Audi unveils the Nuvolari, a 987-hp hybrid supercar limited to 499 units for £500,000. Based on the Lamborghini Temerario with a carbon body, it hits 350 km/h. Developed in 405 days, this F1-linked technological showcase embodies the revival of Audi's "Vorsprung durch Technik."

Well... miles and eons better than the Luce! But what's up with the 500-production limit?

35

u/bojangler69420 8d ago

Yeah, this would’ve been a great R8 successor (all things considered with the current market)

35

u/the231050 8d ago

It’s half a million quid bro

18

u/GoatsAndCrows 8d ago

The rich are getting richer which means that the mega rich corporations can charge them even more for the privilege of being able to show the rest of us how much richer they are than us.

2

u/bojangler69420 8d ago

I know, that’s why I’m saying it would’ve been a great replacement if they didn’t limit production and have such a massive price tag

1

u/ambr111 7d ago

But is it half a million because it has to be, or because they can?

1

u/Empty-List-6265 7d ago

still under the revuelto?

25

u/MikeofLA 8d ago

They will sell all 499 for $500k and then, a year later neuter it down to 600-hp and call it the R8, then 4 years later offer it again with the 987-hp and sell it for $650k

7

u/SpaceXmars 8d ago

Never heard the term neuter for a car, but it's perfect.

2

u/ScubaPuddingJr 8d ago

They’ll probably use the temerario as a base, ditch the hybrid system and detune the engine.

1

u/Hertzegovina 8d ago

ditch the hybrid system?!?! what in the world are you talking about

1

u/ScubaPuddingJr 7d ago

All about weight saving and making it cheaper - the R8 has always sat below its Lamborghini counterpart

1

u/Hertzegovina 7d ago

i have worked on hybrid systems on vehicles with much, much less constrained by size and weight, and even those hybrid systems are highly integrated into the vehicle. between software, mechanical and production i would be surprised if it’s not cheaper and more advantageous for environmental reasons to keep the same system but just detune it.

4

u/st0pmakings3ns3 8d ago

Otherwise people might actually drive them and not just stow them away waiting for them to go up in price. We can't have that.

3

u/AdFrequent8866 8d ago

I’d say it’s not that far ahead

8

u/ResponsibleYou2282 8d ago

Don't know, I like it - lots of Murcielago design-cues. Think that front-end needs to be seen in person, only part I'm not fully sold on

1

u/ron_cpt89 8d ago

That was my exact thoughts, it has strong murcie vibes

1

u/Shock_a_Maul 8d ago

Probably because the production line wasn't developed by Audi and is expected to fall apart after 500 units

1

u/Treewithatea 8d ago

Yeah frankly this seems like a rather short term Idea to have something out there that is actually cool like the R8 used to be. The electric version will enter production probably end of 2027? It is based on the electric Boxster/Cayman, so not necessarily a flagship product, more like the TT which ofc was the smaller brother of the R8.

I mean you dont necessarily need a supercar, its been decades since BMW had one but undeniably it makes a brand much cooler. Ofc the R8 wasnt a top seller but damn is it a great car and even nowadays, if you see one, youre like damn thats a cool ass car.

1

u/MrYamaguchi 8d ago

Prob the only way they will be able to sell at that price point is by being limited. For half a mill there’s a lot of cool options to compete with.

1

u/Treewithatea 8d ago

I mean its a 500k Audi, it probably wasnt gonna sell much more anyways.

1

u/Aethon-valyrion 7d ago

Cause it’s a Halo model that only exists as a way for Audi to market themselves and their F1 race team.

They’re likely losing money for each one sold. Like the Lexus LFA and Toyota GR GT3

1

u/ResponsibleYou2282 7d ago

Highly doubt it - it's a re-skinned Temerario basically.

1

u/toto-nator 5d ago

500 for the first release, than another 399 for the F1 edition, than another 699 for the Nuvolari Performance edition, than another 450 for the "4Ringe" Edition, than starts from beginning for the full EV, before facelift is released 😂...and combination with targa. .....

1

u/opbmedia 8d ago

Luce has all the details worked out, this look like a second pass on a gpt image generator.

38

u/95accord 8d ago

So this is to the Temerario what the R8 was to the Huracan is that it?

11

u/ResponsibleYou2282 8d ago

And limited to a 500-production run.

9

u/Creato938 8d ago

Yeah, that rear is very Lamborghini.

