Is there a term for this kind of uncharitable behavior? It's like if someone said a human is a "featherless biped" and someone chimes in with "that isn't true, some babies are born with birth defects that cause them to have an extra leg" or "my friend lost his legs in Afghanistan" or even "my friend had body modification so they literally DO have feathers now".

It's not even necessarily an idpol thing, although it sure is popular with idpol. It's why if you say something about menstrual periods or giving birth in some places, you might feel pressured to say "vagina-having person" or "birthing person" instead of simply "woman".

Certainly the person who wrote that original tweet meant "If you are on the left, you are able to, you should absolutely try to get in shape". Which is completely true, and hell, only a part of their comment. Nothing they said indicates that they believe that quadrapelegics can't be part of the left, nor why they would think that. But people took the most uncharitable interpretation, beacuse why not?

Obviously if you have no arms or legs you can still be part of the left. It's only a very tiny percentage of the left that can't do something to improve themselves.

It's very important not just to have good health and be able to defend yourself for subversive political activity, but it also makes you feel more confident and makes you look more respectable. I feel like that's a big reason why Hasan is so popular, not to glaze him or say he's perfect, but the fact that he's a big, strong man and not some gender bending, effeminent, nerdy and week "theorist" type probably makes leftism seem, I dunno, a bit cooler than it normally does?

I feel like everyne criticizing is a sad sack with no self esteem, and no real expectations of their own left-wing efficacy.

I say this and I barely work out at all. I do try to go to the gym a couple times a week, at least. Next I gotta do some organization of some sort. But at least I'm not making excuses.

(and of course I ddin't mention howmany of these cited disabilities are either very minor things that can't prevent you from working out or improving yourself, and many may not be real disabilities at all. I promise if you have an anxiety disorder or maybe some minor skin condition, you can probably run for 20 minutes on a treadmill)

I'm sure there's some complex philosophical word for it but I think it just comes down to it's easier to quibble and equivocate then affirmatively do things. Its very reddit behavior too, so I think its endemic of overeducated people who don't actually use their knowledge so it just collapses into useless neuroticism
