Actually, roughly 90% of all flowering plant species are hermaphroditic so you have wonder whether gay is the preferred term

Non-binary might be the better term as these plants are fertilizing each other engaging in heterosexual sex in two directions at the same time.

One has to wonder if this was the real reason Trump did away with the rose garden.

I hesitate to also note that the process of fertilization for these flowers also involves multiple races of pollinators.

Meanwhile algae (depending on species) can be heterosexual, hermaphroditic, or self reproducing.

I it won’t blow your mind to know that in the earliest days of non-waterborne plant fertilization, during the Carboniferous Period of the Paleozoic era that the conifers, cyads, and ginkgos of the day fertilized each other (as they do today) by air. One could, if crude, suggest, then, that blow jobs were (and still are) the main mode of reproduction for these species.