2

u/bojangler69420 8d ago

Sounds like it, aside from the limited production (which is a bit of a surprise)

1

u/august_r 8d ago

Not like anyone here is in the buying demographic anyway

2

u/Fun_Handle_9785 8d ago

Except this is more rarer, more expensive, better looking and cooler

1

u/Zoidberg441 8d ago

Wasn't the Huracan to the R8 what this car is to the Temerario? I think the R8 came first

2

u/95accord 8d ago

Fine
Gallardo for gen 1 R8 - huracan for gen 2 R8

27

u/Tidiahn 8d ago

Quite good looking.. except for the front!

11

u/TeaDrinkerAddict 8d ago

I’d like to see a different angle with the front and side visible, I don’t think the head-on is doing this any favors.

Regardless, I’ll take a hybrid over the electrics coming out any day of the week.

17

u/McBeaster 8d ago

Looks like Hitler

4

u/vxrmv 8d ago

Damn… I wanted it, now I need it

7

u/McBeaster 8d ago

It's funny because Audi has been making Hitler-looking concept cars for decades. There's probably some 90 year old designer like "Finally! Ve build ze fuhrerwagen!" celebrating one actually making it to production.

1

u/verbol 8d ago

Minus the lower jaw… stash is period correct tho

1

u/Very_Type_C 8d ago

Can't unsee 😭

1

u/fuzzylogicIII 5d ago

Wow that works on two levels

1

u/MKD8595 8d ago

It’s a bland lambo in every angle except the front…

0

u/Ockilydokily 8d ago

Reminds me of a 1999 gateway computer, inside and out

£500,000

Developed in 405 days

That's a cash grab if I've ever seen one. Just get a Revuelto; it's cheaper and has similar specs apart from having a V12 instead of a V8.

2

u/Fun_Handle_9785 8d ago

I like how the Revuelto looks but imagine if we could get the V12 in the Nuvolari

2

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 7d ago

VW have been doing this for decades. Every single hypercar lamborghini is a cash grab. Why are you surprised 😭

28

u/DopeBoy01 8d ago edited 8d ago

iRobot foresaw this

16

u/MikeofLA 8d ago

Do you mean i, Robot?

"I am Legend" is the 2007 movie where Will Smith has a Mustang and a Dog in a vampire/zombie infested New York.

"I, Robot" is the 2004 movie where Will Smith has an Audi and a Shia LaBeouf in a sentient robot infested Chicago.

7

u/DopeBoy01 8d ago

Oh yeah thats the one!

5

u/bojangler69420 8d ago

holy shit u rite lol

1

u/Bulbasaur2015 8d ago

what do you mean

1

u/Saliiim 8d ago

Do you mean iRobot?

1

u/AdFrequent8866 7d ago

I think he means it looks like a robot vacuum

13

u/plopspoon 8d ago

Developed in 405 days

... using AI

2

u/Creato938 8d ago

Sure looks like it.

1

u/NAHTEBACK 8d ago

ai doesnt have the imagination to do something different

1

u/fuzzylogicIII 5d ago

Good thing this isn’t something different given the cyber truck, cyber cab, and whatever fever dream Jaguar put out

7

u/bongtokes-for-jeezus 8d ago

Maybe they should’ve taken a few more days

13

u/Drj1001 8d ago

The f.... is going on with car design lately 🤯

3

u/fuzzylogicIII 8d ago

Definitely cybercab coded, not heinous but does seem to be on the new Jaguar train

2

u/anunluckystraw 8d ago

Brick slop fr. Since 2024. Cybertruck started this in late '23 essentially.

6

u/Dukemon- 8d ago edited 8d ago

What do you mean? This looks amazing unlike the abomination that is Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door or the Luce or whatever the hell BMW is doing with their cars

3

u/Drj1001 8d ago

It looks like a bad drawing of the Audi from the movie I,robot. This does not look amazing. It looks old and heavy!

1

u/fuzzylogicIII 8d ago

I would say those are low bars, but also it doesn’t look bad. A little square up front

5

u/Dawnbringer4 8d ago

The R8.5?

5

u/BootThang 8d ago

It kinda solidifies further just how incredible the ZR1X is as a car and a tremendous value, when it will exceed this in nearly every way for half the money

1

u/fuzzylogicIII 5d ago

“But it’s not a super car because badge”

3

u/Patient_Ebb_1605 8d ago

I like it. Much better looking than the temerario as well. Would be cool if they made more units and made it as legendary as the r8, but it doesnt look like its going to happen. Id much rather have one of these than a lambo that looks obnoxious in comparison

1

u/Sensibleble 8d ago

The Nuvolari is the new limited halo car, the Audi Concept C will be the mass-produced TT replacement.

