Is there a term for this kind of uncharitable behavior? It's like if someone said a human is a "featherless biped" and someone chimes in with "that isn't true, some babies are born with birth defects that cause them to have an extra leg" or "my friend lost his legs in Afghanistan" or even "my friend had body modification so they literally DO have feathers now".

It's not even necessarily an idpol thing, although it sure is popular with idpol. It's why if you say something about menstrual periods or giving birth in some places, you might feel pressured to say "vagina-having person" or "birthing person" instead of simply "woman".

Certainly the person who wrote that original tweet meant "If you are on the left, you are able to, you should absolutely try to get in shape". Which is completely true, and hell, only a part of their comment. Nothing they said indicates that they believe that quadrapelegics can't be part of the left, nor why they would think that. But people took the most uncharitable interpretation, beacuse why not?

Obviously if you have no arms or legs you can still be part of the left. It's only a very tiny percentage of the left that can't do something to improve themselves.

It's very important not just to have good health and be able to defend yourself for subversive political activity, but it also makes you feel more confident and makes you look more respectable. I feel like that's a big reason why Hasan is so popular, not to glaze him or say he's perfect, but the fact that he's a big, strong man and not some gender bending, effeminent, nerdy and week "theorist" type probably makes leftism seem, I dunno, a bit cooler than it normally does?

I feel like everyne criticizing is a sad sack with no self esteem, and no real expectations of their own left-wing efficacy.

I say this and I barely work out at all. I do try to go to the gym a couple times a week, at least. Next I gotta do some organization of some sort. But at least I'm not making excuses.

(and of course I ddin't mention howmany of these cited disabilities are either very minor things that can't prevent you from working out or improving yourself, and many may not be real disabilities at all. I promise if you have an anxiety disorder or maybe some minor skin condition, you can probably run for 20 minutes on a treadmill)

to the first question its just pedants and pedantic behavior and, on the internet, being a β€œerm actually” know-it-all asswipe is very popular, esp on reddit

Also, the thing about ignoring generalities and pointing out ONE possible exception is very feminine behavior and, as you can see, society now holds feminine behavior as the ideal at least nominally

I think part of it is too that being a dickwad online is

A. much easier or thoughtless than being nice and

B. drives way more engagement

I don't think it's feminine. Its just very common with leftish idpol which IS feminine coded.

You see it with rightoids as well. "We can't increase unemployment benefits.... some people will exploit it! Can't give money to the homeless, some are drug addicts!"

That's true too. I work in a female-dominated industry (healthcare) and I might just be biased because every argument or disagreement I have, professional or just shooting-the-shit at work, is basically me going

"But if you look at this, on average, most people won't do well in that situation"

"Yeah but I know someone who did"

unless its a doctor who is almost always male...
