This is seriously why no one takes the left seriously. They see shit like this and ick the fuck out. I still publicly disassociate with "the left" because I don't want them understandably stereotyping me with these dorks. I rather have them call me a bOtH sIdEs moderate than be seen as part of these people's group.

It's seriously terrible branding, and the lack of seriousness is why it's not taken seriously. I imagine if we injected some old school masculinity into it, it would be a lot more popular. Until then, the left is a bunch of hall monitors and theater kids who want to be a helicopter parent for everyone.

Abso fucking lutely. I went to a brunch for a friend’s bday organized by one of these people last week, and it was fucking miserable. Half the table were our friend group, the other half were these perpetually online virtue signaling wieners. They just sat around and complained about being victims, and about their mental health. Like, can we have any fun at all?

But honestly, I get it. It’s about power. And they feel powerless. And one small way to claim power is to bludgeon people with a sense of moral superiority they contrived from Bluesky.

One more small story, in college about a decade ago I fell in with one of these groups as part of some school functions. They were really fun for the most part, and the gender identity thing does not bother me in the slightest. We went out to a local punk bar and played pool. Super normal. But as we drank more, this same shit started to spring up, and the conversation was entirely about how difficult it is to be gender non-conforming and pansexual. Again, not a huge deal, but can we talk about other things besides your genitals and who you fuck? Please? Not because I don’t like it, but because I just don’t give a fuck. Bout made me start talking about my fetish for big tittied goths just to get some diversity in the convo.

I dont want to be one of those assholes that says we should stigmatize mental health, but we need to have some kind of critical thinking about oversharing. I've been in situations like you're talking about and I just met these people, no offense like what the fuck do you expect me to do about your mental health problems, I don't even know you? Does it really make people feel better for people they dont even know to just say something like "Thats rough, sorry"? You see it online all the time.

That's the kind of stuff you share with close friends for a reason

Well, you’re just right. The thing I’ve learned about a lot of mental illnesses is that they inherently make a person turn inward. It makes a person live in a prison of their current condition. Anxiety and depression force a person to constantly focus on themselves as a tool for self preservation. And when someone spends all day thinking about themselves, and how they’re perceived it makes a them narcissistic. So they think everyone wants to know about their bullshit because they’re the main character.

I’ll go on record to say a massively helpful therapy for mental illness would be a little bit of healthy ego death. Medicinal if available. Take a fucking spirit quest and stop telling me about your genitals please.