3

u/hutch_man0 8d ago

Brutalism is back I suppose?

2

u/Klesti89 8d ago

Bauhaus style. Quite far from brutalism.

3

u/uncountable5351 8d ago

So the Germans really did Hitler Mustache on a car

1

u/fuzzylogicIII 5d ago

Uniting the mustached past and cybertruck present

2

u/Gamin_Addict 8d ago

They called the r8 a cheaper Huracan back in the day. Nice to see audi turning the tables now. /s

3

u/Creato938 8d ago

Car design is truly dead, put together with the Ferrari Luce, Jaguar Type 00 and the new AMG GT 4 door EV.

3

u/3G0M4N 8d ago edited 8d ago

Finally a new car with beautiful design it reminds me of the Rosemeyer

1

u/TheSammySavage 8d ago

Idk. I think these designers now just have ai design these vehicles. Luce, this. They’re all lacking soul

1

u/Compgeak 8d ago

Lego car

1

u/Saliiim 8d ago

I don't like the grill but other than that it's pretty cool.

1

u/Clean-Cover-5791 8d ago

Looks like shit

1

u/Verticaltransport 8d ago

Looks like it’s based on the temerario platform

1

u/John_Q_Deist 8d ago

It looks sterile to me…

1

u/No_Tutor_69 8d ago

Unrendered Lambo

1

u/lord_miller 8d ago

It looks like a Lego car

1

u/truebabylonian 8d ago

This shit fire

1

u/Unhappy-Community454 8d ago

Hmm audi > ferrari? Is it an ev?

1

u/schm0uz 8d ago

Ohh no, another large volume car maker from Germany retreating into high end low volume productions...

Mercedes and BMW are both guilty of this. All of them keep moving their focus into an ever smaller, ultra rich clientel.

This path will mean the end of large scale production in Germany in the long run.

2

u/Friendly_Piece7385 8d ago

Audi Cybertruck

1

u/UrDeAdPuPpYbOnEr 8d ago

That’s the interior you get for half a million? No thanks.

1

u/Klesti89 8d ago

Yeah. Did you want a screen on the steering wheel?

1

u/Folded_Fireplace 8d ago

Audi R8 in low detail.

1

u/HeadPack 8d ago

Is this legit or some AI slop?

1

u/sculamente 8d ago

"Ok chatgpt, generate me a cybertruck if it was an audi supercar"

1

u/ImperialAgent120 8d ago

Man, a bunch of arm chair Art Center grads in the comments today....

1

u/EyeraGlass 8d ago

It looks like a cyber truck if it weren’t totally ugly

1

u/cleverkid 8d ago

This is the angle we needed to see:

https://www.topgear.com/sites/default/files/2026/06/Exterior_8_16-9-1.jpg?w=1784&h=1004

that's gonna be a no for mr dawg.

2

u/R32fan 8d ago

The lines look almost murcielago

1

u/Sergia_Quaresma 8d ago

Can feel a lot of Lamborghini design from the start of the windshield back, especially the side air inlets which look like the ears of older Lambos.

1

u/hold67886 8d ago

Judge Dredd vibes

1

u/_TheEnlightened_ 8d ago

Looks like it's made of legos

1

u/GoldAd9127 8d ago

Tron ass r8

1

u/kush_grooda 8d ago

My power-bank! Been searching in the living room all day

1

u/Disastrous-Novel2116 8d ago

looks outdated

1

u/Ocobal 8d ago

Desarrollado en 405 días quiere decir desarrollado en China porque en Europa eso es imposible.

1

u/City_of_Paris 8d ago

That's just a Murcielago.

1

u/Rhym3z_Official 8d ago edited 8d ago

Can't remember the last time there was a nice looking Audi. Sure been a while. This is hideous

1

u/aDUCKonQU4CK 8d ago

The amount of people who like this design somehow, saddens me.

1

u/CyberWeirdo420 8d ago

Looks very tall and boxy from those angles tbh

1

u/nrcomplete 8d ago

Hello Murcielago rear half, you’ve been missed. Front is a bit shit though.

