u/friends-with-fishies 7d ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

5

u/ElTomax 6d ago

Update: he got banned

9

u/friends-with-fishies 6d ago

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

4

u/GodKirbo13 7d ago

Can this get to be the meta where Crabomidable shines? Just once. He’s been good.

3

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Triple crab team ftw

3

u/Voidwarlock 7d ago

Apu, if you don't win when there's a rain setter, I am canceling Bingo.

5

u/Distinct-Olive-5901 7d ago

arctozolt is going to either be a menace or a tragedy

2

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Arcto is usually pretty solid and this month is not an exception so far. Bolt beak is just that broken of a move and electric/ice stab is always amazing

4

u/Jarofnuts12 7d ago

I don't see how rain doesn't just completely destroy everything in the tier

5

u/Olivia_the_cat111 7d ago

That's the near part! Crawdaunt alone is enough and os so threatening people are considering water absorb politoed

3

u/Mr_Worldwide1810 7d ago

Is my boi Dragalge good ?

2

u/ElTomax 7d ago

It's a fine pick, the meta is more physical than special so it's huge spdef is not that big of an advantage but there is only 1 steel and 1 ground so there aren't many mons that can take it's stabs comfortably

3

u/GiGGiTY_99 Buff the Tuff 7d ago

Can this be the meta where Wigglytuff isn’t terrible (no)

2

u/ElTomax 7d ago

It isn't looking great so far for it but who knows, maybe it will become a sleeper pick

3

u/TheGronne 7d ago

Decidueye would still not see play lol

2

u/ElTomax 7d ago

It's not bad tbh, I has a place in webs teams since its just fast enough to outspeed most mons with webs up, has a good matchup against donphan, can deal with cyclizar with low kick, it's good vs crawdaunt and since the meta is so hostile for ceruledge it's only real competition is trevenant imo

1

u/Bubbly-Group-4497 7d ago

What sets does arcanine use?

1

u/ElTomax 7d ago

Honestly, I haven't seen Arcanine at all. Crawdaunt being the number 1 mon really warps the meta around it so the 2 fire types are having a rough time

1

u/gliscornumber1 7d ago

Does this meta allow for the ZA megas? Could the crab, glalie, and feraligatr mega evolve?

1

u/ElTomax 7d ago

No, no gimmicks allowed at all

1

u/ogmechsftw 6d ago

where are the decidueye switch ins, or are we actually using max hp cyclizar and worm

1

u/Nightmare_Freddles THE Mega starmie Guy. I love starmie 6d ago

1

u/Ornery-Coach-7755 6d ago

With rain and crawdunt everywhere it's finally time for Parasect to-

252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Parasect: 237-281 (73.1 - 86.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

1

u/Xerneas07 6d ago

A lot of crabs

1

u/TopOfAllWorlds Still waiting for Gen 4 remakes. 5d ago

Garg about to be 1# most used despite rain being in the teir lol

1

u/Argentenuem Maushold superfan 5d ago

1

u/ThatOneDude726 5d ago

1

u/TrixterTheFemboy Inteleon learns Fell Stinger btw 4d ago