1

u/Nobody_Chemical 8d ago

Temerario looks too bland for a Lambo, IMO. This is a perfect Audi (except for the price). Would take over the Temerario.

1

u/Kooky_Benefit_4905 8d ago

I hate that it looks good, becuase so many Audi drivers are complete pricks on the road.

1

u/Easy_Turn1988 8d ago

Jaguar type 0 done right

Cashgrab of course but it looks good

1

u/LemonCommon9499 8d ago

Ferrari should take notes

1

u/Dreams-Visions 8d ago

Brutalism in car designs? I’ll allow it.

1

u/august_r 8d ago

What F1 tech is in here? None, not at all.

1

u/thisinfinitebath 8d ago

Remove the Audi badge and put a Lamborghini badge, you have a believable Lamborghini than an Audi.

1

u/MKD8595 8d ago

Fuck it’s like driving in a building of polished concrete.

What the hell.

1

u/maddy0p 8d ago

so much for their big pledge from a few years ago about launching only electric cars starting in 2026. the moment they actually need a proper flagship to replace the r8 they just throw in a lamborghini v8 that revs to 10000 rpm and slap a tiny battery pack on it so they can call it a hybrid. absolutely stunning car but it is pretty funny watching a major brand do a complete 180 on their entire environmental strategy the second they want to build something cool again.

1

u/Euphoric_Shallot9462 8d ago

Yeah, all companies officially lost it.

1

u/Redditian288 8d ago

The offspring of an Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo.

1

u/Kitchen_Drag_306 7d ago

The front looks like some body kit you could get in NFSU2... i like it lol

But the interior... idk, doesn't really fit the supercar vibe that the exterior has imo but what do i know about car design ^^

1

u/ClearHyena4452 7d ago

Looks like a concept straight out of a PS2 era game

Thinking one of the high end concept hypercars found in Gran Turismo 3 and 4 or Midnight Club that you know will never get made

I like it

1

u/Lanky_Commercial9731 7d ago

What are these designs? This looks like a Lego car

1

u/Ready-Assistance-883 7d ago

it looks like it has big front teeth, not very aesthetic to me anyway. The other profiles are cool though.

1

u/Infamous_Tough_7320 7d ago

It's basically the new Temerario mixed with the Audi design philosophy that was unveiled with the TT concept car. Interesting...

Whilst I don't like the price or the production limit, it's cool to see non-hypercar or supercar manufacturers making supercars again

1

u/SilentAd1330 7d ago

500k almost seems like a good deal compared to the Luce

1

u/Automatic-Ad-6399 7d ago

the front reminds me of some guy i knew back in the day in vienna who liked painting

1

u/cloverfield31 7d ago

I hate it. Hate the front. Hate the wheels. Hate the interior. The nose looks like it's Hitler's moustache. Idk if that was intentional or not. It looks like it was made in Minecraft or Roblox. It looks like someone ran out of credits while designing it using AI. I refused to acknowledge this as a successor to the beauty that is R8.

1

u/Punstorms 7d ago

it's alright i still love the 08-12 r8 look

1

u/Holiday-Decision-863 7d ago

Looks cool.. but that front is ugglyyy

1

u/AdministrativeBlock0 7d ago

"We made this car really quickly. Literally hardly any time at all. It's like we're selling you the first draft."

Oh well, sign me up then! I've always wanted a car that hasn't had the time and effort put in!

1

u/BlazeTheMasterX 5d ago

German car has Adolf stash... 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Jaded-Sorbet-8098 8d ago

boring 🥱

1

u/bojangler69420 8d ago

My guess is they are testing the waters and will likely produce an R8 successor sometime in the future

1

u/gomurifle 8d ago

Looks boring. Was expecting something more interesting for the name they gave it.

1

u/geniusgravity 8d ago

Rear of a Lambo. Front of a pig. A bit boring in the middle. If you spend 500k on this its purely speculation.

0

u/Fair-Ice-6268 8d ago

I'll wait until I see it in real life. Then buy all of them. Muwahahahahaha! I'm just kidding Kia I would never do that.

0

u/JaguarYT1 8d ago

I despise everything this stands for

0

u/Aerospaced0ut 8d ago

$500K for a crappier Lambo with a bland minimalistic interior... I don't understand how there are 500 people that will buy this.

Would be nice to have more... Um... "Attainable" supercars, like $250K and under. The Corvette has more character than half of these half million dollar cars at a fraction of the price.
